As he burst onto the scene of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 18 with an explosive striking skillset, Uriah “Prime Time” Hall was being dubbed as the next Anderson Silva.

Fast forward three years and Hall will actually step into the Octagon with the man he was once compared to, the man many consider to be amongst the greatest mixed martial artists of all-time.

The UFC has confirmed that Silva and Hall will indeed do battle at May 14’s UFC 198 from “The Spider’s” home of Curitiba, Brazil live on pay-per-view.

Despite his illustrious career, Silva has fallen on rough times since losing his title to Chris Weidman at UFC 162 in 2013. He would go on to gruesomely break his leg in the rematch at UFC 168, putting him on the sidelines for nearly a year.

The former champion then returned to action in January 2015, scoring a win over Nick Diaz. That win was later changed to a no-contest, however, after Silva failed a drug test, putting him out of action for yet another year.

After serving his suspension, “The Spider” took on long-time veteran Michael Bisping last month in London, losing a somewhat controversial split-decision, making the all-time great essentially winless since 2012.

Hall, on the other hand, picked up a super impressive stoppage win over former Strikeforce champion Gegard Mousasi last September, but then dropped a short notice decision to Robert Whittaker in November.

A battle between two of the division’s best strikers, Silva vs. Hall is a nice edition to an already compelling card.

Heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum will put his title on the line against Stipe Miocic in the main event, and top 185-pound contenders Ronald “Jacare” Souza and Vitor Belfort will clash in the evening’s co-main event.

The UFC confirmed a recent report for UFC 198, making Anderson Silva vs. Uriah Hall official.

Silva vs. Hall is added to the May 14 event from inside the Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Brazil that features Fabricio Werdum vs. Stipe Miocic for the heavyweight title.

Also, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza battles Vitor Belfort in the co-main event and former light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua takes on Corey Anderson.

The 40-year-old Silva (33-7) is coming off a decision loss to Michael Bisping last month in England. “The Spider” has not scored an official victory since a 2012 TKO vs. Stephan Bonnar in Brazil, which was also the last time he competed in his home country.

Silva’s name is atop several UFC records, including most finishes (14), most finishes in the middleweight division (10), most consecutive wins (16), longest win streak (16) and most knockdowns (17).

Hall (12-6) had his two-fight win streak snapped by Robert Whittaker in November. The Ultimate Fighter finalist, who was compared to Silva after a highlight-reel knockout on the show by UFC president Dana White, had finished Gegard Mousasi and Oluwale Bamgbose as part of a five-fight calendar year in 2015.

Following a loss to Kelvin Gastelum in the finals of TUF, Hall was bested by John Howard. He went on to win three in a row over Chris Leben, Thiago Santos and Ron Stallings before losing a split decision to Rafael Natal.

Anderson Silva Could Have An Insane Fight Coming At UFC 198

News came tonight (Wed., March 16, 2016) that Invicta FC featherweight champ Cris “Cyborg” Justino might be making her UFC debut at the stacked UFC 198 pay-per-view from Curitiba, Brazil on May 14, but now word has risen that the card may be getting an even bigger fight.

A report surfaced from Sherdog that longtime former middleweight champion Anderson Silva will potentially face fellow flashy striker Uriah Hall on the suddenly blockbuster event from Brazil. The most decorated 185-pound fighter in MMA history, ‘The Spider’ had repeatedly looked for a bout at UFC 198 in his native land after a narrow and controversial decision loss to Michael Bisping on February 27 left a bad taste in his mouth.

Fights with Gegard Mousasi and Tim Kennedy were discussed but never came to fruition, and it was thought that the lack of opponents would force Silva to sit off the card he wanted so badly to be a part of. Silva owns many of the more prominent records in UFC history, such as most consecutive wins, most finishes, most successful title defenses, most consecutive title defenses, most finishes in title fights, and most knockdowns.

However, he’s lost three out of his last four bouts with one no contest due to multiple failed drug tests, and he just hasn’t looked anything like his dominant self since his changing-of-the-guard knockout loss to Chris Weidman at July 2013’s UFC 162.

Hall, meanwhile, will look to rebound from a decision loss to the rising Robert Whittaker at last November’s UFC 193. Prior to the defeat, he had scored two straight knockout finishes over Mousasi and Oluwale Bamgbose. Long thought to be on the 185-pound division’s most dangerous potential contenders, Hall has exhibited significant inconsistencies in compiling a 5-4 overall UFC record.

Despite the up-and-down tenure in the Octagon, however, “Primetime” has the technique, skills, and power to knock out any middleweight in the UFC, making a match with Silva potentially one of the most exciting bouts the UFC could book on paper.

Uriah Hall just might have hit the jackpot thanks to his win over Gegard Mousasi.

Or it might be a nightmare.

According to a report by Sherdog, the former Ultimate Fighter finalist and Anderson Silva are headed to a meeting at UFC 198 this May in Brazil. The event is set to take place inside a soccer stadium with Fabricio Werdum defending his heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic.

Silver was bested by Michael Bisping recently, returning from a year-long suspension after his fight in 2015 with Nick Diaz. The former UFC middleweight champion has not won a fight since besting Stephan Bonnar in 2012, which was also the last time he competed in Brazil.

Hall (12-6) went 3-2 over five 2015 appearances, including his win over Mousasi. Last September, he finished the former Strikeforce champion with a flying knee in the second round. Overall, he is 5-4 in nine Octagon appearances.

Despite not competing in the cage since a quick KO loss to Travis Browne in December of 2013, Barnett showed up to the contest looking to be in the best shape of his life, and it paid benefits over the course of the five round affair. “The Warmaster” set a UFC heavyweight record 146 significant strikes and UFC record 95 significant clinch strikes en route to a decision victory over “Big Country,” who you can guarantee got screwed out of a performance bonus by his good buddy Dana White when all was said and done.

In the co-main event of the evening, Uriah Hall tried to make it two in a row over heavy favorite Gegard Mousasi, who was riding back-to-back wins over Dan Henderson and Costas Philippou. Save a slick kimura from guard attempt by Hall, the opening frame was absolutely dominated by the smart ground work of Sweet Sassy Moo-sassy (nickname pending), who nearly finished Hall with an arm triangle and rear-naked choke at the beginning and end of the round.

Of course, all second rounds start on the feet, as they say (citation needed), and Hall took full advantage of that, unleashing a jumping, spinning headkick to flying knee combo that was totally ninja, as Sterling Archer might call it. A few follow-up punches sealed the deal on what would’ve easily been the greatest comeback of the night, if not for…

Keita. Nakamura. Ladies. And. Gent. Le. Men.

Winless in his first three promotional appearances between 2006-2008, Keita Nakamura fought and scraped his way back to the UFC with four straight finishes under the DEEP banner. Unfortunately, two and a half rounds into his fight with Li Jingliang yesterday, it looked as if that goose egg would remain in his win column. Nakamura had been dominated on the ground, rocked on the feet, and all around outworked by “The Leech”…right up until he snatched up a rear-naked choke that caused Jingliang to face plant on the mat in one of the most brutal “Did He Died?” moments in recent memory.

Nakamura was awarded a $50,000 performance bonus for his efforts, and improves to 31-6 overall.

In the night’s quickest performance, Diego Brandao tore through Katsunori Kikuno in less than 30 seconds, obliterating the local legend with a pair of well-placed right hands that left Kikuno turtled up against the fence. Not much to take away from this fight, really, other than two things we already knew:

1.) Diego Brandao is deadly in the first five minutes.

2.) Kikuno really, *really* needs to abandon this “leave your hands at your sides and dare his opponent to KO him” style of stand-up.
