On the eve of the Academy Awards, the UFC is showing “The Social Network” some love.

For UFC 127 in Sydney, which airs live on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. Eastern Saturday in the States with the time difference, the promotion is returning to Facebook, as well as the Ion Network, for a total of five preliminary card fights. The formation of Facebook is the crux of “The Social Network,” one of the most critically acclaimed films of 2010 – and nominated for eight Oscars on Sunday.

The UFC announced on its Facebook fan page Monday that bouts between Jason Reinhardt and Tiequan Zhang and Tom Blackledge and Anthony Perosh will stream live at Facebook. Fans must “like” the UFC on Facebook to gain access to the prelims at the site. The UFC currently has nearly 4.8 million fans at the social networking giant.

Volkmann, whose post-fight interview with MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani has garnered more mainstream attention than perhaps any fight interview in years, told Helwani on “The MMA Hour” Monday that he doesn’t regret his criticism of the president, even though it earned him a visit from the Secret Service. Well, mostly he has no regrets.

“I have an opinion and I have the right to say my opinion – and there’s no regrets of what I said,” Volkmann said. “The only regret I have is calling him an idiot. I don’t think he’s an idiot, but I do think he’s making a lot of mistakes.”
