Coming off of his split decision loss to Daniel Cormier at UFC 192 for the 205-pound strap, two time light heavyweight title challenger Alexander Gustafsson made his long-awaited Octagon return tonight (September 3, 2016) at UFC Fight Night 93, when he took on his Polish counterpart Jan Blachowicz.

In the opening moments of the first round it seemed as if Blachowicz may have had the Swede’s number in the stand-up department, however, ‘The Mauler’ quickly took the contest to the ground and implemented a strong top game.

The second round was no different, as Gustafsson once again took the fight to the ground in order to display a dominant top game in which he cut Blachowicz on the top of the head with some nasty ground-and-pound.

Gustafsson would seal the deal en-route to a unanimous decision victory over Blachowicz, with another takedown in the third round as he would hold down the ‘Prince of Cieszyn’ until the final horn of the contest.

Check out the video highlights of Gustafsson’s wrestling-based win starting at the 1:20 mark of his post-fight interview right here:

Heavyweight veterans Josh Barnett and Andrei Arlovski put on a rousingĀ back-and-forth battle in the main event of today’sĀ (Sat., September 3, 2016) UFC Fight Night 93 from the Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg, Germany, where both fighters took turns rocking each other that resulted in riveting shifts of momentum.

The first 30 seconds of the fight was especially exciting, as each man not only rocked the other with a big punch, but was also felled by a shot from the other man, causing an air of electricity to course throughout the German crowd. The bout became a grueling affair from there, with each former champion struggling for an advantage in the clinch.

It appeared Barnett would end the bout with his massive arsenal of submissions on more than one occasion, and he very nearly did so with ground and pound from the mount as well. But “The Pitbull” was also able to weather the storm to blast “The Warmaster” with a couple combos that nearly ended the match. It was there that Barnett was momentarily hurt by an inadvertent eye poke that referee Leon Edward failed to notice.

Ultimately Barnett survived and locked up the victory with a rear-naked choke in one of the best heavyweight battles in recent memory. Watch the highlights of “The Warmaster’s” big comeback win starting at the 0:57 mark of his post-fight interview below:

UFC Fight Night 93 has wrapped up from Hamburg, Germany today (September 3, 2016) and one of the most vicious knockouts of the night came at the hands of Ryan ‘Darth’ Bader.

During his scheduled three round contest with No. 12-ranked Illir Latifi, Bader delivered a nasty knee to the Swede’s skull in the second round that sent him out like a light. Bader was awarded ‘Performance of the Night’ along with $50,000 for his efforts.

In our main event two former UFC heavyweight champions Josh Barnett and Andrei Arlovski would collide in a massive contest for the big boys’ division. The two men opened up the fight by dropping one another in a crazy round that brought back memories of Arlovski’s collision with Travis Browne at UFC 187.

Two rounds later Barnett would lock in a rear-naked choke and force ‘The Pitbull’ to tap out, giving ‘The Warmaster’ the submission victory.

Both men were awarded ‘Fight of the Night’ honors and will each take home $50,000 for the slugfest, however, Barnett will take home an extra loaf of $50,000 as he was awarded ‘Performance of the Night’ as well.

Two former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight title holders went toe-to-toe in the main event of UFC Fight Night 93. The battle tested warriors sharing the Octagon were Andrei Arlovski (25-13, 1 NC) and Josh Barnett (35-8).

“The Warmaster” survived a missed eye poke and went on to submit “The Pit Bull” in the third round.

Early in the first round, Arlovski was wobbled momentarily with a short punch. Arlovski returned the favor by stunning Barnett with a right hand. “The Pit Bull” was hit and once again lost his balance briefly. The two fought for a dominant position against the fence. Blood trickled from the forehead of Arlovski. “The Warmaster” landed a knee to the body. Arlovski earned a trip takedown. The two were stood back up. Arlvoski landed a right hand and a combination, but Barnett pushed his opponent against the fence. The round ended with Barnett attempting a takedown.

At the start of the second round, Barnett threw an overhand right. He pressed “The Pit Bull” against the cage. Arlovski reversed the position, but a lack of action caused a separation. The two exchanged punches and Arlovski landed a right hand. Barnett connected with a jab and sent his opponent against the fence again. Arlovski escaped and was hit with a jab before finding his back against the cage again. Arlovski tripped his opponent, but was reversed on the ground. Barnett moved to full mount. He postured up and rained down punches. Arlovski survived the round.

The two heavyweights met at the center of the Octagon for the third frame. A right hand from Arlovski had Barnett backing up. A hard uppercut in the clinch landed for Barnett. Barnett held onto his eye and believed it was a poke, but Arlovski moved forward. Barnett reversed a takedown attempt and went for a kimura. Commentator Dan Hardy confirmed Arlovski unintentionally thumbed Barnett in the eye and referee Leon Roberts missed it. “The Warmaster” had Arlovski’s back and earned a submission from a rear-naked choke.
