Robbie Lawler

In the UFC Vegas 8 co-main event, former welterweight champion Robbie Lawler looks to snap his three-fight losing skid in a late notice fight against Neil Magny. ‘The Haitian Sensation’ was originally set to face Geoff Neal but that fight fell through allowing Lawler the opportunity to get back in the win column. Let’s see who the LowKickMMA staff are backing in this one.

Jordan Ellis: I understand Robbie Lawler is no longer at the peak of his powers but unless he has seriously dropped off since the last time we saw him fight I think he should get the win in this one. Lawler may be on a three-fight losing streak but they have all come against top guys. Magny with all due respect is a level or two below the opposition Lawler usually fights and he will need to be better than ever to emerge victorious in this one.

Prediction: Robbie Lawler

Ryan Galloway: Robbie Lawler makes his long awaited return on short notice against Neil Magny in this weekends co main event. For Magny he had been preparing for Geoff Neal who is a heavy hitter just like Lawler, On the other hand, has Robbie been in the gym? Is he ready to take on a style like Magny’s? These are questions I imagine we won’t have answers to until the night, however, I like Robbie in this one, for nothing more than he is much too big an underdog in the betting margins not to take.

Prediction: Robbie Lawler

Cole Shelton: It will be nice to see Robbie Lawler back in the Octagon but I don’t see how he wins this fight. The former champ struggles against volume strikers which Magny is. I expect Magny to put the pressure on Lawler and use his clinch game to get a decision

Prediction: Neil Magny

Ryan Maccarthy: Robbie Lawler vs Neil Magny could be fight of the night. I expect both of these men to come out firing and looking for a finish. Im looking to see how Lawler looks after 3 straight losses. Im going to go with the underdog here, Robbie Lawler by tko in the 2nd.

Prediction: Robbie Lawler

In the UFC Vegas 7 main event, we have an intriguing match-up. Long-time bantamweight contender Pedro Munhoz welcomes former UFC lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar, to the 135lb division. Who will emerge victorious? Let’s see what the LowKickMMA staff think…

Jordan Ellis: For me its really hard to look past Pedro Munhoz in this one. He is one of the best of at 135lbs and besides a respectable loss to the uncrowned bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling he has been in good form. On the other hand Edgar seems to be on the back end of his career and a loss here could well be the end. I think that Edgar will suffer another loss tonight either by decision or knockout.

Prediction: Pedro Munhoz

Ryan Galloway: I think this is an extremely dangerous fight for Edgar as Munhoz is an extremely competent striker with stopping power and also has a slick guillotine that Edgar may get caught by should he choose to grapple. I think the striking is going to be the defining factor and I see Munhoz putting Edgar out relatively quickly.

Prediction: Pedro Munhoz

Harry O’Connor: After Edgar took a first round beating to the Korean Zombie, I felt he should’ve called it a day, I just can’t see him getting any better. If we’re talking about the Frankie from five years ago, sure he beats Munhoz, but Frankie is 38 now. I’m going to go with Munhoz by 1st round KO.

Prediction: Pedro Munhoz

Ryan Maccarthy: It’s going to be interesting to see how Frankie Edgar approaches this fight. He’s been hit quite a bit in his recent fights. I’m a little nervous about that. Can he endure those big shots from Pedro, who is a big hitter? If I had to pick, Im gonna have to go with Pedro Munhoz, the younger harder hitting Bantamweight takes a huge leap with this win. I know Munhoz took a loss against me in his last fight, but I think Father Time is starting to catch up with Frankie. He’s been knocked out by the likes of Brian Ortega and Chan Sung Jung recently and Pedro Munhoz hits just as hard as those guys. Munhoz by TKO in the 2nd round.

Prediction: Pedro Munhoz

Stipe Miocic vs. Daniel Cormier III | UFC 252 Staff Predictions

Stipe Miocic

In the UFC 252 main event, we have one of the biggest heavyweight fights ever as Stipe Miocic faces off against Daniel Cormier for the third and final time. Check out who the LowKickMMA staff think will win this rubber match below…

Jordan Ellis: I’m backing Daniel Cormier going into this one. ‘DC’ has dominated the vast majority of this rivalry so far. I do believe he got overconfident in the last fight and paid the ultimate price. I don’t think he will make the same mistake twice. Cormier will mix in his boxing and wrestling to get this done down the stretch. He could stop Miocic in the middle rounds or drag it out to a decision. Either way I see Cormier getting his hand raised before sailing off into the sunset.

Prediction: Daniel Cormier

Abhinav Kini: I feel Daniel Cormier will go out on a high. The body shot problem will still be there which Stipe Miocic can exploit but given this is his last fight, I think Cormier will be better prepared for it. Along with him planning to use his wrestling more and this being in the smaller Apex Octagon, I can see “DC” getting the decision.

Prediction: Daniel Cormier

Ryan Maccarthy: This is really a -110/-110 pick ’em fight. There are so many different factors. Stipe Miocic took Francis Ngannou down pretty much at will. Ngannou is a massive human being. Stipe doesn’t get tired, he wont. He’s going to be ready and in shape. It’s about who can impose their will on the other. Cormier will try to wrestle and might have success with it, but i dont believe he will be able to have his way with Miocic like some. If this goes into championship rounds, I think Stipe keeps this standing I truly believe Stipe Miocic takes this and becomes the greatest heavyweight of all time. Two great champions facing off one final time. Everyone wins here, the fans win. It’s a huge fight. I can see the argument for both for sure. Miocic by TKO in the 4th Round.

Prediction: Stipe Miocic

Harry O’Connor: I’m honestly so torn on this one, I keep changing my mind but as of right now I think that DC will do it. DC knows how important this fight is for both men and despite him saying he wants to ‘fight’ at the press conference I can see him really trying to utilise his wrestling this fight to wear Stipe out. I think DC will take this one on points.

Prediction: Daniel Cormier

Sean O’Malley vs. Marlon Vera | UFC 252 Staff Predictions

Sean O'MalleyIn the co-main event surging bantamweight star ‘Suga’ Sean O’Malley is in his biggest and toughest fight to date. Sean O'Malley

In the co-main event surging bantamweight star ‘Suga’ Sean O’Malley is in his biggest and toughest fight to date. He faces Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera who is looking to derail the O’Malley hype train and catapult himself into contention at 135lbs. Who’ll emerge victoriously? Let’s see what the LowKickMMA staff think.

Jordan Ellis: I’m backing Sean O’Malley to keep this train rolling. However, I don’t think it’ll be as easy as he anticipates. ‘Suga’ will likely need all three rounds to outpoint Marlon Vera and emerge victorious via the judges’ scorecards.

Prediction: Sean O’Malley

Abhinav Kini: Marlon Vera is Sean O’Malley’s biggest test yet and I expect this to be a competitive affair. That said, Vera will likely stand with O’Malley who is a superior striker in my eyes. I can see “Sugar” getting the decision but it would be some statement if he became the first to finish Vera and that’s what he seemingly plans on doing with a knockout prediction.

Prediction: Sean O’Malley

Ryan Maccarthy: I personally think O’Malley is too big of a betting favorite at -310 here. Marlon Vera is extremely dangerous. This fight will determine if the Suga Show is still a young prospect or a true contender in the Bantamweight division. He’s got a lot of attention and hype coming into this fight, rightfully so. Im going to take O’Malley via KO in the 2nd round.

Prediction: Sean O’Malley

Harry O’Connor: I’m becoming more and more invested in Sean O’Malley; I think he has a good attitude and every time he fights he just adds another carriage to the hype train. A win over Marlon Vera would prove to me he is the real deal. However, Vera is now pushover, he’s never been finished so for O’Malley to do that might be a bit of a reach. I’m going to go with O’Malley on points.

Prediction: Sean O’Malley

Junior Dos Santos vs. Jairzinho Rozenstruik | UFC 252 Staff Predictions

Junior dos SantosIn the first heavyweight blockbuster of the night, we have former UFC champion Junior Dos Santos taking on Jairzinho Rozenstruik. Junior dos Santos

In the first heavyweight blockbuster of the night, we have former UFC champion Junior Dos Santos taking on Jairzinho Rozenstruik. Dos Santos is looking to bounce back after suffering two straight losses against Curtis Blaydes and Francis Ngannou. Rozenstruik is also trying to get back in the win column tonight after suffering the first loss of his professional MMA career. The 32-year-old was viciously knocked out by Ngannou when the pair met at UFC 249 back in May. Who will get the victory tonight? Let’s see what the LowKickMMA staff think…

Jordan Ellis: I think this is a really evenly matched fight that could go either way. After lots and back-and-forth, I’m going to go with Junior Dos Santos in this one. I think despite the fact he is past his prime he has proven himself capable of mixing it with the best – beating the likes of Derrick Lewis just last year. Jairzinho Rozenstruik’s biggest win came against Alistair Overeem but it was a fight he was dominated in for almost 25 minutes. Now he comes off one of the most brutal KOs in UFC history. I just think he has been pushed too quickly and will again fall short against an elite level heavyweight in Dos Santos.

Prediction: Junior Dos Santos

Abhinav Kini: Nobody knows how Jairzinho Rozenstruik will perform coming off a brutal first career defeat. That said, I think he has what it to takes to defeat Junior dos Santos who while still a top contender, is prone to errors which can be fatal against heavy hitters like Rozenstruik.

Prediction: Jairzinho Rozenstruik

Ryan Maccarthy: Both of these heavyweight contenders are coming off losses. Its hard to tell where they are at mentally, do we know how Rozenstruik will rebound from his first career loss? No we dont. We do know Junior Dos Santos is a veteran that doesnt make many mistakes. Im leaning towards the powerful and dangerous Rozenstruik, but dont be surprised if JDS pulls off the win here.

Prediction: Jairzinho Rozenstruik

Harry O’Connor: I feel sorry for Jarzinho Rozenstruik after his last fight, 20 seconds against Ngannou could make everyone forget how dangerous he actually is. I expect him to come out with full intent to re-ignite himself as a danger in the heavyweight division, for that reason I think he will knock a fading Junior Dos Santos out in the first round.

Prediction: Jairzinho Rozenstruik
