Aspen Ladd returned to the win column in emphatic fashion.

Coming off her first professional loss to Germaine de Randamie earlier in the year, Ladd took on Yana Kunitskaya in main card action at UFC DC on Saturday night.

After a back-and-forth first two rounds, Ladd came out with a bang to start the third round as she dropped Kunitskaya with a left hook. She then landed a ton of ground and pound until the referee saw enough and called an end to the fight.

Next up on the UFC DC main card is a women’s bantamweight bout between Aspen Ladd and Yana Kunitskaya.

Round 1: Kunitskaya clinches Ladd up against the fence. However, they are separated by the referee after she grabs the fence for a second time. They clinch up against the fence and reverse each other. Kunitskaya seems to be the stronger fighter here. She lands a number of knees. Ladd lands a takedown and is on top. Ladd lands some big ground and pound before taking her back and landing more strikes. Kunitskaya reverses to end the round.

Round 2: Ladd starts aggressive with her striking. Both fighters continue to strike before Ladd applies a body lock on Kunitskaya. The Russian is able to avoid the takedown and has Ladd clinched up against the fence. Kunitskaya lands knees. Ladd eventually gets out and they strike again. Ladd takes Kunitskaya down again with an inside trip. Ladd lands a couple of ground and pound strikes but nothing that hurts Kunitskaya so far. The round ends with Ladd dominating the last minute and a half.

Round 3: Ladd starts the round by dropping Kunitskaya with a big left hook. She unloads with some ground and pound to get the victory.

Official result: Aspen Ladd defeats Yana Kunitskaya via R3 TKO (0:33).

Next up on the UFC DC main card is another bantamweight bout between Cody Stamann and Song Yadong.

Round 1: A lot of feeling each other out to begin this bout. Yadong is pushing forward with blitzes. He misses with a close spinning wheel kick that gets the crowd’s attention. Stamann times a takedown to perfection but Yadong grabs Stamann’s neck while getting up and seems to be attempting a guillotine. However, he lands an illegal knee on Stamann’s head as the bout is stopped. Yadong is deducted a point. Yadong is more aggressive now. After a lot of distance control, Stamann ends the round with a takedown.

Round 2: Yadong stuffs a takedown. Yadong lands a strong leg kick and pushes forward. Stamann’s nose is bleeding. Stamann sees another takedown attempt stuffed but clinches Yadong on the fence soon after. Yadong reverses and attempts a takedown before Stamann reverses and gets him down. Yadong gets up and they strike for a bit before Stamann gets him down again and is able to keep him down. Yadong reverses and is on top to end the round.

Round 3: Stamann takes Yadong down. Yadong looks for his knee for a submission but fails as Stamann moves to half guard. Yadong tries to scramble but Stamann grabs his back and returns to half guard. Stamann is controlling him more now as he lands some strikes from the top. Yadong looks fatigued as Stamann moves to full mount. Yadong gives up his back as Stamann gets hooks in. Yadong scrambles but Stamann gets full mount again and lands big strikes to end the fight.

Official result: Cody Stamann draws Song Yadong via majority decision (29-28, 28-28, 28-28).

Opening up the UFC DC main card is a bantamweight bout between Rob Font and Ricky Simon.

Round 1: Font kicks things off with a big takedown. Simon gets up and clinches him against the fence. They separate and start unloading on each other. Simon goes for a takedown but it’s stuffed easily. Simon connects with a leg kick. A flurry sees Simon hurt Font and take him down soon after. Font gets up but receives a pair of knees before he’s taken down again. Font gets up and they separate. Font lands some strikes of his own now. Font attempts a spinning elbow but slips and Simon takes him down. They get up again.

Round 2: Simon is backed up and sees his takedown attempt stuffed. Font catches a leg kick from Font. Font catches Simon with a big hook. Font unleashes another brief flurry. Simon shoots soon after but Font gets back to his feet. Font lands another big shot and is clearly having more success in this round. Simon takes Font down soon after and is able to keep him down longer than usual but Font gets up eventually.

Round 3: Font starts with a number of jabs. Font stuffs a takedown attempt. Simon hurts Font with a body shot. Simon takes him down with a big takedown and has side control. Font does well to get up. Font lands a big strike but Simon doesn’t seem affected. Font is dominating the striking with good head movement and some solid strikes.

Official result: Rob Font defeats Ricky Simon via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27).

Tonight (Sat. December 7, 2019) UFC on ESPN 7 (UFC DC) will go down from the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

In the main event of the night, Alistair Overeem will go head-to-head with Jairzinho Rozenstruik. Overeem is one of the most decorated strikers in the history of heavyweight mixed martial arts (MMA). He’ll give Rozenstruik quite the challenge as he attempts to enter the heavyweight elite tonight.

Also, Cynthia Calvillo takes on Marina Rodriguez in the co-main event at women’s strawweight. The Las Vegas-based MMA promotion has compiled a great card for fight fans to enjoy tonight. Check out the UFC DC full fight card, start time, and information on how to watch below.
