The UFC was in Calgary, Alberta, Canada tonight (Sat. July 28, 2018) for UFC on FOX 30.
In the main event, former 155-pound champion Eddie Alvarez rematched Dustin Poirier from their initial meeting back in May of 2017 which ended in a no contest. The co-main event saw former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo make his Octagon return against the heavy-hitting Jeremy “Lil Heathen” Stephens.
Also, former UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk took on Tecia Torres in her first non-title fight since 2014. You can check out how the mixed martial arts (MMA) community reacted to the epic night of fights here:
BEST BODY SHOT PUNCH IVE EVER SEEN MY GOD.#UFCCalgary
Wow that was an amazing win for Jose Aldo. Proved the doubters like myself that he still has plenty left in the tank becoming on of tha rare fighters to finish Stephens.
Jose Aldo just turned back the clock, took some of Jeremy Stephens' best shots, kept moving forward, landed one of the most devastating body shots I've ever seen and then finished with some ground and pound. Wow. That was amazing! #UFCCalgary
Aldo wins his first non-title fight since June 2009. His first finish since 2013. He’s overcome with emotion afterwards. Needed a moment like this after the two losses to Max Holloway.
Oh my God, absolutely incredible exchange of strikes between Poirier and Alvarez and Poirier gets the TKO win. This man is right in line for a title shot against the winner of Conor vs. Khabib.
Obviously can't wait to hear from Eddie Alvarez and his corner about the illegal elbow and losing position. It looked like his corner was calling for it. Crucial, crucial error. Turning point of the fight.
Tonight’s (Sat., July 28, 2018) UFC on FOX 30 is in the books from the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
In the card’s feature bout, Dustin Poirier ended his bad blood-filled rivalry with Eddie Alvarez dating back to their controversial first match last year, stopping the former lightweight champion in the second round of an exhilarating back-and-forth fight.
Longtime former featherweight champion Jose Aldo picked up a crucial win by stopping formerly surging veteran Jeremy Stephens in the co-main event, and another former champion picked up a much-needed win when Joanna Jedrzejczyk outworked Tecia Torres on the main card.

Legendary former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo came into his co-main event bout with Jeremy Stephens at tonight’s (Sat., July 28, 2018) UFC on FOX 30 from the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, with some big questions to answer.
Following two TKO losses to current champion Max Holloway and three stoppage losses in his last four fights, many had begun to write off one of MMA’s all-time greats as a has-been.
But the Brazilian legend showed just why he belongs up there with the best the UFC has ever seen when he stopped “Lil’ Heathen” in the first round of a short-lived but epic fight. The action was hot and heavy from the bell, with both fighters winging huge shots from up close:
However, Aldo persevered with the heart of a champion to come back with his own attack, smashing Stephens with an absolutely beautiful two-punch combo to the body that completely shut Stephens down and opened the floodgates to Aldo pick up the TKO stoppage – his first since 2013 in an extremely emotional victory based on the stakes involved:
One of the UFC’s most powerful young light heavyweights made a thunderous return to the Octagon at today’s (Sat., July 28, 2018) UFC on FOX 30 from the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Knockout slugger Ion Cutelaba squared off with Gadzhimurad Antigulov in a fast-paced, violent affair. Despite some big shots that appeared to at least stun Cutelaba early, Antigulov came out looking to wrestle and it was to his detriment. Rapidly tiring, the 24-year-old Moldovan capitalized in a huge way with some brutal knees and elbows along the cage wall, leaving referee Marc Goddard no choice but to stop the action.
The win gave “The Hulk” two straight knockout victories in a division that needs new blood perhaps more than any weight class in mixed martial arts.
After the impressive win, Cutelaba made the most of his on-air microphone time to say the least, calling out soon-to-be-retiring light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, who was cageside to call the action in Calgary.
The Moldovan said if Cormier “wanted his picture or autograph, he would be outside”:
Tonight’s (Sat., July 28, 2018) UFC on FOX 30 from the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, features a great lineup of high-profile fights, but a fight that flew under the radar is deservedly getting some early heat.
Such was the case in the flyweight showdown between veteran Dustin Ortiz and talented young challenger Matheus Nicolau, a frenetic one-round affair that ultimately ended with quite a KO. Nicolau was able to hit Ortiz with a big right early in the fight, but the longtime 125-pound mainstay kept his composure to land a vicious high kick that opened the gate for an onslaught of ground and pound that ended the fight.
In a division short on new contenders for dominant champion Demetrious Johnson, Ortiz could find himself in title contention if he keeps his current form. Watch Ortiz’ third straight victory and his most impressive of said streak – here:
It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Saturday, July 28, 2018) will come from in the form of UFC on FOX 30. Headlining the card are Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the preliminary section of the card.
Jordan Mein vs. Alex Morono in a welterweight bout closes the preliminary card on FOX Sports 1 in what should be an interesting fight.
Islam Makhachev vs. Kajan Johnson is next in a lightweight bout.
Austin Arnett vs. Hakeem Dawodu is next in a featherweight bout.
Gadzhimurad Antigulov vs. Ion Cutelaba in a light heavyweight bout opens the FOX Sports 1 preliminary bouts.
John Makdessi vs. Ross Pearson in a lightweight bout finishes off the UFC Fight Pass preliminary card.
Alexis Davis vs. Katlyn Chookagian is next in a female flyweight bout.
Matheus Nicolau vs. Dustin Ortiz is next in a flyweight bout. In round 1, Nicolau digs an outside leg kick, which takes Ortiz off his feet. The American quickly springs back to his feet. Nicolau lands a nice right hook to the jaw, but Ortiz walks right through it. The Brazilian slams a hard right kick to Ortiz’ ribs, but Ortiz counters with a stiff jab. Head kick from Ortiz drops Nicolau. Follow up with ground and pound and the referee jumps in.
Randa Markos vs. Nina Ansaroff is next in a women’s strawweight bout. In round 1, Markos shoots in for a single but Ansaroff is fending it off well against the cage. Markos finally is able to drag Ansaroff to the canvas and presses her into the cage. Markos slithers onto Ansaroff’s back and goe for the rear-naked choke but Ansaroff scrambles and recovers to full guard, but Markos lands some solid punches from on top. Nina explodes out and springs back to her feet with about 40 seconds left. In round 2, Ansaroff begins the second round nicely by landing a few stinging calf kicks. Markos is becoming more uncomfortable with those calf kicks. Ansaroff is striking well for the first half of the second. Ansaroff lands plenty of stiff jabs and leg kicks. Markos can’t take her down late but does crack Nina with a right-left to the head. Nice round for Ansaroff. In round 3, Markos is staying away from Ansaroff when she needs to get inside and try to score a takedown. Markos fails at another takedown attempt but cracks Ansaroff with two solid jabs to the face. Randa finally lands a takedown but Ansaroff rolls with it and lands in top half guard. In the end the judges gave the win to Ansaroff.
Opening the UFC Fight Pass prelims is Devin Powell vs. Alvaro Herrera in a lightweight bout. In round 1, Huge body kick from Powell to Herrera’s liver and Herrara doubles over. Another shot to the liver and Herrera is doubled over. Fight done.
