Headlining UFC DC earlier tonight (Sat. December 7, 2019) was a heavyweight matchup between Alistair Overeem and Jairzinho Rozenstruik.

Overeem came into the fight on a two-bout win streak, finishing both of his previous opponents via TKO in the first round. “The Demolition Man” is one of the best strikers the heavyweight division has ever seen, and certainly presented Rozenstruik with difficulties matchup-wise.

Rozenstruik, a former professional kickboxer, entered the bout against Overeem undefeated in his mixed martial arts (MMA) career with a 9-0 record. Of all three of his previous appearances inside the Octagon, Rozenstruik was able to finish his opponents via knockout or TKO.

At UFC DC, Overeem and Rozenstruik went into the fifth round after some decent striking. However, when Overeem got tired late in the fifth round, Rozenstruik caught him with a nasty overhand to finish him with seconds left. It was a stunning-last second KO win for Rozenstruik.

Things did not go well for Alistair Overeem at UFC DC last night (Sat. December 7, 2019).

Overeem went five rounds with the undefeated Jairzinho Rozenstruik. Coming into the fight, Rozenstruik was undefeated, winning all his bouts via knockout or TKO. Rozenstruik put up mostly a striking battle with Overeem for nearly 25 minutes. Overeem was looking very tired with seconds left in the fight.

However, when things looked like they were going to the judges’ scorecards, Rozenstruik uncorked a hellacious overhand that stiffened Overeem and dropped him. Although Overeem got up quick, he stumbled badly and the referee stopped the fight. It was a spectacular performance from Rozenstruik.

Shortly after the fight, photos emerged online showing Rozenstruik had actually torn Overeem’s lip in half with the last knockout shot. Check it out here:

Finally, in our UFC DC main event, Alistair Overeem and Jairzinho Rozenstruik go head-to-head at heavyweight.

Round 1:

Overeem with a takedown right into side control. A scramble by Rozenstruik and he gives up his back on his knees before rolling back into side control. Overeem holds position until the round ends.

Round 2:

Overeem continues to pressure Rozenstruik against the cage. Rozenstruik with nice shots to the body inside the clinch. The referee separates the clinch after inactivity. Overeem lands a nice overhand but now Rozenstruik presses forward with a few shots. Overeem lands a jab. Nice shots from Rozenstruik against the cage. Kick to the body from Overeem. The round comes to an end.

Round 3:

Front kick and a right hand lands for Rozenstruik. Overeem shoots in for a takedown and is now leaning on Rozenstruik against the cage. Overeem with a right hand and Rozenstruik responds with a knee that’s just blocked. A nice overhand lands for Overeem. Overeem with a nice takedown but Rozenstruik scoots to the cage. Overeem postures up and lands some nice ground-and-pound. The round comes to an end.

Round 4:

Overeem with another overhand that lands. Another nice straight left hand connects for Overeem. Rozenstruik stuffs an Overeem takedown attempt and unloads a beautiful combination. An uppercut connect for Rozenstruik off an Overeem kick. A flying kick for Rozenstruik connects and he unloads another combination. Another blitz from Rozenstruik ends the round.

Round 5:

A nice uppercut and hook for Rozenstruik. Overeem lands another overhand and clinches Rozenstruik against the cage. They separate, Rozenstruik misses on some shots before stuffing an Overeem takedown attempt. Both men are tired, not much behind their shots, Overeem gets another takedown stuffed. Rozenstruik lands a nice overhand that stiffs Overeem. He shoots back up but stumbles, and the referee calls it off.

Official Result: Jairzinho Rozenstruik def. Alistair Overeem via R5 TKO (punch, 4:56)

Rodriguez catches Calvillo with a right hand and she responds with a leg kick. Calvillo gets a takedown and is into half guard. Rodriguez gets to her feet and rips off a nice combination. Calvillo presses Rodriguez against the cage looking for the takedown. Calvillo with another takedown and right into full mount. The round comes to an end.

Round 2:

Pretty uneventful round so far. Rodriguez gets in a nice knee off a failed Calvillo takedown attempt. Rodriguez lands a nice body kick. More knees and elbows from Rodriguez as Calvillo fails on several takedown attempts. Front kick to the body lands for Calvillo. The round comes to an end.

Round 3:

Calvillo gets the takedown into half guard. Side control for Calvillo. Calvillo takes Rodriguez’s back and unloads with ground-and-pound. Rodriguez is able to get to her feet and she circles out. The fight comes to an end.

Ben Rothwell returned to winning ways in what turned out to be one of the oddest fights in recent memory.

Rothwell took on Stefan Struve in a heavyweight encounter on the main card of UFC DC on Saturday night. The fight would get stopped a total of three times after Rothwell accidentally kicked Struve’s groin twice.

Struve was writhing in pain both times but elected to fight on with Rothwell getting a point deducted after the second groin kick. In the end, it didn’t matter as Rothwell eventually managed to shell up Struve as he landed a barrage of strikes to get the second-round victory.

Next up at UFC DC is a heavyweight bout between Stefan Struve, who is coming out of retirement, to take on Ben Rothwell.

Round 1:

Leg kick from Struve. Rothwell storms in but finds nothing but a front kick to the body. Struve puts together a nice combination and Rothwell clinches up. They separate and Struve lands a nice kick to the head. A low blow from Rothwell stops the action. He’s in a ton of pain. Rothwell lands a nice combination and unloads against the Octagon as he clinches up. The round comes to an end.

Round 2:

Struve with a nice pair of uppercuts and Rothwell responds with a lead hook. Rothwell punches his way inside and clinches against the cage. Struve gets caught with an overhand off a kick but fires back with a jab. Rothwell against clinches up against the cage. Struve gets away after some knees to the body, and lands another head kick. Rothwell again nails Struve with a low blow, and he’s down in a ton of pain.

The referee takes a point and after a few minutes the fight resumes. Rothwell blitzes with a ton of shots but Struve circles out after a clinch. Rothwell with some nice shots on Struve now against the cage and he drops. Rothwell pours it on and gets the finish.
