While it’s doubtful that Mighty Mouse and Uncle Creepy can recreate the controversy of their first fight, fans are hopeful that Ultimate Fighter semi-finalists Demetrious Johnson and Ian McCall can put together the same level of thrilling entertainment that they did in their March confrontation.

Is it a pipe dream?

I’m not suggesting that these caged warriors won’t put on an entertaining fight. If anything, I expect them to try and outdo their previous performance. But, this would not be the first time that matchmakers have tried to have lightning strike twice.

Rematches of exciting fights don’t always turn out smelling like roses. Do you remember Griffin vs Bonnar II? Or Shamrock vs Severn II?

The original battle between Johnson and McCall made history. As the first flyweight battle in UFC history, both men knew that they were part of something magical. With intensity and pugnacity, the 125 pound fighters gave us a 15 minute battle that nearly saw McCall take home the victory and move one step closer to the inaugural UFC Flyweight Championship.

Should we be skeptical about this fight? Probably not. McCall and Johnson are two fighters with incredible heart and the desire to become champions. When they square off on Friday night, make sure you are tuned in because we should expect nothing less than fireworks.

UFC on FX 3 takes place on Friday, June 8. The main card airs on FX and features four battles that will be contested at 170 pounds or lower. An eight-fight preliminary card will air on Fuel TV.

This Friday will offer yet another stacked UFC card on the FX network.

Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson squares off for the second time against Ian McCall in the main event to see who moves on to face Joseph Benavidez for the UFC flyweight championship.

Their first bout offered much controversy, meaning this grudge match could offer a defining finish for either fighter.

In the co-main event we have Erick Silva vs. Charlie Brenneman, two hungry up-and-coming welterweights looking to continue their winning ways and make a name for themselves within a crowded division.

But that’s not the only dynamic welterweight showdown on this card, as Mike Pyle battles Josh Neer, a heavy-handed bout that should surely end via KO or submission.

Last but not least, we have Eddie Wineland vs. Scott Jorgensen, two former WEC title contenders looking to prolong their success under the UFC banner. A decisive win for either man would seemingly carry future championship implications.

Predicting Friday’s action are the incomparable B/R MMA Featured Columnists John Heinis, Matt Juul and myself, Dan Hiergesell.

This Friday’s UFC on FX 3 will feature the second semifinal bout of the UFC’s inaugural flyweight tournament. The winner of the fight between Demetrious Johnson and Ian McCall will move on to a 125-pound title fight against Joseph Benavidez later this year.

In a meeting earlier this year, Johnson and McCall fought to a draw. The bout was scheduled to include a sudden-death fourth round to prevent a delay in the flyweight tournament, but commission officials incorrectly tabulated the scores and announced Johnson the winner. Once it was discovered that the fight should have gone to an extra round, it was already too late for the fighters to return to the cage.

The fight card will also include several important fights in other divisions.

In welterweight action, Erick Silva will attempt to continue his rise toward the top of the 170-pound division against Charlie Brenneman. Additionally, up-and-coming journeymen Mike Pyle and Josh Neer will make bids to become contenders in the welterweight division.

In the main card’s opening bout, the bantamweight class will be represented with a fight between Scott Jorgensen and Eddie Wineland.

Before Friday’s event, the fighters will hit the scales at the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida, on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET. Video of the weigh-ins will be streamed live on the above video player. After the weigh-ins, stay tuned to B/R MMA for all the latest on UFC on FX 3 and the rest of your MMA needs.

UFC on FX 3 (also known as UFC on FX: Johnson vs. McCall) will take place this Friday night in Sunrise, Florida.

The fight card on paper isn’t one that casual fans are going to flock to, but for those who follow the UFC relatively closely, this is a card they are excited for—and it will be a great night of fights.

One of the questions most frequently asked is who has the most to gain? Which fighter is going to take the biggest leap forward with a win?

More often than not, the fighter contending for the belt would be the one who has the most to gain. In this case there is no title fight, but the winner of Demetrious Johnson and Ian McCall will take on Joseph Benavidez for the first ever UFC flyweight championship at a later date.

“Mighty Mouse” was originally awarded the win in his first match against McCall, but there was a mishap in calculating the scoring and the decision was later correctly announced as a draw.

Should Johnson lose he will fall to 0-2-1 over his last three fights, but if he wins he will catapult into a title fight. This is a pivotal fight in his career. A fight that could propel him towards being the face of the UFC flyweight division.

McCall is facing a similar situation. A loss would put him at 0-1-1 for his first two UFC fights and could also temporarily slow down the buzz he has created for himself amongst MMA fans.

The fact of the matter is that the stakes are the highest for the Johnson/McCall fight. When looking at the fight card from top to bottom, nobody has more to gain from a win than these two.
