LowKick MMA will be bringing you UFC Vegas 41: Costa vs. Vettori results throughout the night (Sat. 23rd. October 2021) from the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Taking main event status in a short notice light heavyweight main event, one-time middleweight title challengers, Paulo ‘Borrachinha’ Costa, and Marvin ‘The Italian Dream’ Vettori meet following a turbulent fight week that included two changes in weight to the headlining bout.

Originally, the pair were slated to headline in a middleweight matchup, until Costa confirmed on Wednesday that he would not be competing at the 186lbs middleweight limit, before offering Vettori a catchweight pairing instead.

Ultimately agreeing to meet at a 195lbs catchweight pairing, with Costa forfeiting 20% of his fight purse to the Trento native as a result.

However, prior to the weigh-ins of Friday, Costa and Vettori’s main event slot was changed to an official light heavyweight matchup, with the two tipping the scales beneath the limit on Friday morning at the UFC Apex facility.

The event will mark Costa’s first outing since September of last year at UFC 253, where he suffered a second round knockout loss to Israel Adesanya in his first title challenge under the promotion’s banner.

For Vettori, the Kings MMA mainstay headlined UFC 263 in June, dropping a second career loss to common-foe, Adesanya in the form of a unanimous decision.

Costa Is Invited To The ‘Blonde Brunson Barbecue’ After Weight Issues

Derek Brunson has given Paulo Costa an invite to the barbecue, even though he might eat all the food.

It seems like almost the entire MMA community has been frustrated with Costa this week after he took his middleweight fight with Marvin Vettori and turned it into a 195lb catchweight on fight week before adding another 10lb hours before weigh-ins. While some may consider it a power move or a heel turn, the general consensus is that it is unprofessional and disrespectful to his opponent.

While fellow middleweight contender Derek Brunson does not appear to be as heated about the situation as some, he still could not hesitate to poke some fun at Costa online. Posting to Instagram, he shared a meme that was made of Borrachina, sitting in front of a table full of food, while saying that whether he was 25lb overweight or not, he was invited to the barbecue.

“Paulo Costa aka Paulo Pasta aka Eating At All Costa showed up to fight week 25lb over weight. Welcome to the Blonde Brunson Cook-Out ???” Brunson wrote.

Brunson did not drop it there either, following this up with another post, this time to Twitter. This one seemed a little less jovial though, where he pointed out how quickly a fighter can cut six pounds, like Costa supposedly did, and openly wondering what the Brazilian’s excuse is going to be.

“I can’t wait for the Costa excuses after the fight . This man cut 6lbs during fight week. You can literally do that in 30 minutes ?” he quipped.

On the surface, this might seem like Derek Brunson putting his photoshop skills to use so he could troll Paulo Costa, but then when you consider that Blonde Brunson is on a five-fight streak and ranked number four, he could be just as easily vying for a number one contender’s fight with the winner, after his UFC 270 scrap with Jared Cannonier. Either way, it was entertaining for the fans to see.

UFC Vegas 41 went down tonight (Sat. October 23, 2021) from Las Vegas, Nevada at the UFC Apex facility and we have the results. The world’s leading mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion compiled an excellent card for fight fans to enjoy.

It was headlined by a light heavyweight meeting between Paulo Costa and Marvin Vettori.

The co-headliner saw a bout between Grant Dawson and Rick Glenn. Jessica-Rose Clark vs. Joselyne Edwards in a women’s bantamweight fight, Alex Caceres vs. Seung Woo Choi in a featherweight bout, Francisco Trinaldo vs. Dwight Grant in a welterweight bout and Nicolae Negumereanu vs. Ike Villanueva in a light heavyweight bout finished out the main card.

It was certain to have a great day of fights. Check out MMA News’ UFC Vegas 41 results below:

Paulo Costa vs. Marvin Vettori

Costa was knocked down at the start of the first round after a stumble. Costa got right back to his feet. Costa clinched with him before they separated. Vettori caught him with a nice combo. Costa landed back-to-back body kicks. Costa was breathing hard. Vettori put him up against the fence and landed a series of strikes. Vettori cracked him with a left uppercut. In the second round, Costa rocked him with a head kick then landed up with a flurry of strikes. Somehow Vettori survived. Costa did poke him in the eye. In the third round, Vettori clinched and Costa took him down, but Vettori scrambled on top in guard.  Vettori walked him down in the fourth round and blitzed him with head and body shots up against the fence. Costa did a good job of covering up. They exchanged in the fifth round to close out the fight. Vettori got the decision win.

Grant Dawson vs. Rick Glenn

Dawson went for the trip takedown and got it right away. Glenn was trying to scramble out, but Dawson ended up getting his back and worked him over with strikes. In the second round, Dawson got him down and did the exact same in the third round. In both rounds, both guys did a nice job of staying busy with strikes. Glenn tried his best to get up, but Dawson was way too strong and tied him up so Glenn had nowhere to go. With just a little over a minute to go, Glenn got on top and rained down strikes. Glenn even locked in a choke, but not enough time was left. The fight ended in a majority draw.

Jessica-Rose Clark vs. Joselyne Edwards

Clark took her down to start off the fight and got into guard. She worked her over with strikes from this position. In the second round, Clark once again took her down to the ground, but didn’t do much damage from top position. Edwards did get back to her feet as the round came to a close. Same story in the third round as Clark got another takedown and stayed on top. Edwards likely threw more shots on the bottom than Clark. Clark got the win.

Alex Caceres vs. Seung Woo Choi

The first round was wild as Choi folded him with a right hand and looked to finish, but Alex survived and when he was getting up, Choi landed a knee to the head while Alex was still down. There was a pause in the action. In the second round, Alex made a comeback and got a rear-naked choke for the win.

Francisco Trinaldo vs. Dwight Grant

They came out firing with Trinaldo moving forward. Trinaldo was throwing a lot of left head kicks. Trinaldo found his range in the latter stages of the first round and was landing. In the second round, Trinaldo threw a head kick and Grant took him down then landed some shots. Trinaldo got back to his feet. Trinaldo kicked him in the nuts then poked him in the eye. A point was taken away as a result. Trinaldo took him down after the break. Trinaldo got another takedown in the third round. Grant did land some shots, but it was mostly dominated by Trinaldo, who got the split decision win.

Nicolae Negumereanu vs. Ike Villanueva

Negumereanu clipped him early in the first round and walked him down until he caught him with a right shot behind the ear that dropped him. Negumereanu swarmed him on the ground with illegal shots to the back of the head for the TKO win.

The UFC Vegas 41 weigh-ins have come to a close, and all the issues were reserved for the build-up after every fighter made their targeted weight.

Originally, the UFC Vegas 41 main event between Paulo Costa and Marvin Vettori was slated to take place at middleweight, seeing as how they are both middleweights and all. However, due to weight issues experienced on Costa’s side, the fight was bumped up not once but twice and is now scheduled to take place at light heavyweight. There have been rumblings that Costa will not be allowed to ever compete at middleweight again at this fiasco.

If that’s the case, this bout will obviously carry far fewer title implications, at least as far as Costa is concerned. But either way, fans are in for a barnburner between these two high-energy oxen tomorrow night.

Paulo Costa & Marvin Vettori Gear Up For Forward Push

This week’s weight issues isn’t the first time Vettori has been baffled by some of Costa’s antics, but the Italian will look to place all his attention inside the cage and prove his doubters wrong tomorrow night. Vettori has shared why he personally handpicked Costa for this bout. The public will soon learn if that selection will pay off for The Italian Dream.

Like Vettori, Paulo Costa will be looking to bounce back from a loss to Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya in this main event. That bout was the only time Costa has suffered defeat in his MMA career. Is the Brazilian a broken shell of himself after experiencing his first setback? Or will he continue to press forward as he is accustomed to doing in battle?

Our Doug Murray provided his own prediction and preview for tomorrow night’s main event, which you can find right here.

Tomorrow’s headliners came face to face after hitting the scales in what can be described as a heated interaction. Peep it out for yourself below.

In tomorrow night’s co-main event, fans will be treated to a lightweight scrap between Grant Dawson and Rick Glenn. The 27-year-old Dawson is undefeated in the UFC with a 5-0 promotional record. He will be facing an opponent with more MMA experience than any of his previous opponents, the 32-year-old Rick Glenn. In his most recent bout, Glenn knocked out Brazilian Joaquim Silva in the very first round. Check out the face-off between Dawson and Glenn below.

UFC Vegas 41 takes place Saturday, October 23, 2021 from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada. Below, you can find the full weigh-in results, fight lineup, and viewing information for tomorrow night’s UFC Vegas 41 card, courtesy of UFC.com!
