Gegard Mousasi will get his chance at redemption this weekend (Saturday November 19, 2016) in Belfast when he takes on Uriah Hall in the main event of the evening, as ‘Primetime’ handed the Dutchman his only loss on his record in his last six fights.

Hall finished Mousasi in the second round of their UFC Fight Night 75 contest in Japan last year with a highlight reel jumping spinning back kick, followed by a flying knee and some strikes for good measure. Mousasi has since called the loss a fluke and is eager to get back in the cage with the former Ultimate Fighter finalist to prove so.

Mousasi recently spoke with FOX Sports to discuss the upcoming rematch, giving all props due to Hall for finishing him their first time out, but admits he is seeking revenge:

“He won fair and square. I’m not going to take anything away from him. I respect him for giving me the rematch. It’s a fight, anything can happen. Anything can happen in this fight, but I’m not going to go be too aggressive, over committing, I believe nothing will go wrong this time. I have something to put straight,” Mousasi said. “Not so much against Uriah Hall but you have people who are sitting and just waiting for you to fail so they can have a laugh. So it’s more to set straight something with the idiots who don’t know anything about the sport.

“I’ve got nothing against him. He’s probably a nice guy but I want my revenge. It’s more personal but not against Uriah Hall. It’s against people that thought that he’s the better fighter.”

While Mousasi doesn’t believe he has anything to gain with a potential win over Hall, he admits the contest is a little more personal than anything as he believes he could be fighting for the title straight away rather than sharing the Octagon with ‘Primetime’:

“It’s something more personal. I’ve got nothing to gain, it’s a risky fight for me actually because I’m fighting Uriah Hall,” Mousasi said. “I could go fight somebody in the top four and go fight for the title right away. So I’m going to take two fights to get to a title shot instead of one guy to get to a title shot. It’s more taking an extra risk just to get even.

“I have to put this right and make everyone know that I’m coming for the title. I’m almost there.”

Gegard Mousasi-Vitor BelfortMousasi would like to finish the contest with a knockout of his own, however, if the contest does find its way into the championship rounds, the former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion believes that he will carry the advantage after 15 minutes:

“Hopefully a knockout, that’s always more impressive than a decision,” Mousasi said. “He’s tough to submit, he doesn’t give up, but I feel like I will easily dominate and take positions.

“I’m going to take my time. I don’t believe it’s going to go three rounds, but if it goes five rounds, I don’t believe he’s going to look so good. I’m in the mood to fight. I’m in the mood to put my punches in his face.”

‘The Dreamcatcher’ has embarked on a three-fight winning streak since his loss to Hall, earning victories over the likes of Thales Leites, Thiago Santos, and most recently Vitor Belfort. With his second round finish of Belfort last month, Mousasi has been making his claim for a chance at the 185-pound title that is currently held by Michael ‘The Count’ Bisping, but it seems he’ll be looking to extract revenge from Hall in Belfast first.

Mousasi and Hall will meet in the main event of UFC Fight Night 99 live on UFC Fight Pass, from The SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland this Saturday night (November 19, 2016).

Former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez has already criticized himself quite a bit for his title losing performance against Conor McGregor at this past weekend’s (Nov. 12, 2016) UFC 205 from New York City, and now he’s hearing it from a fellow 155 pounder.

Kevin Lee, who meets Magomed Mustafaev at this weekend’s UFC Fight Night 99 from Belfast, recently told MMAJunkie that Alvarez ‘embarrassed’ the whole division with his performance against the “Notorious” one:

“It’s definitely frustrating,” Lee said. “I was frustrated as hell the night of the fight. Eddie embarrassed the entire division. I don’t understand why he could come out with a game plan like that. Conor’s shown that he don’t get emotional in there. He makes these guys get emotional and I don’t understand, it’s not an emotional game.

“You can’t get sucked into that. To lead with a power strike every time against – Conor’s got great timing, he’s got great movement. You got to come up with a good game plan to beat him and Eddie just embarrassed the entire division.”

After being dropped multiple times in the first round, Alvarez ended up falling in the second at the hands of a brutal combination from McGregor. “The Underground King” admitted in the aftermath of the bout that he strayed away from his game plan.

Continuing on, Lee said that Alvarez fought like an ‘idiot’, and that if ever saw the ex-champion he would ‘slap the hell out of him’:

“I was embarrassed for him,” Lee said. “If I ever see Eddie I’ll slap the hell out of him. It was embarrassing and it embarrassed us all. I’m 100 percent confident I’m going to get that chance. We’re just bigger men up here. (McGregor) ran into a good one in Eddie. Eddie came out like an idiot. He’s supposed to fight good against guys like that.”

What do you make of Lee’s comments?

Dan Hardy, John Gooden, Brad Pickett and Nick Peet offer up their insight into the main event at UFC Fight Night 99 between Gegard Mousasi and Uriah Hall.

The contest is a rematch of an encounter won by Hall via knockout.

Saturday’s card airs entirely on UFC Fight Pass from Northern Ireland.

UFC Fight Night 99, Bellator 165 and UFC Fight Night 100 will all take place this Saturday on either digital stream or “free” television.

That means 30-plus bouts in all of live action, including a lightweight title fight featuring Michael Chandler and Benson Henderson.

Things kickoff early Saturday with an all-UFC Fight Pass card from Northern Ireland with Gegard Mousasi meeting Uriah Hall in the main event. The middleweights have history, as Hall stunned Mousasi back in 2015, earning his biggest win to date.

Ross Pearson, one of the toughest veterans in the sport, is also slated for action, as he takes on Stevie Ray, while heavyweights Timothy Johnson and Alexander Volkov and Artem Lobov and Teruto Ishihara round out the main card.

On the prelims, flyweights Ian McCall and Neil Seery should put on quite the show, while fellwo 125-pound fighters Kyoji Horiguchi and Ali Bagautinov are also set to collide. Two female fights – Anna Elmose vs. Amanda Cooper and Marion Reneau vs. Milana Dudieva – should provide a jolt of energy early in the card.

Mark Godbeer and Brett Johns are not as well known in the U.S. as they are over in Europe, but that could change soon. Godbeer, a heavyweight, meets Justin Ledet, while Johns takes on Kwan Ho Kwak at bantamweight.

Bellator 165 is all about Chandler and Henderson. The promotion is putting a lot of work into the card, hyping Chandler as the man to submit Eddie Alvarez, while Henderson owns wins over UFC fighters Nate Diaz, Donald Cerrone and Frankie Edgar.

But that isn’t all from the SAP Center in San Jose, as Michael Page puts his rising star status on the line vs. veteran Fernando Gonzalez and Keri Melendez – the wife of Gilbert Melendez – makes her MMA debut after a career in kickboxing.

If all goes as planned, the prelims will see Kevin Ferguson Jr., the son of the late Kimbo Slice, finally compete. His previous bouts have been cancelled due to issues with the opponent. Ferguson is set to face Aaron Hamilton at welterweight.

The UFC Fight Night 100 card from Brazil presents a solid rematch in the main event, as Ryan Bader battles Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Bader won the first encounter, and you can bet the Brazilian Nogueira wants redemption.

We also get Thomas Almeida, who is coming off his first career loss to Cody Garbrandt, against unbeaten Albert Morales and former title contender Claudia Gadelha returning to take on Cortney Casey.

Justin Scoggins-Pedro Munhoz at bantamweight is interesting, as Scoggins was on the verge of being a contender at flyweight before issues with his weight prompted the move to 135 pounds.
