In the UFC 251 main event Kamaru Usman defend his welterweight title against late replacement opponent Jorge Masvidal. Will Usman be able to make the second defence of his 170lb strap? Or will ‘Gamebred’ become the new champion? Let’s see what the LowKickMMA think…

Jordan Ellis: I am ignoring my head on this one and just going with my gut. I think Jorge Masvidal will win. Despite that I realize Usman is a massive favourite and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him dominate in this fight tonight. Masvidal just seems to be peaking right now. He’s in great form and I think he will land something big, knockout Usman and become the welterweight champion in the UFC 251 main event.

Prediction: Jorge Masvidal

Ryan Galloway: In the main event of UFC251 I believe Kamaru Usman will retain his title as UFC Welterweight champion. I think while the short notice does favour Masvidal, outside of one big punch Usman will utilise his wrestling and grind him out for five rounds.

Prediction: Kamaru Usman

Harry O’Connor: As much as Jorge brings in excitement, I can’t see him beating Usman. I think unless Jorge lands early he will be in for a long 25 minutes with Usman. I think it’s going to be a very similar fight to Conor and Khabib in which we will see Usman dominate on the ground. I’m going to go with either Usman late on or Usman on points.

Prediction: Kamaru Usman

Alexander Volkanovski

In the co-main event, Alexander Volkanovski defends his featherweight title for the first time in a rematch against the man he dethroned in December, Max Holloway. Will it be repeat or revenge at UFC 251? Let’s see what the LowKickMMA staff thinks…

Jordan Ellis: I have struggled to make a pick on this one as I truly believe it is a 50/50 fight. Ultimately I have gone with Max Holloway because I know he can be so much better than he was at UFC 245. I expect him to be aggressive from the off and disturb whatever tactics Volkanovski has planned for the fight. The fight will go into the later round and most likely to a decision – one I believe Holloway will win although it could go either way.

Prediction: Max Holloway

Ryan Galloway: I see Volkanovski defending his title. Max claims to not have had training partners in person during his camp and if this is the case that is going to severely hinder his performance and will likely see Australia keep their UFC champion

Prediction: Alexander Volkanovski

Harry O’Connor: In the last fight Max Holloway fell victim to lethal combinations on the inside and brutal leg kicks on the outside which means Max has had just over 6 months to work on what went wrong. Can Max do enough to overturn such a dominant victory from Volkanovski? I don’t think so. I think Volkanovski wins by unanimous decision again.

Prediction: Alexander Volkanovski

Jose Aldo

The first of three title bouts at UFC 251 sees featherweight great Jose Aldo face off against Petr Yan the bantamweight belt recently vacated by retiring champion Henry Cejudo. Who will become the new 135lb champion? Let’s see what the LowKickMMA staff think…

Jordan Ellis: I am picking Petr Yan to stop Jose Aldo inside the distance at UFC 251. He is the future at bantamweight and I expect he will prove that tonight. Aldo is certainly capable of springing the upset despite being far past his prime heading into this fight. The Brazilian carries a considerable size advantage into the octagon and he will be Yan’s toughest test to date but it is a test Yan will pass with flying colours.

Prediction: Petr Yan

Ryan Galloway: I am going to take the veteran Aldo against Petr Yan in the bantamweight title fight. Aldo is much more experienced and has defeated higher calibre competition, due to this I think he is being overlooked by a lot of people and may pull a big upset tonight.

Prediction: Jose Aldo

Harry O’Connor: For me this one is a close fight, I think this will be Aldo’s last shot at gold in the UFC. I can see this being a very close affair on the feet. However, I think Yan’s youth and ruthlessness will earn him the title against Aldo. I can see Yan winning by KO in round 4.

Prediction: Petr Yan

In the UFC on ESPN 12 main event former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier returns for the first time since losing against 155lb king Khabib Nurmagomedov. He’ll take on fellow contender Dan Hooker who is currently riding a three-fight win streak and hoping to claim the biggest win of his career against ‘The Diamond’.

Jordan Ellis: I heavily favour Dustin Poirier heading into this fight. He has beat several guys who I believe are better than Dan Hooker. Poirier still appears to be very much at the top of his game despite suffering a lopsided loss against Khabib Nurmagomedov. I expect him to win in a highly entertaining and competitive fight which I cant wait to watch!

Prediction: Dustin Poirier

Abhinav Kini: I have a sneaky feeling Dustin Hooker will pull off the upset but that aside, it should be a win for Dustin Poirier who is arguably the best fighter Hooker has faced so far. Hooker will be the bigger man but Poirier has the superior striking and ground game to get the finish in a number of ways.

Prediction: Dustin Poirier

Ryan Galloway: In the main event this weekend between Dan Hooker and Dustin Poirier I am picking Poirier. I think Poirier is going to be the aggressor and put Hooker on the back foot, throw volume and wear him out. If he can watch out for the counter knees I think he has a good chance of beating hooker down and finding a finish in the later rounds of the fight.

Prediction: Dustin Poirier

Ryan Maccarthy: What a fight this will be, im going to take Dustin Poirier by 4th round TKO. Its hard to pick against a guy where his last 5 fights have been against Khabib, Holloway, Alvarez, Gaethje and Pettis. I mean are you kidding me? Don’t underestimate Dan Hooker though, I expect this to be fight of the night and a potential fight of the year candidate.

Prediction: Dustin Poirier

Curtis Blaydes

Tonight the UFC returns to Las Vegas, Nevada to host yet another stacked night of fights. In the main event top, heavyweight contenders Curtis Blaydes and Alexander Volkov square off. The winner will move one step closer to challenging the likes of Francis Ngannou, Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic. The loser will go back to the bottom of the pile in this high stakes heavyweight match-up. Check out the LowKickMMA staff predictions ahead of this mammoth main even.

Jordan Ellis: I really fancy Curtis Blaydes in this fight. I think his high-level wrestling and heavy hands will get him the win. Alexander Volkov is an elite level striker but lacks the power you need to get rid of someone like Blaydes. I expect the American to get the finish at some point but wouldn’t be surprised to see Volkov hang tough for the full five rounds – either way I see him losing in Las Vegas tonight.

Prediction: Curtis Blaydes

Abhinav Kini: Alexander Volkov is a smart and effective striker but I only see this fight going one way and that’s on the ground. I can’t see Volkov stopping the takedowns of Curtis Blaydes who I expect to grind out a dominant decision victory.

Prediction: Curtis Blaydes

Ryan Galloway: I see Curtis Blaydes getting the victory. Blaydes has shown time and time again the only way to beat him is to put him out before he finds a finish. I don’t think Volkov is going to land that big punch before Blaydes is able to take him to the ground and maul him. While it is a good matchup I think Blaydes is going to showcase why he belongs at the top of the division.

Prediction: Curtis Blaydes

Ryan Maccarthy: I have Blaydes in this one. I dont see this being a good night for Volkov, the smaller cage is only going to make it worse. I see Blaydes imposing his wrestling and eventually ending this with ground and pound within the first 2 rounds.

Prediction: Curtis Blaydes
