Yesterday the MMA world was dealt some surprising news when Fabricio Werdum was flagged for failing a USADA drug test.

The potential violation put an end to his upcoming bout with Alexey Oleynik at September 15’s UFC Moscow, a fight that had been reported only a day before.

The news was followed by the predictable callout from welterweight trash talker Colby Covington and an insistence from Werdum’s manager Ali Abdelaziz that “Vai Cavalo” had not used any banned substances. Werdum also issued his own response later on, posting on Instagram that he was working with the UFC and USADA to figure out just what happened, as he is and always has been a proponent of a clean sport:

“Hey guys, I got up this morning to the news that one of my urine samples from April tested positive for a prohibited substance. I am working with my team, the UFC and USADA to understand what happened. I’ve always been careful with everything I take and I’ve always supported a clean sport. We will work hard to solve this misunderstanding and I hope soon to be able to go back to the octagon and do what I love.”

???????????? USADA has been tasked with the all-encompassing cleaning of the sport since 2015, resulting in the suspension of many fighters.

But several have fought their cases and won due to tainted supplements and/or other reasons, as big names such as Josh Barnett, Junior dos Santos, Yoel Romero, and Tim Means have all been given lightened suspensions or absolution after going through a rigorous process to prove their innocence.

Most fighters claim they are innocent after a failed drug test, however, so we’ll have to wait and see Werdum’s individual case shakes out. For what it’s worth, the former heavyweight champion has never been suspended for PED use in the past.

Colby Covington Destroys Fabricio Werdum For Failing USADA Drug Test

Here’s a surprise.

The post Colby Covington Destroys Fabricio Werdum For Failing USADA Drug Test appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

He may have been reported to headline UFC Moscow just yesterday, but former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum saw that fight fall apart when news broke he had failed a USADA drug test earlier today.

Details were scant about the Brazilian veteran’s potential violation, as his manager, Ali Abdelaziz, stated they had not yet been informed Werdum had been pulled from his reported bout with Alexey Oleynik at the UFC’s first trip to Russia on September 15 and that he had not used any illegal substance.

The gears are still churning in that regard, but one of Werdum’s outside-the-cage enemies, not surprisingly, took to social media shortly after the news broke to call him out.

UFC interim welterweight title challenger Colby Covington, who had his own highly publicized beef with Werdum at last November’s UFC Sydney that resulted in “Vai Cavalo” being arrested for throwing a boomerang at Chaos,’ called the former champion a ‘slimeball’ for allegedly using performance-enhancing drugs:

While it’s hardly a surprise to hear Covington call Werdum out – he’s called out nearly every prominent name in MMA since his win over Demian Maia last October – this one is actually involving someone he has a legitimate beef with, making it all the more enticing.

Covington is building a name for himself by talking as much trash as he can, and it’s working.

As for Werdum, he’s now caught in the wheels of justice, and when that comes to USADA, the wheels can tend to move slowly.

Stay tuned.

Fabricio Werdum Flagged For Potential Anti-Doping Violation

It appears as if UFC Moscow is already in need of a new main event:

Just yesterday (May 21, 2018), it was reported that a heavyweight fight between former UFC champion Fabricio Werdum and veteran contender Alexey Oleynik would serve as the main event of UFC Moscow, which is set to take place on September 15 at the Olympic Stadium in Moscow, Russia.

Now, however, it has been announced that Werdum has been flagged by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) for a potential anti-doping violation.

The UFC released the following statement regarding the situation:

The UFC organization was notified today that the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) has informed Fabricio Werdum of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation stemming from an out-of-competition sample collected on April 25, 2018.

USADA, the independent administrator of the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, will handle the results management and appropriate adjudication of this case involving Werdum. Under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full and fair legal process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed. Additional information will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward.

It’s currently unclear what exactly the Brazilian tested positive for, but as always, he will be afforded due process.

The 41-year-old Werdum is coming off of a knockout loss to Alexander Volkov this past March in London, England. Prior to that, he had won back-to-back fights over the likes of Walt Harris and Marcin Tybura.

Jon Jones Is So Bored He’ll Snapchat Fan’s Grandma

Jon Jones is choosing a strange – and creepy – way to occupy his time.

Jon Jones is finding new and ‘creative’ ways to bide his time.

The suspended former UFC light heavyweight champion is awaiting his official suspension from USADA after testing positive for anabolic steroid Turinabol in conjunction with his knockout win over Daniel Cormier in the main event of last summer’s UFC 214, a failure which ‘Bones’ swears he is innocent for (again).

While he does so, he’s staying active on social media to keep his name in the news, and he did just that with an unofficial fan Q&A last night. Not surprisingly, things got a little weird courtesy of a U.K.-based fan who told ‘Bones’ he had just told his grandma about him and she now wanted to FaceTime with the former champ:

Jones responded quickly, somewhat creepily asking if the fan’s grandmother was single:

The fan was apparently ecstatic to hear Jones’ interest in his grandma, offering his ‘permission’ for the disgraced would-be legend to pursue her:

Jones then confirmed he would speak to the granny on Snapchat by telling his all-too-eager fan to send him her account details:

As expected, the back-and-forth prompted a lovely exchange of mostly hateful dialect directed at both Jones and the fan, which of course the fan responded to nearly every one.

Welcome to the Internet, folks. It’s a strange place.

As for Jones, we still don’t know when we’ll see him back in the cage, but he could be facing a rather lengthy suspension for his third failed drug test in as many years.
