UFC 242 headlined by Khabib Nurmagomedov was trending to be a big success, and according to reports, it drew huge numbers in Russia.

Nurmagomedov successfully defended his lightweight title against Dustin Poirier in the event’s headliner this past weekend in Abu Dhabi. It was his first fight since his career-defining win over Conor McGregor last year which made him a true global star.

That stardom was put to the test at UFC 242 and while official numbers are not out yet at least for the United States, the event did extremely well in Russia.

The event was broadcast free-to-view on Russia’s Channel 1 (Perviy Canal) and had as many as 26 million viewers across the channel’s various platforms according to reports (via RT). The headliner also had an audience of 24 percent among adult viewers across Russia according to the data.

If the North American numbers are as good as they were in Russia, one wonders how many eyeballs will be on Nurmagomedov’s next fight, especially if it’s against Tony Ferguson who is on a 12-fight win streak. That seems to be the next outing for “The Eagle” too so hopefully combat sports fans finally see one of the most anticipated matchups in recent memory.

Do you think Nurmagomedov is a solid star yet? Or are you not convinced yet?

UFC commentator Joe Rogan doesn’t agree with the claim that Brian Ortega could choke out lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Nurmagomedov recently defended his title with a dominant victory over Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 this past weekend, submitting him in the third round. However, there was one moment of adversity for “The Eagle” as Poirier locked in a deep guillotine in the third round.

It looked like he was close to finishing the champion, however, Nurmagomedov remained calm and eventually got out of it. Ortega — a jiu-jitsu black belt — was watching the fight and made his thoughts clear afterwards:

The topic even came up while Rogan was watching the fight with Brendan Schaub. However, Rogan believes that wouldn’t happen simply because Ortega is small compared to Nurmagomedov:

“I disagree with Brian Ortega because he’s too small,” Rogan said. “He’s a 145-pounder. Tony Ferguson is the man.”

Whether that’s the case or not, it’s still an intriguing matchup and one we could have gotten had Ortega stepped in to face Nurmagomedov back at UFC 223 last year.

For now, the next challenger seems to be Tony Ferguson who is far from small and also happens to have a black belt in jiu-jitsu. Maybe if he were to lock in a submission on Nurmagomedov, things would be different?

What do you think?

Jorge Masvidal had some strong words in response to Colby Covington.

The pair used to be close friends, training partners and even roommates. However, things have soured between the two in recent times, especially with Masvidal’s recent success. Many believe it’s a work between the two, but things certainly seem serious.

Earlier today on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, Covington spoke of how Masvidal was jealous of his success and how their friendship deteriorated. He also mentioned how “Gamebred” was sitting a couple of rows behind him during UFC 241 which eventually led to an altercation between the two.

To that, Masvidal had a lengthy response:

“All I know is, he knows what f*cking gym I’m at,” Masvidal told Helwani. “Actually, maybe he doesn’t know. I don’t know, I could be at the gym tomorrow, Thursday, whenever you want, Colby. I can be at the f*cking gym. And whatever incidents you’re having, we can talk about it like men. He had to tell Dana White that I was trying to assault him. Dana White came over to me like I’m in kindergarten, talking about, ‘Don’t give out no three piece and soda’. I go, ‘What the f*ck are you talking about Dana?’ and he goes, ‘No, Colby’s telling me you’re trying to assault him, you can’t do that.’” I go man, this guy is such a b*tch. Let’s talk like men. Why you online doing all this shit, for a like, for a follow?

“Because two weeks ago, he’s the one saying that I was his best friend. I haven’t said none of that shit in a while because this motherfucker did some shit I didn’t like to somebody I adore and that’s my coach. So since then, we haven’t been cool. This dude needs to slow down man. He knows better than most who the f*ck I am. I’ll be at the gym, Colby, if you’re hearing this, you little b*tch, because you will. Because he acts like he’s not sensitive, even though he’s the most sensitive dude I’ve ever met. He cries when he reads comments.”

So to confirm, are Masvidal and Covington really not friends anymore? According to the former, they haven’t kicked it in some time. And ever since the incident with the coach, things haven’t been the same:

“We haven’t kicked it in some time,” Masvidal added. “…Since his title fight with RDA, an incident happened between him and my coach. My coach cornered him in that fight as well. Since then, I never kicked it with him. I don’t like to talk about it. This right now is stupid but since this guy is bringing it up and talking about all this shit then f*ck it, we’ll bring it up. But this is supposed to be between me and him. Not between me and the f*cking world. That’s the way I was raised. But if you’re going to be a little whore and open up your mouth for attention, here it is buddy.”

What do you make of Masvidal’s response?

Tony Ferguson says he owes Khabib Nurmagomedov some punches to the stomach for a number of incidents that have occurred between the pair.

Nurmagomedov successfully defended his lightweight title against Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 this past weekend. Many now believe the fight to make is with Ferguson, with the two slated to compete against each other four times already.

Hopefully, the fifth time is the charm as Ferguson wants it to happen at UFC 245 in December. As for how he would defeat the unbeaten Dagestan native? “El Cucuy” explained how the fight would play out while revealing some outside the Octagon incidents from the past as well:

“Well, he pissed me off a couple of times,” he said in a recent interview with Ariel Helwani. “So when he and his team circle my family over at the hotel. I owe him one for that. Then Javier [Mendez] at the elevator. The elevator doors open. It was Javi, man, f*cking looking at me. I didn’t know who he was, I just remembered he was a coach. And he looked at me and he kind of went [makes sound] ‘that’s him?’ And I walked by and was like who’s that? Then I figured it out and was like what the f*ck? So that was two.

Like seriously man, I can keep counting them. I owe this dude a couple of shots to the stomach. I’m going to slam him from his feet to his back. And in sambo, that’s like a big diss. …I’m going to show him exactly what grappling is about. The dude doesn’t like to get hit. There’s no secret to this sh*t. It’s who’s going to want it more, a battle of will. UFC. December. Vegas. No bullsh*t. Defend or vacate.”

Ferguson Calls Khabib’s Team A Bunch Of Bullies

When asked to expand on the first incident in the hotel, Ferguson explained how Nurmagomedov and his team circled him and his wife:

“Yeah, we were checking in the hotel,” he added. “Him and his f*cking team, they’re like a bunch of f*cking goons or whatever. Me and my wife, we’re checking in and I looked and there were like three or four of his teammates, they were looking at us, circling us, like dude, what the f*ck? Then later on, my team and I, we had another run in with them.

These dudes are just a bunch of f*cking bullies. I’m standing up, I stood up. Ali Abdelaziz and I exchanged some words at the fight not too long ago and he f*cking knows exactly what he’s dealing with. I don’t play around. When I do, it’s cool, it’s fun and games. When it comes to this fight game, it’s more ruthless than Robbie Lawler.”

Hopefully, combat sports fans finally get to see this fight happen later this year.

What do you make of Ferguson’s comments?
