The Karate girl, Michelle Waterson, really made a name for herself when she convincingly defeated Paige VanZant early in their fight last year. The Karate girl, Michelle Waterson, really made a name for herself when she convincingly defeated Paige VanZant early in their fight last year. This victory is what really made her popular with the fans, and all of Endeavor (which was WME – IMG back then) fell in love with the Karate diva. The demand for the fighter was good enough for the UFC to take notice and the UFC certainly did not hold back. They made their intentions clear and pursued her the way in which they usually only do for established stars of the sport.

Waterson certainly has proved her money’s worth in terms of the viewership she attracts since her move to the coveted UFC and come UFC 218, she will be put to the real test now as she faces Tecia Torres in the octagon for what is going to be a fight to remember. It has not always been smooth sailing for Waterson in the UFC though, in fact, her debut did not go anything like planned at all as she was humbled by ex – title contender Rose Namajunas. This way, Waterson went from being in the form of her career to hitting the lowest of lows in her career in one single fight.

Given her popularity, you would expect that the UFC hand her a fight wherein she can bounce back, but it seems like the UFC may have lost interest in Waterson as they throw her away to Tecia Torres. Torres is not exactly a fan favorite, but she has always been consistent with results and always been one of the top few fighters in the strawweight division since she fought in the Invicta FC.

We cannot see how Waterson can overcome this challenge, she likes to strike, and Torres will out clinch her.

UFC Fight Night 217 – Stephen Thompson Vs. Jorge Masvidal

For anyone who is a fan, this UFC Fight Night 217 bout is going to be of high entertainment value. The two fighters have very different styles. On one hand we have a Karateka with flair and on the other end of the ring is an experienced boxer with some serious hands and skills. If that is not a great setup for an entertaining fight, we don’t know what is.

Entertainment value aside, this fight is a serious one for both fighters and there is a lot at stake. They are both at pivotal points in their fighting careers and this is one of those make or break fights that will determine a lot going forward. Sadly, only one fighter can come out on top. Stephen Thompson is pretty up high in the rankings, but surprisingly he has actually not won a fight since last year. He did get a couple of big chances to make a mark this year, but was not really able to capitalize on them. The pressure is now on for him and he will have to really get this one in the bag or he will start slipping very quickly indeed.

Jorge Masvidal, has been walking a fine line so far. He has had a good share of wins, but has failed to really string together a decent winning streak so far and hence has never been able to really progress up the rankings. It’s only one of them that can hang on to their spot after fight night 217, the question is – who is it going to be?

Thompson is the more experienced fighter and is the favorite here, but Masvidal is a master tactician that can adapt to different opponents. We will have to side with Thompson here. His striking is nearly flawless and we don’t see how Masvidal can fend him off for too long.

UFC Fight Night 217 – Coby Garbrandt Vs. TJ Dillashaw

TJ Dillashaw is the apple of the eye of Team Alpha Male who, before him, had struggled to bring home titles despite valiant efforts from some of the best fighter in the industry. In 2014, Dillashaw got the better of Renan Barao and got a chance at the bantamweight title, however, nobody predicted that he […]

TJ Dillashaw is the apple of the eye of Team Alpha Male who, before him, had struggled to bring home titles despite valiant efforts from some of the best fighter in the industry. In 2014, Dillashaw got the better of Renan Barao and got a chance at the bantamweight title, however, nobody predicted that he would be able to outdo gym mate Urijah Faber in the title fight. Against all odds, Dillashaw came out on top and that was the beginning of a rift that has now split the gym right down the middle.

Dillashaw then moved on and joined Elevation Fight Team. He had to defend his belt two times and did so successfully before he came up against Dominick Cruz who proved to be too much to handle. Faber came by even tougher times and even retired after consecutive losses.

Meanwhile, Coby Garbrandt was steadily growing and established himself as the top fighter coming out of the Alpha Male gym. This fight is going to certainly have a personal aspect to it. Team Alpha Male refer to Dillashaw as the snake in the grass and will want nothing more than to see Garbrandt beat him. However, Dillashaw will be just as hungry and will certainly want to show the Alpha Male team what he is made of.

It is a really tough one to call, Garbrandt has been in excellent form recently. He has looked sharp and confident. Taking on Cruz is no walk in the park, but he was able to make it look easy. How till things turn out when he comes up against Dillashaw at UFC Fight Night 217? Our prediction is a victory for Dillashaw.

UFC Fight Night 119: Francisco Trinaldo Vs. Jim Miller

Trinaldo will have home soil advantage coming into his fight against Jim Miller at UFC fight night 119 and he may certainly need it considering the kind of experience the veteran Miller has under his belt. Trinaldo will have home soil advantage coming into his fight against Jim Miller at UFC fight night 119 and he may certainly need it considering the kind of experience the veteran Miller has under his belt. Francisco Trinaldo, however, is on an all-time high in terms of confidence and has been seriously moving up spots in the lightweight ranking. He has been on a roll and has posted impressive victories against impressive opponents such as Paul Felder, Yancy Medeiros and Ross Pearson. Trinaldo has already established himself as a serious contender, but some people think he is yet to meet his match. Will Miller be the one to put the brakes on Trinaldo’s victory train?

Miller certainly is a weathered fighter, but age is no longer in his favor. Depsite being a bit over the hill in terms of age, Miller has always been an exciting fighter that is lively, entertaining and sometimes downright dangerous. Miller’s recent form has not been great as he has suffered losses at the hands of Dustin Poirier and Anthony Pettis, but nevertheless, this should be a close fight.

In terms of predictions, we would have gone with Miller if this fixture happened maybe a year or two ago, but we must concede that Miller’s best days are behind him. Trinaldo will have home support and will be full of confidence, we predict he will come out on top in this match up.

UFC Fight Night 119: Pedro Munhoz Vs. Rob Font

The bantamweight division might be seeing quite a bit of a shuffle up as the fringe top – 10 bantamweights edge ever so close to the bantamweight title, but they will need to face each other first. Pedro Munhoz will face off against American Rob Font in an interesting matchup at UFC Fight Night 119. […]

Munhoz is all about Jiu-Jitsu and is a Jiu-Jitsu blackbelt who trains with the highly revered Black House.

Munhoz has been training hard and working on getting his striking on point from what we know and hopefully this will reflect in his fight against Font. So far, Munhoz has only been beaten by top 10 competitors Jimmie Rivera and Raphael Assuncao.

Moving onto Font, he holds a record of 14 – 2 and is known for being a powerful striker who not only can generate great force with his set of heavy hands, but also has very polished technique which makes him lethal at times. Font signed his UFC contract back in 2014 itself just like Munhoz, but has had an injury riddled career so far and ergo has not been as actively competing as Munhoz.

Both fighters are going to be coming into this fight with a solid game plan, and will have studied each other’s strengths and weaknesses without omitting any details. Munhoz will be the favorite though considering he has more experience under his belt and that Font may not be at 100% yet.

Coming to the prediction, it is going to be competitive and in fact, it could get neck to neck, but our money is on Munhoz for this one.

UFC Fight Night 119: Demian Maia Vs. Colby Covington

Apart from the UFC Fight Night 119 highlight fixture between the returning Machida and the underrated Brunson, another fight which has all eyes on it is the one between Demian Maia vs. Colby Covington. Apart from the UFC Fight Night 119 highlight fixture between the returning Machida and the underrated Brunson, another fight which has all eyes on it is the one between Demian Maia vs. Colby Covington. This fight matters substantially in terms of how things shape up going forward in the welterweight division. Maia is coming off the back of a title loss and will be hungry to get back to winning ways.

On the other hand, Colby Covington is not as experienced, but has certainly shown a lot of promise and potential and is a serious contender. Both fighters are grapplers, but that is where the similarities end. Both have very contrastingly different styles and that should make it an interesting matchup indeed.

On one hand we have Maia, who is an experienced top – notch Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu blackbelt that has put some of the best fighters in the world into unforgiving submissions and forced them to tap out. And then, there is Covington who is not exactly a gracious fighter and relies mostly on sheer brute strength and muscle power. Covington should be riding a high confidence wave coming into this match up. Covington loves to take down his opponents to the mat and then subject them to the classic ground and pound. Despite the fact that Maia lost his most recent outing, he has been in pretty good form otherwise and is 4 – 1 in his last five fights. For Covington, a win here will mean a possible chance a title fight and so he has a lot riding on the outcome of this fight.

Predicting this one is not going to be easy, the styles at play are rather contrasting, but Maia has been able to handle guys like Covington in the past and he should be able to come out on top here. We are going to go with Covington to win by decision.
