Mayra Bueno Silva positive drug test return after UFC Vegas 77 win Holly Holm ADHD medication

Surging bantamweight contender, Mayra Bueno Silva has announced on her official social media tonight, that she has been notified of a failed drug test return, in relation to an in-competition test sample submitted ahead of her UFC Vegas 78 headliner with former champion, Holly Holm back in July.

Bueno Silva, the current number three ranked bantamweight contender, headlined UFC Vegas 78 back in July against former undisputed division champion, Holm, submitting the Albuquerque native with a second round ninja choke, which came as her fourth consecutive victory.

However, tonight, the Brazilian challenger has confirmed she has been notified of a positive drug test result she had submitted, pointing to ADHD medication she utilizes, and pleading her innocence in a statement released.

“It is with deep regret that I have to announce I failed a drug test that I took the week of my fight against Holly Holm,” Mayra Bueno Silva wrote. “I want to begin by saying I have never in my life taken a substance to enhance my ability in or outside the cage. I have tested positive for a substance that is consistent with the prescription medication I take for my ADHD. I have been dealing with this disorder my entire life and it affects me in a multitude of ways.”

“I have provided a plethora of documents and explanations to USADA and the Nevada State Athletic Commission detailing the disorder, the effects of the disorder on my daily life and my decision making in the ingestion of the prescription medicine. I am fully cooperating with USADA, the Nevada State Athletic Commission and the UFC to make sure that all information is available and I fully acknowledge the presence of the subctance in my system.”

“I discontinued this medication at the beginning of the fight week, like I always have in the past. So while it appeared in a small amount in my system, I am told by experts that it would not have an effect on my in-competition performance at that level.”

“Please, before you make any judgements, understand that I have been dealing with this my whole life and I am devastated that this has happened in my career,” Mayra Bueno Silva continued. “I look forward to coming to a resolution and putting this behind me. I look forward to fighting again for the best organization in the world. I am the next champion and I am ready to fight.”

While Mayra Bueno Silva is likely to have the most high-profile victory of her UFC tenure overturned in the form of her submission win over Holm, the NSAC are scheduled to hold a disciplinary hearing for the Brazilian on Thursday this week.

Bueno Silva is expected to be granted a temporary suspension with a sanctioning ruling expected to then be announced in the future at a subsequent commission meeting.

An alum of ONE Championship, Brazilian strawweight, Nunes suffered her stunning fourth consecutive Octagon loss in last night’s defeat to Dudakova, however, the former was forced to stop the contest after dislocating her left elbow inside just 34-seconds of the opening round.

Slumping to 6-5 as a professional throughout her 11 fight professional career, Istela Nunes rolled during a grappling scramble with Dudakova, landing on her elbow and back, hyperextending the limb and appearing to suffer a nasty dislocation of the appendage

“I have a lot of messages,” Istela Nunes wrote. “Thank you all so much for your support and love. I’ll respond to everyone when I get home. Thank you to all my fans. I felt very good and very strong. I prepared a lot for this fight. I knew today was my night, this was my fight. But I will come back stronger and show you all again. Thank you UFC. And thank you Dana White.”

Prior to her loss to Dudakova last night, Nunes had dropped stoppage losses to both Ariane Carnelossi, as well as Yazmin Jauregui, in between a loss to Sam Hughes in a decision blemish.

Istela Nunes is without a win since 2018

Nunes’ most recent win came under the banner of the Chatri Sityodtong-led ONE Championship banner, defeating Gina Inlong in a decision victory back in 2018.

Off the back of last night’s high-profile victory over former bantamweight champion, Holly Holm in her inaugural headlining clash under the UFC banner, Mayra Bueno Silva has vowed to “smash” former division queen, Julianna Peña – with the weight class still without a champion.

Turning in a blistering win over veteran former bantamweight champion, Holm in her first main event slot inside the Octagon, Minas Gerais native, Silva locked up an inverted standing guillotine choke on the Albuquerque native at the fence in the second round, forcing a tap on the feet.

The win came as Silva, the current number 10 ranked bantamweight contender’s fourth consecutively since her return to the bantamweight limit, following prior wins over Wu Yanan, and submission stoppages of Stephanie Egger, and Lina Lansberg.

In response to Mayra Bueno Silva’s stunning win over former champion, Holm, another former bantamweight titleholder, the aforenoted, Peña – who has been linked with a vacant title clash against Raquel Pennington, claimed she would defeat both the latter and Silva on the same night.

“Did I hear someone say the name of the #PeoplesChamp?” Julianna Peña tweeted. “Perfetc, get in line. I’ll do you and Raquel (Pennington) in the same night. Who else wants a beating?”

“She’s scared,” Mayra Bueno Silva told assembled media following UFC Vegas 77. “She’s funny. I love you, Julianna (Peña). But I will smash you. Look ay my fight, look at your fight. Oh, Julianna, shut up.”

Hitting her stride inside the Octagon in the wake of her bantamweight division rebirth, over the course of her professional career, the now 11-2-1 Silva has landed a whopping eight separate submission stoppages, landing victories over the likes of Gillian Robertson, and Mara Romero Borella before her current winning streak.

Chelsea Chandler runs from Norma Dumont at UFC Vegas 77 gets meme'd instantly

Appearing in the news cycle earlier this week following claims from her that rumors have been suggesting a featherweight return to the UFC for ex-champion, Ronda Rousey, division challenger, Chelsea Chandler has found herself in the headlines again – with fans and social media users laughing at her decision to run from Norma Dumont during last night’s clash.

Chandler, an alum of the Shannon Knapp-led Invicta FC, had made a successful debut inside the Octagon back in October of last year, landing a first round TKO win over Julija Stoliarenko at the UFC Apex facility.

Returning to the same venue for last night’s high-stakes clash with perennial contender, Dumont last night, Chelsea Chandler slumped to 5-2 as a professional, dropping a unanimous decision loss to the Brazilian championship hopeful.

Chelsea Chandler was on the receiving end of meme treatment on social media

However, receiving flak and subsequent meme treatment across social media, within the opening minute of the first round, Chandler was clipped with a heavy shot from Dumont, before the Stockton native turned on her heels and openly sprinted from side of the Octagon to the other, actually colliding into an advertising panel while the former gave pursuit.

Earlier in the week during her media availability, Chandler claimed that inaugural bantamweight champion, Rousey was in line for a return to the Octagon – in a rumored featherweight division debut for the former titleholder, however, as a result, rumors were firmly put to bed with Rousey currently “not considering” what would be a stunning comeback to the UFC

Riding an impressive five-fight winning run into last night’s UFC Vegas 77 clash with Dumont, Chandler had picked up a notable TKO win over Brittney Victoria, before submitting Olivia Parker with a rear-naked choke under the Invicta FC banner.

Mayra Bueno Silva shocked fans inside The APEX on Saturday night, scoring a second-round submission victory over former bantamweight world champion Holly Holm at UFC Vegas 77.

The opening five minutes were fairly competitive with Bueno Silva attempting to walk down Holm and land heavy strikes on ‘The Preacher’s Daughter’ in hopes of scoring an early highlight-reel knockout. Despite Bueno Silva’s best efforts on the feet, Holm managed to land more strikes in the first five minutes.

Coming out for the second round, Holm looked to close the distance early, pressing her opponent against the fence, but she mistakenly gave up her neck while shooting in for a single leg. Bueno Silva locked in a standing guillotine choke and put the squeeze on Holm, forcing the former bantamweight queen to tap out less than a minute into the second round of their main event clash.

Official Result: Mayra Bueno Silva def. Holly Holm submission (standing guillotine choke) via 0:38 of Round 2.

The victory over Holy represented Bueno Silva’s third-straight win by way of submission and moves her to 6-2-1 inside the Octagon. ‘Sheetara’ could now be next in line for a bantamweight title opportunity, having defeated the No. 3 ranked 135-pounder in the world.
