Going into his co-main event bout against Jan Blachowicz (19-6) at UFC Fight Night 93, Alexander Gustafsson (17-4) lost three of his last four bouts. In most cases that would spell doom for a fighter, but “The Mauler” came up short against three of the best 205-pounders in the world.

On this night (Sept. 3, 2016) in Hamburg, Germany Gustafsson earned his first win since March 2014.

Gustafsson landed a low kick and Blachowicz went for an overhand right. A right hand connected for Blachowicz. An overhand left found the mark for “The Mauler.” The Polish bruiser escaped the clinch of Gustafsson. The Swedish fighter once again went for a clinch and pressed his opponent against the fence.

They separated and Blachowicz landed a knee to the body and an uppercut. Gustafsson kept finding himself on the wrong end of one-two combinations. “The Mauler” took his opponent down. Blachowicz went for an armbar, but it was stuffed. An elbow connected for the former title contender. The horn sounded with Gustafsson in top control.

Blachowicz wasted little time landing a right hand. The two exchanged and Gustafsson landed a hook of his own. “The Mauler” earned a double leg takedown. Blood trickled down the head of Blachowicz thanks to some elbows. Gustafsson kept raining down elbows and Blachowicz couldn’t find a way to stand back up. The Polish fighter went for an armbar, but he couldn’t get it. The second stanza ended with Gustafsson on top.

Immediately, Blachowicz tried to get something going in the final round. A right hand landed for “The Mauler.” Blachowicz pushed forward and landed a right hand. Gustafsson decided he had enough of the stand up and scored another takedown. Gustafsson postured up and landed a right hand. He went to pass guard, but couldn’t do so. Referee Marc Goddard stood both men back up, but “The Mauler” quickly earned a single leg takedown. Swelling formed on Blachowicz’s face. The final horn sounded and the result was a no-brainer.

Final Result: Alexander Gustafsson def. Jan Blachowicz via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

“Darth” earned the sixth win in his last seven fights in a way that left the crowd in Hamburg, Germany speechless.

Bader moved in and defended Latifi’s takedown attempt. “Darth” landed a jab as Latifi was moving forward. Another takedown attempt was thwarted by Bader. A body kick connected for Bader. “The Sledgehammer” caught the leg of Bader and went for some strikes, but his opponent got out of harm’s way. Latifi whiffed a huge hook. Latifi moved forward and dropped Bader with a right hook. “Darth” returned to his feet before the round ended.

The second round began and Bader landed a stiff jab. Bader went for a takedown, but it was stuffed. Bader ate a right hand as he got back to his feet. Bader landed a right hand as Latifi went for a clinch. Bader knocked Latifi out cold with a devastating knee as his opponent went for a level change.

In the end, it was “Sergeant” who walked out of the Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg, Germany with a win.

The bout was a bit of a feeling out process early on. Bang landed a leg kick about a minute in. Both fighters missed high kicks. Hein landed a left hook. Bang moved forward with strikes. Hein brought his opponent down and was in half guard. “The Supernatural” returned to his feet. Bang missed a hook. Hein had his high kick blocked as the round ended.

Bang landed a body kick early in the second round. Hein grabbed a body lock and looked to bring his opponent to the canvas. Bang was able to break free. A short right hand clipped Hein and had him slightly off balance. “Sergeant” got a quick takedown, but Bang reversed and did a judo throw. Bang connected with a body kick as Hein went for a hook to end the second stanza.

The two were active right away in the final frame. Bang was getting the better of the exchange early. Bang landed a body kick counter. A left hook caught Hein coming in. Time was called to check on a cut on the eye of Bang caused by an unintentional headbutt. The fight resumed quickly. “The Supernatural” and “Sergeant” traded shots. Hein staggered Bang momentarily. Hein ducked under a hook and got a trip briefly, but Bang stood on his feet. A left hand landed for Hein. Bang was countered by a left hand and the final horn sounded.

All three judges gave the fight to Hein.

Final Result: Nick Hein def. Tae Hyun Bang via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-28, 30-27)
