Khamzat Chimaev

MMA manager Ali Abdelaziz says his client and rising UFC star Khamzat Chimaev would beat former dual-weight champion Conor McGregor so bad the Irishman would end up in a wheelchair and in need of medical assistance for the rest of his life.

Ali Abdelaziz’s comments come after Chimaev stretched his undefeated record to 9-0 at UFC Vegas 11 this past weekend. The 26-year-old needed just 17 seconds and one punch to flatten long-time UFC middleweight Gerald Meerschaert.

Chimaev was lined up to face Demian Maia next but UFC president said the Swedish fight may take another bout before that. Abdelaziz was quick to rule out McGregor who he believes would come to serious harm if he stepped into the Octagon with Chimaev

“Khamzat would put Conor McGregor in a wheelchair, and he would drink from a straw for the rest of his life,” Abdelaziz told TMZ Sports.

“I’m not looking for Khamzat to fight a mentally unstable fighter. Conor McGregor is mentally unstable. I wish him the best of luck. Khamzat would kill him. He would really kill him.”

So who’s next for the UFC prospect? Who knows, but according to Abdelaziz even the best guys wouldn’t stand a chance against his man.

“Nate Diaz, (Jorge) Masvidal, some of these guys, I think he’d mop the floor with them too. I think he’ll beat the shit out of these guys. These guys are a little bit older, they’re veterans, they’re great fighters, but I think they’re levels to this.”

Johnny Walker is only targeting the top of the light heavyweight division now.

Walker returned to the win column following a first-round knockout win over Ryan Spann on the UFC Vegas 11 main card. Despite facing adversity early on in what was a back-and-forth fight, the Brazilian was able to earn the knockout after some devastating elbows on Spann.

As a result, Walker ended a two-fight losing streak that saw him suffer setbacks against Corey Anderson and Nikita Krylov. His goal now? Climb up the division by facing fighters ranked above him.

Former title challenger Anthony Smith is one fighter he particularly earmarked as a potential opponent.

“Maybe Anthony Smith, or anyone who is above me in the ranking,” Walker said in the UFC Vegas 11 post-fight press conference (via BJ Penn). “I don’t like to fight with a Brazilian, but if I have to fight, we fight.”

Smith is not enjoying the best of times recently.

He suffered a gruesome TKO defeat to Glover Teixeira in May and was most recently outpointed by Aleksandar Rakic last month that saw him enter a two-fight losing streak.

Despite his setbacks, he is still ranked No. 8 in the light heavyweight rankings and it’s no surprise to see why No. 11-ranked Walker is interested in facing him next.

Khamzat Chimaev Wanted UFC Vegas 11 Knockout To End Khabib Comparisons

Khamzat Chimaev proved he was more than just a Khabib Nurmagomedov clone this past weekend.

Chimaev took on Gerald Meerschaert on the main card of UFC Vegas 11 on Saturday night in what was his third fight in just two months since debuting for the promotion.

There was a lot of intrigue in this particular fight as Meerschaert was a submission specialist and a clear step up from Chimaev’s previous opponents.

In the end, it didn’t matter as “The Wolf” needed just 17 seconds to deliver a statement first-round knockout that went viral. Unlike his previous two fights, which were maulings on the ground, Chimaev showed he could strike and had legitimate knockout power too.

The main goal? To show that he is his own fighter and not just another version of Nurmagomedov.

“Yeah because everybody say, ‘You are Khabib, Khabib No. 2,’ something like that – but I am Khamzat,” Chimaev said at the UFC Vegas 11 post-fight press conference (via MMA Fighting). “I can knock out people. Smash the people. Everything. I have everything.”

It certainly makes Chimaev an even more dangerous foe for future opponents as he plans on becoming a two-division champion in the future. Given how he’s going, it wouldn’t be a surprise at this rate.

Tyron Woodley isn’t retiring just yet.

Woodley suffered a fifth-round TKO defeat to Colby Covington after injuring his rib during their UFC Vegas 11 headliner this past weekend.

It put him at three defeats in a row — a first in his professional mixed martial arts career — with UFC president Dana White later urging him to consider retiring.

But that’s not what the former welterweight champion plans on doing. In fact, he isn’t even going to consider changing up his coaching team, let alone call time on his career.

“I’m not retiring – I’m not giving it up,” Woodley said on Instagram Live on Monday (via MMA Fighting). “I’m not switching all my coaches up. I’m not changing the continent I live on. I’m not doing all that.

“Some sh*t didn’t happen and guess what? I don’t know why it didn’t happen. I did everything to make it happen. Now we just take a deep breath and see what’s next.”

Woodley is still a top-level fighter but given his recent setbacks and the fact that he turned 38 earlier this year, it seems more apparent now than ever that his prime has clearly passed him.

“The Chosen One” lost his welterweight title in March last year following a unanimous decision defeat to Kamaru Usman. He returned to action in May this year only to get outpointed by Gilbert Burns.

It remains to be seen what’s next for Woodley after his most recent setback against Covington.

Who should Woodley face next in your opinion?

With the opportunity to possibly feature at UFC 254 on October 24 – new promotional signing, Michael Chander has compared his skill set to current interim lightweight titleholder, Justin ‘The Highlight’ Gaethje – labelling a potential short-notice pairing with the Arizonian, as possibly, “the best fight in UFC history“.

Chandler recently put pen to paper on a deal which would see him link up with the UFC – following a gold laden ten-year stint with Bellator MMA. Speaking upon his arrival in the promotion, organization leader, Dana White confirmed Chandler would travel to ‘Fight Island’ in Abu Dhabi for the Octagon pay-per-view – where he would make weight, acting as backup to the event headliner between Khabib Nurmagomedov, and the above noted, Gaethje.

Chandler was reportedly offered a clash with former interim gold holder, Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier for his Octagon debut, with the bout failing to come to fruition – after the promotion and Poirier failed to come to terms on a deal, with the latter also returning the loyaly shown to him by Tony Ferguson, who advocated for him after their failed matching.

Speaking about the possibility of a clash with Gaethje during an Instagram live session, Chandler detailed how he believes he’s got the better skillset when matched with the Elevation Fight Team trainee, but spoke very highly of the potential bout to boot.

I have more power than he (Justin Gaethje) does,” Chandler said. “I think I could string together the wrestling and the grappling and the striking better than he can, and it will be the biggest fight possibly in UFC history when me and Justin Gaethje step into the cage.” (H/T MMA Junkie)

The Missouri native, who plys his trade at Sanford MMA in South Florida – joins the UFC’s books, following a two-fight winning run under the Bellator banner. Scoring two first-round knockouts, the wrestling and knockout ace secured a stoppage over Dana White’s Contender Series alum, Sidney ‘Da Gun’ Outlaw in December of last year – before a second career win over former WEC and UFC 155-pound best, Benson ‘Smooth’ Henderson in August

Dustin Poirier Suggests Five-Round Clash With Tony Ferguson

With the recent scrapping of a UFC 254 co-headliner opposite fellow former interim lightweight best, Tony ‘El Cucuy’ Ferguson – Dustin ‘The Diamond’ Poirier has suggested placement of the bout one further – in a five-round headlining clash.

Poirier and Ferguson were first targeted to feature in the co-main event of UFC 254 on October 24 on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, UAE – with the former and the organization-wide of the mark in regards to financial terms, forcing the ultimate shelving of the targeted tie.

With Ferguson’s decision to both privately and publicly advocate for Poirier after talks broke down between the two – the Lafayette native reportedly also turned down the opportunity to welcome recent addition, Michael Chandler to the Octagon, with terms proving to be a stumbling block once again, but also out of loyalty to the above mentioned Ferguson.

Taking to his official Twitter account late last night, Poirier didn’t close the proverbial door on a matching with Ferguson before the close of this annum but noted his intentions to score undisputed lightweight spoils sometime next year.

Hopefully me and Tony (Ferguson) fight this year. 2021 I will be the undisputed lightweight champion of the world.

This evening, Poirier went one further – floating the idea of a five-round affair with Ferguson, sharing a fanmade poster of a potential clash – gauging fan interest.

Who wants 5 rounds? El Diamante ? El Cucuy #PaidInFull #Blood #Titleshot

With the promotion’s decision to remove Ferguson from the UFC 254 card entirely recently, that leaves the former and Poirier without their second Octagon appearances of the year. Californian all-rounded, Ferguson made his last walk at UFC 249 on short-notice, dropping an interim title opportunity via a final-frame knockout loss to Justin Gaethje.

For Poirier, the American Top Team staple last featured at UFC Fight Night Vegas in June – scoring a unanimous judging win over Dan Hooker in a back-and-forth barnburner.
