Jose Aldo has changed his tune on retiring from combat sports competition soon.

Initially, Aldo planned on finishing up his UFC deal before pursuing a career in boxing. However, Aldo has since re-signed with the UFC, and is preparing to make his bantamweight debut at UFC 245. Coming off of a loss to Alexander Volkanovski, Aldo has decided to cut down to 135 pounds and face Marlon Moraes.

Speaking to MMA Fighting, Aldo was asked why he changed his mind about wanting to fight out his UFC deal and go to boxing. Aldo noted his boxing aspirations will happen “soon,” but he plans on fighting until he’s 40-years-old.

“First of all, I want to fight until I’m 40. I’m 33 now, so I have seven more years ahead of me. I still dream about boxing, and that will happen really soon. Rest assured that it will happen. But I’ll fight for some more time. This is my first fight at bantamweight until I’m champion again.”

It was then mentioned that Aldo has previously said he didn’t want to fight much longer, but now seems to be changing his tune.

“It could be even more (than 40). First of all, I’ve never partied and drank throughout my career, I have a healthy body. What keeps me fighting is that over the years, when I didn’t want to do it anymore, I spoke with ‘Dede’ and he convinced me to do this experience at bantamweight.

“I had it in my mind that it would be difficult to make weight, to go on a diet, but it was the exact opposite. I’m feeling strong, training super well. I haven’t felt this way even when I was in the WEC. That makes me believe I have a lot more to give, and you can be sure that I will fight for many years.”

Initially, it was believed that Israel Adesanya’s first defense of the UFC middleweight championship would be against Paulo Costa.

The pair had begun a nice rivalry with one another after some very personal trash talk. However, Costa later suffered an injury that will keep him out of action until the second quarter of 2020. Now, Adesanya is expected to meet Yoel Romero in his first title defense. Of course, that hasn’t stopped Costa from taking shots at the champion.

Speaking on “The Ariel Helwani MMA Show,” Adesanya spoke about the potential clash with Costa. “Stylebender” suggested the matchup reminds him of Aldo vs. McGregor in 2015. (H/T BJPenn.com)

“You know one thing that fight reminded me of? McGregor-Aldo,” Adesanya said.

Adesanya refused to go into specifically why he thinks it reminds him of Aldo vs. McGregor, saying he’ll save it for when the time comes. Despite the setback, Adesanya believes he’ll meet Costa inside the Octagon down the line one way or another.

“It will happen. I know how to push his buttons. He’s such a meathead, I can push his buttons and make him do what I want him to do. Counter him,” Adesanya said. “People were always used to my linear attacks, they didn’t know about my lateral attacks. My hooks.

“They thought when I started countering Rob, they forget that’s what I first started doing when I started kickboxing. I was a counter striker. I went back to my roots, and I was just hitting from all angles. Like literally hitting him from all angles. Even when I was in ‘The Matrix’, caught him with an uppercut. So Paula is a guy, he’s a really aggressive bull, but I can be a matador.”

What do you think about Adesanya’s claim that a future fight with Costa will be similar to Aldo vs. McGregor?

Conor McGregor is set to return to the Octagon on January 18 inside the T-Mobile Arena from Las Vegas, Nevada. McGregor will take on Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in a welterweight main event on pay-per-view (PPV) for UFC 246.

Many fans were surprised that McGregor opted to take the fight at 170 pounds, especially when he’s gunning for a title fight at lightweight against Khabib Nurmagomedov. On a recent episode of longtime UFC commentator Joe Rogan’s podcast, “The Joe Rogan Experience,” Rogan offered his thoughts on why McGregor is fighting Cerrone at welterweight. (H/T MMA Fighting)

“Because Conor doesn’t want to lose any weight,” Rogan said. “I think that guy tortured himself to get down to 145 so hard – and when you look at what he looked like when he was on the scale, when he was flexing, he looked like a god damn zombie. It was horrible. So I think, whether he complains or not about that, nobody rides for free.

“You do that to your body for a couple of years, you do some damage and it makes it harder to lose the weight afterwards. So then he’s going up to 155. He’s obviously elite at 155, wins the title at 155, has the great rematch with Diaz at 170 and then comes back and fights Khabib at 155 and gets mauled.

“He has a fight with Cowboy, he’s really a 55er that can fight welterweight. That’s the right size for him versus, I don’t think Nate is fighting 155 any time in the future anymore.”

Rogan then explained why he thinks this is a smart option, on behalf of McGregor, suggesting the Irishman doesn’t see Cerrone as a true welterweight.

“He’s fighting a guy who, I think in his eyes is not really a welterweight,” Rogan said. “I think he thinks of Cowboy as a guy who will fight at 170 but he’s really a 55er… I think Conor’s calculated in his comeback. I think this is a smart fight for him because he’s not fighting someone who is too big, where I feel like that was the argument about Nate even though Nate did fight at 155 for a long time. He’s a big dude.

“And then there’s some other guys that want to fight him at 170 that are real 170s. [Jorge] Masvidal is a perfect example of that. Masvidal was a 155er for a long time but he’s not anymore.”

What do you think about Rogan’s prediction as to why McGregor has opted to fight at 170 pounds?
