In their first meeting, Grasso was able to take the title from Shevchenko via submission, their second fight ended in a draw. Now, they look to settle the score. This result left many fans and pundits divided, setting the stage for their upcoming trilogy fight to settle the score once and for all.

Grasso will be looking to cement her status as the true champion of the division, while Shevchenko aims to reclaim her title and prove that her initial loss was a fluke. Wang Cong on Valentina Shevchenko rematch: 'I can beat her any time'

While former undisputed flyweight titleholder, Valentina Shevchenko is gearing up for a title rematch return next month against Alexa Grasso in their trilogy clash at Noche UFC — a former kickboxing foe of the Krgysztan native, Wang Cong is confident of landing another win over the decorated striker if they share the Octagon down the line.

Cong, a former Kunlun Fight Legend of Mulan tournament victor, made her debut under the banner of the UFC over the course of this weekend on a Vegas 96 card, landing in the promotion with aplomb.

Stopping Brazilian opponent, Victoria Leonardo, Cong landed a stunning opening round one-punch knockout win inside an opening minute — earning herself a Performance of the Night bonus to boot.

Entering the Octagon off the back of an impressive win during an appearance on ‘Road to UFC’, Cong had previously scored a unanimous decision win over former undisputed flyweight champion, Shevchenko back in 2016, over the course of three rounds.

And drawing obvious links to a rematch with Shevchenko under the banner of the promotion given their prior history outside of the Octagon — Cong remains confident of taking a second career win over the former champion in combat sports, claiming she would stop Shevchenko any time she likes.

Alexa Grasso vs. Valentina Shevchenko and more added to UFC 306

“You guys only know i beat (Valentina) Shevchenko in kickboxing,” Wang Cong told assembled media after her win at UFC Vegas 96. “But you don’t know I’m a sambo world champion, a boxing world champion, and a kickboxing world champion.”

“I think comparing Valentina Shevchenko to me is that she has more experience,” Wang Cong explained. “But I took some time to compete in boxing. I believe my striking is better than hers. If she takes the fight, [I can beat her] any time.”

For Shevchenko, the former flyweight champion takes on the above-mentioned, Grasso in the co-main event of Noche UFC next month — as part of a title fight doubleheader at the Las Vegas Sphere.

UFC 305 is in the books, meaning attention will soon turn to the mixed martial arts leader’s next pay-per-view offering.

Of note were victories for UFC Middleweight Champion Dricus Du Plessis, former interim flyweight title challenger Kai Kara-France, and lightweight fan favorite Dan Hooker.

While the aftermath of the August 17 card is currently the talk of the town, it won’t be long until focus sways to the next PPV, and from the middleweight title picture to the bantamweight and women’s flyweight championship conversations.

At Noche UFC (UFC 306), an event set to celebrate Mexican Independance Day inside the Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada, on September 14, reigning 135-pound kingpin Sean O’Malley will compete for the second time this year. There will also be title stakes in the co-headliner, as flyweight queen Alexa Grasso completes her trilogy with the legendary Valentina Shevchenko. After a same-day withdrawal from “T-City” saw the Mexico-residing Brazilian face and defeat Dan Ige at International Fight Week instead, Lopes will have the opportunity to crack the top five in rearranged clash with Ortega.

Prior to that, highly touted Mexican prospects Daniel Zellhuber and Ronaldo Rodriguez will open the main card against Esteban Ribovics and Ode’ Osbourne, respectively, while notable names like Irena Aldana and Raul Rosas Jr. will feature on the prelims.
