Heavyweight prospect Derrick Lewis fought what may be the toughest test of his career when he battled former title challenger Gabriel Gonzaga in the co-main event of today’s (Sun., April 10, 2016) UFC Fight Night 86 from the Zagreb Arena in Zagreb, Croatia.

The fight started with a big head kick from Lewis that partially landed, and he fended off the following takedown attempt from Gonzaga. Another takedown attempt was successful, however.

Gonzaga looked to smother Lewis on the mat in side control as he bled from his nose. He nearly mounted Lewis and then took his back, scoring some hard punches. Lewis got back up and landed an elbow and a knee to the midsection. Elbows and punches rained down from Lewis as Gonzaga attempted another takedown. The action slowed in the clinch as Gonzaga looked for a trip and the ref restarted the action.

Lewis unloaded a vicious combination that got the frightening swift finish.

Heavyweight prospect Francis Ngannou met late replacement Curtis Blaydes on the main card of today’s (Sun., April 10, 2016) UFC Fight Night 86 from the Zagreb Arena in Zagreb, Croatia.

Making his UFC debut, Blaydes came out with a stiff punch that seemed to momentarily stun Ngannou. He went for a takedown but Ngannou defended it well, landing a decent knee in the clinch. The fighters felt each other out until Ngannou landed a hard straight left that wobbled Blaydes.

A big counter from Ngannou then seemed to rock Blaydes again, but he went to his wrestling in order to recover. “Razor” got a big takedown and looked to ground Ngannou with strikes, but “Predator” got back up to land a strong combination. He added another hard left as the bell sounded on the first.

Blaydes landed another jab to start the second, adding another that was harder. Ngannou then scored with a strong two-punch combo, and the two exchanged hard shots. Blaydes’ right eye was bloodied as he slipped and ate a straight punch. Blaydes got another takedown and side control, but Ngannou got up to take his back in a standing clinch.

Strikes landed from Ngannou and a jab from Blaydes. Ngannou scored with his straight and a big inside low kick, and he fended off a takedown attempt before eating a glancing knee as the second round came to a close.

The cageside doctor then looked at Blaydes’ eye in between the second and third, and decided to call it off to give Ngannou the TKO win.

UFC Fight Night 86 is here, and it goes down today from the Zagreb, Croatia at the Zagreb Arena. The preliminary card will begin on UFC Fight Pass with three fights at 10:30 a.m. ET/7:30 a.m. PT and the final four preliminary bouts will be shown on FS1 at 12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PT. The main card will begin at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT.

The event will be headlined by a heavyweight clash between Ben Rothwell and Junior dos Santos. Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Derrick Lewis will meet in the co-main event. Six bouts will be featured on the main card.
