Rescheduled for tonight’s main event, heavyweight contenders, Curtis Blaydes and Derrick Lewis finally square off following the cancellation of their first attempted pairing back in November at UFC Vegas 15 amid a positive COVID-19 test result from the former.

Hoping to continue on his quest to his premier promotional title challenge, Lewis, like Blaydes headlines his second event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas — following his June unanimous decision victory over the recent feature, Alexander Volkov.

For New Orleans favourite, Lewis, a victory over the #2 ranked Blaydes would surely guarantee him his second title challenge under the UFC’s banner. Featuring in August of last year in a main event slot against common-foe, Aleksei Olienik, Lewis became the most prolific knockout artist in the history of the UFC’s heavyweight division, notching his eleventh stoppage via strikes.

In a co-main event matchup, Brazilian striker, Ketlen Vieira is rebooked to match with former Invicta FC bantamweight champion and one-time UFC featherweight title challenger, Yana Kunitskaya. Tipping the bantamweight scales at yesterday’s weigh-ins, Vieira was fined twenty percent of her fight purse, with the matchup proceeding at a 138-pound catchweight limit.

Manaus native, Vieira returned to the Octagon following her first promotional loss back in December of 2019 — taking a unanimous decision victory over Sijara Eubanks at UFC 252 last September.

Also returning to the win-column following a knockout loss of her own, Kunitskaya managed a unanimous judging win of her own against Julija Stoliarenko at UFC Vegas 6 in August.

IT’S TIME! The UFC 258 main event is finally upon us. Kamaru Usman will look to defend the welterweight strap against his former teammate Gilbert Burns. Who’ll win? Let’s find out…

Round 1: Gilbert Burns rushes forward and misses with a big punch early. The Brazilian is getting busy with his strikes in the opening minute. Burns lands an overhand right that drops Kamaru Usman. The champ is able to survive the flurry. Burns lands a head kick but falls to the mat. Usman is cautious to jump into the guar of Burns who is a very talented BJJ black belt. Usman is content landing kicks to the leg and backside of his downed opponent but this is something of a stalemate right now. Burns is back up and immediately throws his heavy hands. A nice short hook lands from Burns. Usman fires back with a strong low kick before following it up with a body kick. Burns lands a nice right hand down the pipe. Usman is starting to find success with his jab. Burns is being very dynamic with his attacks. He goes from a takedown attempt to the head kick. The Brazilian is letting his hands go at the end of round one.

Round 2: Burns picks up where he left off in round one, pressing forward and putting it on the champ. He’s finding success with his low kicks. Usman returns with a kick of his own. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ catches a kick and lands a nice punch. Burns stings Usman with another overhand right. Usman lands a hab that knocks Burns back on his heels. He follows it up with a huge overhand right that has Burns wobbled. Usman is swarming for the finishing. Burns is in serious trouble eating shots. Usman drops the pace back down and is now content to pick his shots. Usman drops Burns with a jab before inviting the Brazilian to get back up. Usman continues to be patient on the feet before round two comes to a close.

Round 3: Burns pushes forward at the start of round three. Usman drops him and follows up with a ton of ground strikes before referee Herb Deans steps in to wave off this fight. WOW!

Round 1: Maycee Barber comes bouncing out early. The youngster is bopping around, popping out her jab. Alexa Grasso has her high guard and is throwing kicks and punches to maintain distance. The two fighters clinch and trade position several times against the cage. They eventually separate and Grasso lands off the break. Barber swings wildly and Grasso catches her with a one-two. Once again they clinch up against the Octagon wall. Both fighters have their moments of control here. Grasso lands a nice elbow over the top. They break and Barber lands two consecutive shots. She rushes in but Grasso catches her and stops the forward momentum. These girls are swinging! Barber lands big but is once again caught clean as she’s storms in to follow up. More clinch work against the fence until the end of round one.

Round 2: A quiet start to round two before Grasso starts to put her hands together. Barber tries a high kick which just misses. ‘The Future’ lands a big overhand but is caught with a hook which wobbles her. Grasso is unable to follow up but that was the biggest shot of the fight. Barber gets the clinch against the fence. As we saw often in round one these two ladies trade positions before separating. Barber is throwing haymakers, some are landing but she is being consistently countered with clean strikes. Barber forces this fight to the mat. She’s trying to get into her opponent’s guard but Grasso is kicking like crazy to keep her off. She eventually grabs Barber’s arm and uses the submission threat to reverse position. Grasso is in control on the ground now. She ends round two on the back of Barber threatening with a choke attempt.

Round 3: Barber is throwing a lot and missing a lot at the start of round three. The clock is ticking down and not much is happening. Barber partially lands before pushing the fight up against the fence. The youngster eventually secures the takedown. Barber does some good work on the floor before they go at it on the feet. Barber is swinging wild. She is behind in this fight and looking for the finish. Grasso survives the initial wave of strikes. The two ladies clinch against the fence once again. Barber is doing good work in the clinch. She’s landing knees, punches, elbows – everything she’s got she’s throwing at Grasso. Thirty seconds left. Barber is headhunting now. Barber finishes the fight with a big takedown.

Gastelum takes him down but Heinisch attempts with another kimura attempt. However, Gastelum is in mount and gets out. Heinisch scrambles and gets to his feet. Heinisch lands a leg kick. Gastelum responds with a body kick. Gastelum goes for another takedown and has Heinisch clinched up against the fence. Gastelum takes him down but Heinisch gets back to his feet again. Heinisch escapes and they return to striking. Gastelum employs a jab and puts pressure on Heinisch. Both fighters miss a head kick as the round ends.

Round 2: Heinisch misses an overhand right. Gastelum lands a couple of big leg kicks. Gastelum eats a right hand. Heinisch lands a flying knee but Gastelum eats that and takes him down in response. Heinisch eventually separates and they return to striking. Gastelum clinches him up soon after. Heinisch separates and sees his body kick partially blocked. Gastelum clinches him up against the fence again but eventually lets go and returns to striking. Gastelum lands a left straight. Heinisch lands a huge body kick which is undoubtedly the best strike he has thrown. Gastelum clinches him up again as the round ends.

Round 3: Gastelum goes for a takedown attempt but gives up on it. Heinisch lands a nice right hand. Heinisch goes for his own takedown but Gastelum scrambles and has him clinched up against the fence right away. They separate soon after. Gastelum lands a nice left. Heinisch goes for another flying knee but gets taken down. Heinisch reverses and takes Gastelum’s back as he threatens with a rear naked choke. Gastelum scrambles and is now in Heinisch’s guard. Heinisch rolls and escapes as they return to striking with just over a minute remaining. They clinch up and Gastelum lands some knees. They separate before Heinisch goes for a takedown. Gastelum reverses and they return to striking. Heinisch lands a takedown but Gastelum gets up and lands his own to end the fight.

Round 1: After some left hooks from both, Simon level changes and takes Kelleher down in the center of the Octagon. Kelleher scrambles to the side of the cage but is still controlled by Simon. Kelleher appears to be bleeding badly on his face but it’s not known how it happened. Simon takes him down soon after he gets up and is in half guard now. Simon appears to be going for an arm triangle choke but Kelleher escapes. Joe Rogan reveals it was an elbow that led to Kelleher’s cut. Simon takes his back but Kelleher escapes and the fight is standing again. Simon gets another takedown and goes for another arm triangle choke. Kelleher escapes but he is breathing heavy this time as he does it. The fight returns to striking. Both fighters exchange leg kicks. Simon ducks a left hook as the round ends.

Round 2: Simon lands a nice leg kick. He’s putting the pressure on Kelleher. Kelleher lands a body kick. Kelleher just about misses a high kick. Kelleher lands a huge front kick to the head. Simon counters by taking him down. Simon lands some hammer fists as he gets up from a leg lock attempt from Kelleher. Kelleher lands a leg kick but Simon is still pressuring forward. Simon lands a big right and follows it with a left. Kelleher sees his leg kick checked. Simon blitzes forward and lands a couple of leg kicks. Simon goes for another takedown and lands it. Kelleher attempts a guillotine but to no avail as he’s controlled by Simon. Kelleher gets to his feet and eventually separates as they return to striking. Kelleher lands a front kick to the body just as the round ends.

Round 3: Simon connects with a leg kick. Kelleher blocks a high kick and then misses his own. Simon throws a number of up elbows while striking. Kelleher misses a spinning elbow and sees himself controlled by Simon again who has his back up against the fence. Simon takes him down. Kelleher seems to be going for a kimura but is countered by a kimura attempt of Simon’s which causes him to scramble. Kelleher gets up but is controlled by Simon again who takes his back. They separate. Kelleher lands a front kick to the body. The fight ends.

Round 1: Pitolo takes it to Marquez right away with a leg kick followed by a barrage of other kicks as well as an uppercut. He clinches Marquez up against the fence and lands a knee. Pitolo lands an elbow and takes Marquez down soon after and controls him in the half guard. Pitolo lands a couple of hammerfists. He takes Marquez’s back and controls him as as Marquez gets back to his feet. Pitolo takes him down again but Marquez is back to his feet. Pitolo clinches him up against the fence again as he looks for a takedown. Marquez trips Pitolo and proceeds to attempt a standing guillotine. Pitolo manages to survive and escape. They return to striking momentarily after a short battle in the clinch. The round ends.

Round 2: Both fighters engage in the striking right away. Pitolo goes for the body with some jabs. He lands a leg kick. Marquez misses some overhands. Marquez lands a right hook during an exchange. Pitolo sees his high kick blocked. The fight is momentarily stopped after an accidental kick to Pitolo’s groin. The fight is resume and it’s all action as they both start to swing. Pitolo ends up controlling Marquez’s back again and takes him down. Marquez gets up on multiple occasions but Marquez remains controlled. Pitolo switches to strikes before going for a takedown and is countered by another guillotine. Pitolo escapes but is caught in another guillotine. Pitolo escapes but Marquez has his back and lands huge strikes. Pitolo sneaks off the backdoor and enters the guard of Marquez. He transitions to full mount. Marquez is able to move the position to half-guard. Pitolo lands some strikes to the side of Marquez. Marquez ends the round throwing some elbows from the bottom.

Round 3: Pitolo lands a huge leg kick. Marquez backs Pitolo up against the fence as both fighters are swinging. Marquez eats a left hook. Pitlo drops Marquez with a low kick. Marquez catches Pitolo with a right hand but Pitolo is fine. Marquez is putting the pressure on now as a cut opens on the left eye of Pitolo. Marquez lands a huge knee on Pitolo’s head as it looks like he’s hurt. Pitolo goes for a takedown. Marquez tries to counter with a guillotine but it’s too slippery as Pitolo enters his guard. Pitolo transitions to his back and looks to get the rear naked choke but Marquez suffers and now has Pitolo’s back as he starts to rain down strikes. Pitolo escapes and looks for another takedown. Marquez attempts another guillotine reversal before they separate. They clinch up soon after as Marquez eventually takes his back before hurting him with big shots. He lands a knee to Pitolo’s head with the latter going for a takedown in desperation. Marquez counters and sinks in the guillotine before transitioning to an anaconda choke and getting the tap!
