Mackenzie Dern and Amanda Lemos closed out the UFC 298 prelims with a bang on Saturday night.
Stepping in for a short-notice showdown with the one-time UFC title challenger, Dern showed her heart and determination throughout the three-round affair, never backing down even when she was battered and bloody in the second round.
Dern’s lead leg was compromised in the early going due to a series of vicious calf kicks courtesy of Lemos, but that didn’t stop Dern from marching forward and letting her hands go. However, Lemos nearly scored a finish in the second when Dern came rushing in and caught a counter that immediately busted up the Brazilian-American beauty’s nose.
Still, Dern never let up and narrowly escaped with a victory in the third after controlling a majority of the round with her world-class BJJ.
But despite her best efforts, it was Lemos who would have her hand raised after 15 grueling minutes.
Official Result: Amanda Lemos def. Mackenzie Dern via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Zhang Mingyang delivered a memorable debut at UFC 298.
From the moment Zhang stepped into the Octagon against Contender Series alum Brendson Ribeiro, fans were on the edge of their seat expecting a highlight-reel-worthy finish. They got exactly that when ‘Mountain Tiger’ delivered a straight left followed by a right hand and finally, another nasty left that sent Ribeiro crashing to the canvas.
Zhang quickly swarmed his opponent and delivered some brutal hammer fists that ultimately rendered his opponent unconscious, forcing referee Mike Beltran to step in and call for the stoppage less than two minutes into the contest.
Official Result: Zhang Mingyang def. Brendson Ribeiro via KO (strikes) at 1:41 of Round 1.
With the victory, Zhang extended his current win streak to 10 in a row — a run dating back to January 2020. He also maintained his 100% finish rate with 11 of his 17 victories coming by way of knockout.

Jack Hermansson handed Joe Pyfer his first loss inside the Octagon at UFC Vegas 86 on Saturday night.
From the opening bell, Joe Pyfer was in control of the contest, putting Hermansson on his back foot and getting the Swedish standout to bite on every feint. ‘The Joker’ made some solid adjustments in the second round that began to pay dividends in the third with Hermansson softening up Pyfier via some well-placed jabs and stinging low kicks.
Pyfer got hit with a stiff jab that appeared to affect his vision just over the halfway point of the third. Undeterred, ‘Bodybagz’ caught Hermansson off balance with a big left hand that had the Swede backing up and looking to create some space. Pyfer ended the round on a good note, but the third likely went to Hermansson on the scorecards.
Hermansson’s jab continued to get the job done in the fourth, leading both corners to believe that the fight was 2-2 going into the fifth and final round. Pyfer’s corner stressed urgency, but it was the jab of ‘The Joker’ that continued to stifle his opponent’s offense in the later rounds.
With three minutes to go in the fight, Hermansson scored his first successful takedown of the fight, immediately getting into Pyfer’s half-guard. ‘The Joker’ pummeled Pyfer with a series of ground-and-pound strikes, never allowing ‘Bodybagz’ to get back to his feet before the final bell.
Official Result: Jack Hermansson def. Joe Pyfer via unanimous decision (48-47, 48-47, 48-47)

With his wife due to give birth at any moment, Dan Ige knew he had to make quick work of his opponent at UFC Vegas 86 on Saturday night.
After coming up short in his last outing against Bryce Mitchell in February, the top-15 ranked featherweight delivered another finish for the highlight-reel, blasting his opponent and teammate Andre Fili in the opening round of their co-main event clash. Just before hitting the halfway point, Fili threw an uninspired jab that gave ’50k’ the perfect opportunity to unleash his signature right hand.
Connecting clean, Fili crashed to the canvas and was unable to protect himself from one final blow before the referee could rush in and call for the stoppage.
Official Result: Dan Ige def. Andre Fili via KO (right hand) at 2:43 of Round 1.

Rafael Fiziev suffered an unfortunate knee injury in the second round of his UFC Vegas 79 main event with Mateusz Gamrot.
The opening round went pretty much how fight fans expected, with Rafael Fiziev attempting to land heavy shots while Gamrot worked to get things to the ground. Neither fighter was able to impose their will in the first five minutes, but Fiziev managed to land some solid strikes whilst avoiding the takedown attempts of Gamrot which likely earned him the round.
Tragically, the second round would bring an anti-climactic end to the bout when Fiziev threw a right kick near the two-minute mark. ‘Ataman’ appeared to pop his left knee in the process which immediately sent him crashing to the canvas and grimacing in pain. Gamrot moved in, but the referee quickly recognized that something was wrong and called a stop to the bout less than halfway through the round.
Official Results: Mateusz Gamrot def. Rafael Fiziev via TKO (injury) at 2:03 of Round 2.

Bryce Mitchell got back into the win column with a dominant three-round performance against Dan Ige at UFC Vegas 79.
Dan Ige quickly appeared to have an advantage in striking, landing some solid strikes that eventually encouraged Mitchell to move in for his first takedown attempt. Ige defended successfully and landed a left that cut Mitchell open under his right eye. Determined to get things to the ground, Mitchell landed a double leg in the final minute and immediately landed in the mount. ‘Thug Nasty’ scored some solid ground and pound strikes just as the opening round came to a close.
Ige came out swinging in the second, landing a nasty right hand right out the gate. Bryce Mitchell’s right eye looks significantly worse at this point, prompting the referee to pause the action and call in the ringside physician. The bout was allowed to resume, but the damage is notably significant.
Upon the restart, Mitchell attempted another quick takedown, but Ige reversed and landed on top before making his way back up. With two minutes to go, Mitchell caught Ige coming in and immediately landed a takedown. Mitchell moved directly into mount prompting Ige to give up his back in an attempt to get back up. With Mitchell threatening a rear-naked choke, Ige transitioned to his back once again and found himself in an arm triangle. ’50k’ was able to defend against the submission attempt and make it out of the round.
The final round saw Mitchell aggressively attempt to take Ige to the ground. As a result, Ige was unable to mount any offense guaranteeing ‘Thug Nasty’ would take the third round on the scorecards. But did he take the fight?
Official Result: Bryce Mitchell def. Dan Ige via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28).
