Jose Aldo reveals a text exchange with UFC leader Dana White saved his son’s life

Jose Aldo

In a true twist of fate, Jose Aldo‘s release from the UFC may have saved the life of his unborn child.

Widely regarded as the best featherweight fighter in the history of mixed martial arts, Jose Aldo decided it was time to move on from the UFC after more than a decade with the promotion. With one fight left on his contract, ‘Junior’ drafted a message to UFC president Dana White, asking for his release from the organization which was ultimately granted without issue. However, the story doesn’t end there.

During an appearance on MMA Fighting’s Portuguese-language podcast Trocação Franca, Jose Aldo revealed that his text exchange with Dana White that day may have saved the life of Jose Aldo III.

“A friend of mine was looking into some boxing things for me and said I needed to prepare a statement saying he could consult the UFC,” Aldo said. “I did that and texted Dana on Thursday, and Dana wrote me back thanking me for everything, saying the UFC was always open for me, the [Performance Institute], and everything I needed. He has great affection for me and my family, he was always very close to us.

“After that emotional message – it wasn’t a boss talking to his employee, it was two people that like each other – I showed it to [my wife] Vivianne. She was still pregnant at the time and got emotional, her blood pressure went up and we had to go to the hospital. She [went back for some tests and] was admitted to the hospital on Friday. She had preeclampsia and [the blood pressure] went up after Dana’s message.”

At just 36 weeks, doctors made the difficult call to deliver Jose Aldo III under less-than-ideal circumstances.

“The actual birth was really crazy,” Aldo said. “It looked like everything would go wrong. He was born with a true knot [in his umbilical cord], and if we had waited two more weeks, I wouldn’t be at home with little Aldo here.”

Jose Aldo reveals his contract with the UFC is still valid

During the conversation, Aldo revealed that he was not granted his outright release from the promotion. With one fight remaining on his deal, Aldo is still under contract, but is cleared to compete elsewhere should he choose to do so.

“I can compete in any organization in jiu-jitsu, boxing, anything. I’ll show the offer to the UFC and they will clear me,” Aldo said. “My contract is still valid, mainly because people talk badly about the UFC and they have to be cautious. I understand their side. I will never fight the UFC or anything like that, they made me who I am. If I’m famous and am who I am, that was because of the UFC. Thanks to my work, but together with the UFC. I still have a contract with the UFC and any fight I want to do, I’ll show it to them and they will clear it.”

As for his thoughts on Dana White, Aldo says that he will never stand against the UFC president.

“I will never stand against someone like that,” Aldo said, referring to White. “Even unintentionally, he’s always helped me in my life. I get emotional talking about it. Not that I owe him my son’s life, but it was after his message that got Vivianne emotional, her blood pressure going up, and we taking her to the hospital. He was born with all odds against him, but thanks to Dana… God always puts good people in our lives to help us.”

Colby Covington

UFC welterweight Colby Covington has made a name for himself with his radical views and overwhelming support for former President of the United States, Donald Trump.

Recently, Covington found himself amongst some of the biggest names in entertainment at the premiere of Candace Owens’ BLM documentary titled The Greatest Lie Ever Sold: George Floyd and the Rise of BLM. Whether you find Covington’s hot-takes refreshing, infuriating, or downright comical, it’s clear that ‘Chaos’ has gotten the attention of fellow conservatives.

Covington shared an image of himself on Instagram alongside famed rapper Kanye West, Candance Owens, and Ray J at the event.

“Paying my last respects to #BLM. They had a good run of scamming innocent Americans, but (Candace Owens) just buried them 12 feet deep with her new documentary The Greatest Lie Ever Sold!!!! Check it out on DailyWire+”

The official synopsis for Owen’s documentary reads:

“On the 2-year anniversary of George Floyd’s death, Candace revisits Minneapolis and the violent racially divided aftermath that fueled BLM’s global rise and filled its coffers.” It should be noted that in the film, Owens targets BLM the group and not specifically the Black Lives Matter movement.

Colby Covington Nearing a Return to the Octagon?

The last time we saw Colby Covington inside the Octagon was in a main event grudge match with a former friend turned bitter rival Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272. ‘Chaos’ scored a unanimous decision win, seemingly putting an end to the heated rivalry, but ‘Gamebred’ was far from down with Covington. Weeks later, Masvidal would allegedly attack Covington outside of a Miami steakhouse, leaving ‘Chaos’ with a fractured tooth and a wrist abrasion. Masvidal was charged with second-degree felony aggravated battery and criminal mischief and is currently awaiting trial tentatively scheduled for December 5th.

Reports indicated that Covington’s return to the Octagon had been delayed due to injuries sustained in the attack that was more severe than previously reported. However, UFC President Dana White dismissed that claim, revealing that Colby Covington was ready to go and they were simply in the process of working out who would be next for the former interim welterweight champion. Enter Khamzat Chimaev.

Following his failed weigh-in for a welterweight main event at UFC 279, it appeared that Chimaev was on his way to the middleweight division. Even ‘Borz’ teased the move on Twitter, posting an image of himself with the caption “185.” Five days later, Chimaev indicated that Colby Covington was the next man to meet him inside the Octagon. This is yet to be confirmed, but this is truly the case, does that mean the UFC is going to allow Chimaev the chance to make the 170-pound limit once again, or will Covington be moving up after two failed attempts to capture the welterweight championship? Only time will tell.

UFC alum Luke Rockhold reflects on his career as a model: ‘People just hated me even more’

Luke Rockhold

Former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold ended his UFC career the way he started it, on his own terms.

Rockhold returned to the Octagon at UFC 278 in August after nearly three years old the shelf. In his long-awaited return, the former UFC and Strikeforce champion faced top-ranked middleweight contender Paulo Costa. After months of back-and-forth between the two, their clash inside the cage did not disappoint. The two warriors delivered a fight equally bizarre as it was brutal. By the end, even fans were feeling the exhaustion that the two exhibited inside the Octagon.

Following the fight, UFC President Dana White showed respect for Luke Rockhold, saying that he will “never say anything” negative about the 37-year-old scrapper ever again.

During an interview with MMA Junkie, Rockhold shared his appreciation for the respect Dana White finally showed him after years of tension between the two.

“It definitely felt good to get that respect I felt I always deserved, but I guess you’ve got to get dirty and nasty sometimes to show people who the f*ck you are,” Rockhold said. “People want to assume I’m this, people want to assume I’m that. I’m sure the Polo [modeling] deal didn’t help — people just hated me even more. But that was the thing with Dana in the first place. He disrespected me when I lost the title and said, ‘You ain’t sh*t. You weren’t this, you weren’t that.’ I’m like, ‘F*ck you, dude. I’ll go make my money elsewhere.’

Luke Rockhold Went From UFC Champion to Globally Recognized Fashion Model

Challenged by UFC President Dana White to look for other sources of revenue, Luke Rockhold did exactly that, becoming the face of the popular clothing line Polo Ralph Lauren.

“He’s like, ‘F*ck, fine, go do it,’ and guess what? I became the face of Polo Ralph Lauren, I had a worldwide commercial, I had [my face in] every airport in the world, and then Dana and the UFC were like, ‘Oh, can we give you this? Can we give you that?’ I did it so I could have leverage and respect. That’s why I did that. That was the whole point of that situation, and I got some back. But then I got a lot of disrespect from it because the whole world is just naive and they paint the picture for what they want the world to believe.”

Walking away from the Octagon following his loss at UFC 278, Luke Rockhold finishes his mixed martial arts career with a record of 16-6-0 with notable wins over Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza, Michael Bisping, Lyoto Machida, and Chris Weidman. Rockhold dropped four of his last five bouts but did leave the door open for a potential return to combat sports should something enticing come along.

Uriah Hall slams UFC over infamous fighter pay issue: ‘Ring card girls are making $70,000, it’s f*cking ridiculous’

Uriah Hall

Ultimate Fighter alumni Uriah Hall joined the laundry list of fighters past and present to call out the UFC on the subject of fighter pay.

In August, Uriah Hall retired from active competition after more than 10 years with the organization. Originally debuting in the 17th. season of The Ultimate Fighter, Hall was quickly regarded as one of the top middleweight prospects in the world. After falling short against Kelvin Gastelum in the TUF tournament final, Uriah Hall never quite lived up to the hype he had built on the long-running reality show.

Walking away from the Octagon, ‘Primetime’ will now give it a go in the squared circle. On October 29th, Uriah Hall will make his boxing debut, taking on NFL running back Le’Veon Bell on the undercard of the Showtime Boxing pay-per-view headlined by social media star Jake Paul and UFC legend Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silva.

During a virtual media day appearance to promote the event, Uriah Hall was asked about his views on the heavily debated subject of fighter pay. Uriah Hall credited the UFC for giving him the chance to make a career in MMA but was more than willing to call out the promotion for its less savory treatment of certain fighters.

“Listen, the UFC opened my career and extended my career. I made a great deal and everybody’s contract is different. There’s a lot of things that aren’t fair. I don’t think certain things are fair to athletes and for [Jake Paul] to speak out on that, kudos to him but is anything done yet? Nope. How far can we take it?

“You don’t have to go too much into details but I know people that are making [$10,000 to show, $10,000 to win], which is ridiculous,” he continued. “Cause you’re going out there and fighting and you’re putting your brain cells on the line and f*cking ring card girls are making $70,000, which is utterly f*cking ridiculous. So yeah, there’s some sh*t that’s just not going down but compared to this it’s okay. You know your worth as you get older in your career, I think, especially when you put a lot on the line for it and some people feel like they deserve more. At one point, I felt like I deserved more and I had to fight for that.”

Uriah Hall calls the UFC a ‘monopoly’

Fighter pay has been an issue raging for seemingly years with many combat sports athletes, past and present giving their take on the UFC’s treatment of athletes. Perhaps the most public example was the UFC’s ongoing feud with reigning heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. Following his heavyweight title win at UFC 260, ‘The Predator’ was open about his displeasure with his existing contract. As a result, Ngannou sat for 10 months before finally stepping back into the Octagon to defend his title for the first time, and potentially the last.

“As much as the UFC will give you an opportunity, what I learned from that is it’s like a monopoly,” Hall said. “They pick and choose. It’s like who can we take? For certain people that they don’t want to take, they slowly dismiss them. It’s business at the end of the day. Same thing in this sport. It’s business.

“Yeah Jake might say all that sh*t but it’s just to stir up Dana [White],” he added. “Is he doing it because he really cares or is he doing it because of the media? I don’t f*king know. But it’s business and that’s why a lot of these guys talk about money first and everyone’s going to listen. But it’s business.”

Ngannou has been on the shelf recovering from knee surgery since his win over Ciryl Gane in January, but rumors are circulating that he may come back to the UFC with a new deal and a date with former light heavyweight great Jon Jones in the first quarter of 2023.
