Headlining UFC Vegas 79 over the course of the last weekend, lightweight Rafael Fiziev was forced into a second round TKO loss to Mateusz Gamrot due to an unfortunate knee injury – and has now confirmed a tear of his ACL (anterior cruciate ligament).

Fiziev, who took main event honors for the second time in his Octagon tenure, suffered his second consecutive loss over the course last weekend, dropping a TKO defeat to Polish contender, Gamrot, after he found himself on the wrong side of a close, majority decision defeat to former interim champion and BMF gold holder, Justin Gaethje back in March at UFC 286.

Now riding a two-fight losing streak for the first time in his professional career, following nose surgery last year, Tiger Muay Thai ace, Fiziev is now set for another extended period on the sidelines, after confirming an ACL tear suffered against Gamrot at the UFC Apex facility.

“My ACL said salam alaykum and ran off,” Rafael Fiziev posted on his official social media. “I will be back. I’m just sad because I had a very great camp, and I was ready to show my best kills.”

I’m sad because it happened only in the second round,” Rafael Fiziev explained. “We have plans, but God has different plans. His plan is always the best.”

Prior to his loss to former interim lightweight Gaethje, Fiziev had racked up notable Octagon triumphs over the likes of Marc Diakiese, Renato Moicano, Bobby Green, Brad Riddell, and his premiere headliner in the UFC, stopped former undisputed lightweight champion, Rafael dos Anjos with a fifth round KO win.

Michael Bisping under fire for cutting Bryce Mitchell’s prayer short at UFC Vegas 79: ‘That stage belonged to him’

Michael Bisping Bryce Mitchell Dan Ige

The beloved UK legend Michael Bisping has been faced with a lot of criticism after UFC Vegas 79 for cutting Bryce Mitchell’s octagon interview short after ‘Thug Nasty’ launched into prayer.

The fight between Mitchell and Dan Ige had been a grimy one. In classic fashion, Mitchell looked to grind his opponent out and found a moderate bit of success with that strategy. Ige impressed by exercising some excellent takedown and grappling defense, but at the end of the day, it wouldn’t quite be enough. Mitchell scored five takedowns out of the 15 he attempted, and also racked up over seven minutes of control time on his way to a decision victory over ’50k’ Ige.

After the fight, things quickly got a little weird. It wasn’t just because Mitchell was holding a bible and trying to preach the word of god, but more so: it was the way he went about it. ‘Thug Nasty’ claimed Satan was taking over the world, and also that the fires in Hawaii were not natural. He also went as far as to say that “they” were trying to take the island away from the natives. Although, Mitchell didn’t really name who “they” were.

Michael Bisping cuts the insane ranting of Bryce Mitchell short and gets blasted for it on social media

Michael Bisping seemed rather uncomfortable when the topic turned to “they” trying to take Hawaii away from the natives, and even though Bryce Mitchell requested Dan Ige lead the world into a quick prayer, Bisping ended the interview as tactfully as he could and made for a quick exit.

Some fans thought this was extremely rude, and that Bisping should have stayed and let Ige lead the world in a quick prayer. However, many fans also forget that the decision was not entirely Michael Bisping’s alone. It is well known that commentators wear earpieces and receive feedback live from the producer. If Bisping was ordered by the producer of the show to end the interview, he could’ve landed in some hot water for refusing to follow that order.

Still, a good bit of religious fans still seem pretty upset about the situation. “UFC: After Bryce Mitchell won his match tonight, he asked ringside announcer and broadcaster Michael Bisping to allow his opponent to lead in prayer. Bisping refused and walked away,” said one fan.

“Bisping is an absolute #b*tch for that!” Another fan wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “That stage belonged to the victor @ThugnastyMMA to share his voice on WHATEVER HE WANTED. Bisping DENIED Bryce an opportunity for prayer. Guarantee he wouldn’t have dared had it been ANY other religion. #f*ckyoubisping”

Do you think the hate Michael Bisping is receiving is fair?

Off the back of his victory over striking ace, Rafael Fiziev last night in the main event of UFC Vegas 79, Polish grappling talent, Mateusz Gamrot has claimed he wants to test his grappling ability in the future against former undisputed lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira.

Gamrot, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion under the banner of European outfit, KSW, landed a second round TKO win over Tiger Muay Thai striking ace, Fiziev last night in the main event of UFC Vegas 79, after the latter suffered a knee injury after a miscued kick attempt.

The victory came as number seven rated, Gamrot’s second consecutively, after he previously scored a split decision win over Jalin Turner at the lightweight limit back in March at UFC 285.

And in the immediate aftermath of his TKO win over Fiziev last night, Gamrot reminded viewers of his grappling ability – claiming he would love to test his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu prowess against the promotion’s most prolific submission grappler, Oliveira.

“Everybody [says] I am a wrestler, I am a striker, I really believe in myself [as a grappler],” Mateusz Gamrot told assembled media after UFC Vegas 79. “I won many BJJ tournaments, and I won two times at the ADCC trials. In the next one, I would like to test myself against Charles Oliveira because he’s the most dangerous guy on the ground.”

“My previous opponents every time it is stand up and like the ground is hot for everybody,” Mateusz Gamrot explained. “But the next one, I would like to challenge myself on the ground, you know, I want to show my really good skills in Jiu-Jitsu. I want to show how good I am on the ground, and I think this guy will be the first guy in my career who’s gonna fight with me on the ground.”

Booking his return at UFC 294 next month, Oliveira takes on undisputed lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev in the pair’s championship rematch atop an Abu Dhabi, UAE pay-per-view card.

Rafael Fiziev suffered an unfortunate knee injury in the second round of his UFC Vegas 79 main event with Mateusz Gamrot.

The opening round went pretty much how fight fans expected, with Rafael Fiziev attempting to land heavy shots while Gamrot worked to get things to the ground. Neither fighter was able to impose their will in the first five minutes, but Fiziev managed to land some solid strikes whilst avoiding the takedown attempts of Gamrot which likely earned him the round.

Tragically, the second round would bring an anti-climactic end to the bout when Fiziev threw a right kick near the two-minute mark. ‘Ataman’ appeared to pop his left knee in the process which immediately sent him crashing to the canvas and grimacing in pain. Gamrot moved in, but the referee quickly recognized that something was wrong and called a stop to the bout less than halfway through the round.

Official Results: Mateusz Gamrot def. Rafael Fiziev via TKO (injury) at 2:03 of Round 2.

Bryce Mitchell got back into the win column with a dominant three-round performance against Dan Ige at UFC Vegas 79.

Dan Ige quickly appeared to have an advantage in striking, landing some solid strikes that eventually encouraged Mitchell to move in for his first takedown attempt. Ige defended successfully and landed a left that cut Mitchell open under his right eye. Determined to get things to the ground, Mitchell landed a double leg in the final minute and immediately landed in the mount. ‘Thug Nasty’ scored some solid ground and pound strikes just as the opening round came to a close.

Ige came out swinging in the second, landing a nasty right hand right out the gate. Bryce Mitchell’s right eye looks significantly worse at this point, prompting the referee to pause the action and call in the ringside physician. The bout was allowed to resume, but the damage is notably significant.

Upon the restart, Mitchell attempted another quick takedown, but Ige reversed and landed on top before making his way back up. With two minutes to go, Mitchell caught Ige coming in and immediately landed a takedown. Mitchell moved directly into mount prompting Ige to give up his back in an attempt to get back up. With Mitchell threatening a rear-naked choke, Ige transitioned to his back once again and found himself in an arm triangle. ’50k’ was able to defend against the submission attempt and make it out of the round.

The final round saw Mitchell aggressively attempt to take Ige to the ground. As a result, Ige was unable to mount any offense guaranteeing ‘Thug Nasty’ would take the third round on the scorecards. But did he take the fight?

Official Result: Bryce Mitchell def. Dan Ige via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28).

Marina Rodriguez delivered a stunning display of violence en route to a second-round TKO against the ‘Karate Hottie’ at UFC Vegas 79.

Waterson-Gomez came out immediately looking to pressure Rodriguez and managed to put the Brazilian on her back in the opening seconds with a slick double-leg takedown. Rodriguez worked her way back up just past the 90-second mark and landed some solid knees in the clinch prompting Waterson-Gomez to back off.

Attempting to shoot for another takedown, Waterson-Gomez again found herself getting lit up in the clinch. With two minutes to go, Waterson-Gomez was a bloody mess after enduring a barrage of vicious knees and elbows from Rodriguez. To her credit, Waterson-Gomez never once stopped fighting back and miraculously managed to make it out of the first round.

In the second round, Waterson-Gomez continued to attempt to take things to the ground, but a reversal from Rodriguez allowed her to mount the ‘Karate Hottie’ and unleash a flurry of elbows that forced the referee to step and mercifully call for the stoppage.
