The last couple of weeks have featured perhaps the most media coverage of Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino’s decorated and controversial MMA career.

The former Invicta FC featherweight champion was first littered throughout MMA headlines for her continued discontent with her employers at the UFC, whom she had continuously pleaded with for a title bout against current Invicta champ Megan Anderson at July 29’s UFC 214 from Anaheim, California.

Then came the UFC fighter retreat and her highly publicized confrontation with women’s strawweight Angela Magana after “Her Majesty” repeatedly mocked her online, which ended with Cyborg charged with battery after she punched Magana and it was caught on video. With Dana White stating the UFC was looking into the “very serious” charges, Cyborg’s fighting future was more up in the air than it ever has been.

And today, we find out that, for whatever reason, Cyborg won’t be battling Anderson, at least not at UFC 214. News came from MMA Fighting that Anderson will take on Invicta newcomer Helena Kolesnyk in the main event of Invicta FC 24 on July 15 from the Scottish Rite Temple in Kansas City, Missouri. Kolesnyk is an unbeaten prospect with a 5-0 (1) record.

Cyborg reacted to the booking by wishing Anderson luck (via MMA Mania):

“I wish Megan good luck. The fact she is fighting an undefeated 5-0 fighter at 145 proves there are women I could have been fighting in the UFC at 145 pounds the entire time I’ve been signed to the promotion instead of undersized girls being forced up a weight class once they’ve suffered a few losses at 135.”

She may have a good point, but at this point it’s still uncertain when Cyborg will fight in the octagon next. The UFC is reportedly looking into her fighting former bantamweight title challenger Cat Zingano at some point this year, but nothing has been made official.

Overall, it’s a mild surprise to see Anderson, who won the Invicta 145-pound title by defeating Charmaine Tweet after Justino vacated it in March to continue pursuing UFC glory, as it appeared an obvious choice without a true top-level female featherweight to fight Cyborg, especially with current women’s featherweight champion Germaine de Randamie refusing to fight her as she ponders a return to bantamweight.

As we’ve seen with Cyborg, nothing ever appears easy in her quest to finally hold a UFC belt, and that picture just got a little cloudier today.

Anderson Silva’s fighting future is currently quite unclear.

The 41-year-old former longtime middleweight kingpin, who’s coming off of a decision victory over Derek Brunson at UFC 208 this past February in Brooklyn, was scheduled to take on rising contender Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 212 on June 3, 2017 in Brazil, but Gastelum was forced to withdraw from the bout after being flagged by USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) for an anti-doping violation.

Silva recently announced that he had ended his training camp and that he would not fighting at UFC 212, while hinting at a possible retirement in the process.

Today (May 9, 2017), however, Silva was called out by No. 12-ranked Uriah Hall on Twitter:

Silva and Hall were scheduled to do battle at UFC 198 in Brazil last year, but “The Spider” was forced out of the bout after suffering a gall bladder injury.

Hall has hit some rough times as of late, losing three straight bouts to the likes of Robert Whittaker, Brunson and Gegard Mousasi, but he remains an exciting fighter and a known name. He may represent the perfect challenge for Silva at this stage of the Brazilian’s career.

Is this a fight you’d like to see?

Former longtime UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva was set to take on rising contender Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 212 on June 3 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, but Gastelum was forced out of the fight after being flagged by USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) for a potential anti-doping violation.

Multiple fighters were rumored to be replacing Gastelum including former champions Luke Rockhold and Vitor Belfort, but Silva was essentially left without an opponent for weeks, as neither of those possibilities came to fruition. Eventually, he demanded an interim title fight with No. 1-ranked Yoel Romero, but that request was quickly denied by UFC President Dana White.

During a live Instagram stream yesterday (May 7, 2017), Silva had confirmed that he officially won’t be fighting at UFC 212 in his home country (Via MMAJunkie.com):

“I really wanted to fight in Brazil, my country, but it’s not going to happen,” Silva said. “I want to apologize for this. I really wanted to fight here, but it didn’t happen. I think I was hurt in this, but that’s it.”

In recent weeks, Silva, who is coming off of a decision victory over Derek Brunson in the co-main event of UFC 208 this past February in Brooklyn, has made headlines voicing his displeasure towards the way he has been treated by the UFC. He has even went as far to say that he’d be willing to retire, which led White to say that he ‘probably’ should.

As of now, “The Spider” claims that he’s done, although it’s unclear what his next move will be:

“I’m very disappointed,” Silva said at the occasion. “The guys don’t respect my legacy, don’t respect my story in the sport. I don’t know. I’m done.”

Gastelum, who had his latest win over Belfort overturned due to his failed drug test, recently accepted a three month suspension from the Brazilian Superior Justice Court of MMA. Prior to his fight with Belfort, Gastelum had won back-to-back fights over the likes of Johny Hendricks and Tim Kennedy, while appearing to be settling into his new home a 185 pounds.

He has, however, expressed interest in fighting Silva at UFC on FOX 25 on July 22, 2017 at Nassau Coliseum on Long Island when his suspension is up. Would you like to see the UFC re-book a bout between “The Spider” and Gastelum, or do you expect the Brazilian legend to hang up his gloves for good?

UFC Light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is hoping to face former champion and former pound-for-pound king Jon Jones at UFC 214 this summer. “Bones” is currently serving out a USADA suspension that will end in July.

The two first met at UFC 182 in Jan. 2015 where Jones took home a unanimous decision victory. He then, however, tested positive for cocaine metabolites in the aftermath of the bout. They were then set to rematch at UFC 200 last July, but Jones was forced to withdraw just days prior after being flagged by USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) for an anti-doping violation.

Cormier recently blasted the ex-champions for his issues with USADA:

“Last time — I’m a truth teller — the first fight when me and Jon fought there were stories about him hiding from USADA or some [expletive] like that. Then when he finally did get his test, he tested positive for cocaine and his body levels were all just completely out of whack as if he had just finished doing some illegal stuff,” Cormier explained when speaking to FOX Sports.

“Then after he got himself into that trouble, he came back and he fought Ovince Saint-Preux. He was big and he was strong and he looked fantastic and it was his first fight under USADA and he fought like [expletive]. So then at UFC 200, he probably said ‘I can’t really do this the way I want to do it without my help.’ So he said ‘I’m just going to try it again’ and he tested positive again.”

In fact, Cormier even went as far to imply that Jones has been using steroids:

“He may want to try to learn how to do this the correct way before he fights me. I hate saying a guy used steroids, but all signs point to him doing something wrong,” Cormier said. “Let’s be honest. From the test levels from before the first time we fought and then his test results didn’t become available until after the fight. So there’s smoke there obviously.”

What do you make of Cormier’s latest comments?
