With three high-profile fights instead of just one, the UFC’s second foray onto network television is shaping up to be much more successful than its first.

While none of the fights has the intrigue of a heavyweight title fight, dual No. 1 contender fights and a matchup between two middleweights attempting to break into the title scene is more than enough to make up for the lack of title bouts.

Rashad Evans, Phil Davis, Chael Sonnen and Michael Bisping have all done an excellent job of providing some hype for the upcoming bouts, and with the high stakes involved for both fights, this card is shaping up to be one of the most memorable in UFC history.

Putting yourself in Dana White‘s doghouse generally means you can kiss your UFC career goodbye. Or does it?

Not necessarily, according to White’s interview with Michael David Smith of MMAFighting.com. The UFC president spoke about two fighters in particular that have been removed from the UFC roster—Nate Marquardt and Anthony Johnson.

In regards to Johnson, White was adamant that Johnson needed to work on his career before making a return to the UFC.

“He needs to prove to me that he can be a professional, show up on weight and do the things he needs to do. If he does, we can talk.”

White doesn’t seem very sympathetic, given the stories about Johnson’s reported health concerns leading up to him missing weight.

Although White is quick to dismiss a “Return of the Rumble,” he was quick to suggest that Marquardt could find himself in the Octagon soon.

“I don’t dislike Nate,” White said. “I like Nate very much. We’ll see what happens.”

White was furious with Marquardt’s medical issues that lead to him being released. So furious, in fact, that White didn’t bother to let people know via an official press release that Marquardt was handed his walking papers.

I, like many people, were critical of Johnson’s weight issues, but Marquardt has had his fair share of troubles. Between the steroid/PED issues and some dirty fighting at times, Marquardt certainly has a rap sheet in the MMA world.

It certainly seems like White feels it’s more important for fighters to be on weight than to be worried about what they do to their bodies.

For weeks now, the animosity between Rashad Evans and Phil Davis has been building, eventually culminating into a main event showdown between the two competitors this Saturday at UFC on FOX 2.

A victory over Davis will finally give Evans the opportunity to challenge UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

While discussing his bout to MMAWeekly.com, Evans commented on the possibility of getting the win over Davis and earning a potential title shot; however, Evans is more concerned with putting on a good performance.

“It’s not like it’s the first time I’ve been promised to get a title shot, I’ve been promised a lot, so I just want to go in there and fight hard for the UFC, and if the stars align and I get a title shot, then great,” Evans said.

While the rivalry between Evans and Davis might be based solely on the competitive nature of the sport, Evans’ bad blood with Jones goes much further than that.

“Suga” was aware that Jones was rooting for him this weekend and Evans said he expects the 24-year-old champion to be prepared as much as he is because it’s a fight they both want.

“Yeah I believe he wants the fight to happen,” he said. “He wants to get it over with as much as I do. He’s probably getting tired of people talking about Rashad Evans, he can’t go anywhere without people talking about me, so I’m sure he wants to get it over with as much as I do.”

UFC on FOX 2 is already upon us, and, despite a last minute injury, the world’s premiere MMA organization has come through with a pretty solid main card.

First up, veteran Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace Demian Maia takes on rising prospect Chris Weidman, who was gutsy enough to take this bout on just 11 days notice.

Maia’s original opponent, Michael Bisping, will not be taking on Chael Sonnen in a middleweight title eliminator after Mark Munoz suffered a serious elbow injury less than two weeks before the event.

In the main event, “Mr. Wonderful” Phil Davis takes on perennial light heavyweight contender Rashad “Suga” Evans, to likely decide who is next for 205-pound champion Jon “Bones” Jones.

Bleacher Report MMA Featured Columnists Jordy McElroy, Dwight Wakabayashi, Jeffrey McKinney, Dale De Souza and myself, John Heinis, will be breaking the fights down this week.

Take a look inside for the in-depth predictions.
