Derek Brunson has halted the surge of the #10 ranked, Kevin Holland — wrestling his way to six successful takedowns on his way to an impressive unanimous decision victory over five rounds.

Seizing on an early slip from Holland, Brunson landed a right hand, creating a scramble with the latter assuming full-guard. Dominant from the guard, Brunson managed to score a couple of ground strikes, with the North Carolina native landing with some significant power. Exchanging some words with Brunson from the bottom, Holland gave up the first round, in rather one-sided fashion.

Exchanging some words with the recently retired, Khabib Nurmagomedov who was sitting Octagon-side, Holland managed to wobble Brunson with some strikes, before the latter caught a kick and secured a second takedown. Threatening with an arm-triangle during a scramble, Brunson lost the position with a composed Holland controlling his breathing before scrambling back to his feet.

Dropping another takedown in the opening minute of the third round, Holland created another scramble after an armbar attempt, however, Brunson capitalized and assumed full guard again.

Scoring yet another takedown, Brunson, who appeared quite laboured between rounds, managed to lodge a fifth successful takedown.

Managing a takedown of his own in the first two minutes of the fifth and final round, Holland had Brunson on his back for the first time tonight. Returning to his feet, Brunson shot successfully with his sixth takedown of the night, putting Holland’s back to the Octagon fence yet again. Unanimous decision win in the book for the now four-fight streaking Brunson.

Grant Dawson has just turned in the second latest stoppage in the history of three round fights in the UFC. Landing a series of bludgeoning hammer-fists from the top against Leonardo Santos, Dawson turned in a 4:59 knockout stoppage to halt the Brazilian, leaving the judges out of the equation.

Making his divisional debut against Brazil’s Santos, Dawson improved to an eye-catching 17-1 professional, nabbing his seventh straight success to boot.

With the scorecards close to the consensus before the buzzer to signal the end of the third round and the bout as a whole, Dawson ultimately was leading the scoring on two of the three judges’ cards regardless, however, those scores weren’t needed with the 27-year-old Nebraska native securing a massive buzzer-beating stoppage.

Taking main event honours at tonight’s Fight Night event from the UFC Apex facility, a middleweight matchup with potentially top-five implications for the victor as division mainstay, Derek Brunson draws the charismatic, surging striker, Kevin Holland over five sanctioned rounds.

Attempting to lodge his fourth consecutive victory, North Carolina native, Brunson knocked back the surging Dana White‘s Contender Series alum, Edmen Shahbazyan in a short notice main event last August — finishing the Glendale Fight Club striker with a third round knockout. The victory came as the #7 ranked contender’s third on the trot, following a pair of unanimous jugding triumphs over both Ian Heinisch and Elias Theodorou.

Sitting at #10 in the official 185-pound pile, Californian finisher, Holland set a record in 2020 for the most wins for a middleweight in a calendar year, with a staggering five straight wins.

Most recently featuring in a short-notice UFC 256 appearance against common-opposition, Ronaldo Souza in December, the Travis Lutter Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt managed a stunning, innovative knockout victory over the grappling sensation — from his back. The victory following prior wins over Charlie Ontiveros, Darren Stewart, Joaquin Buckley, and Anthony Hernandez.
