Looking forward to tonight’s fights. Here’s a quick last look at our UFC 126 best bets. (Re)watch the above vid for more UFC 126 betting odds and analysis.

:: We know a surprising number of people who are really liking Vitor Belfort in the headliner tonight against Anderson Silva. Public money is clearly coming in heavy on Belfort as well, as his line has moved down around 20-25 points on all sites. While we don’t think you should be betting against The Spider until proven otherwise (especially after his impressive win against a performance-enhanced Chael Sonnen), if you think Belfort has a legit shot at the title, take him a +205 on Bookmaker here. If you’re like us and think the public is usually wrong, grab Silva at -220 here.

:: Can’t wait to see Jon “Bones” Jones on a PPV card finally. He’s the biggest favorite of the main card. Best value for him is at -280 on BetED here.

:: We’ve liked Forrest Griffin from the moment his fight against Rich Franklin was announced. Nothing has changed there. If you’re like us and think Griffin shouldn’t be the dog, take the +125 here.

:: Finally–for props–while we like Griffin, we still think it’ll be a close fight. Bodog has some great props listed, included our two favorites, +250 that Griffin wins by decision and, for our flier of the week, +2600 that the bout ends in a draw. Take a look at all UFC 126 fight props here.

If you’re not already pumped for UFC 126, there isn’t much we (or modern medicine) can do for you at this point. The card is stacked, the matchups are stellar and the UFC middleweight champion showed up at the weigh-in looking like he just stepped out of the orgy scene in “Eyes Wide Shut” and damn near started a brawl. What more do you want? Fine, we’ve got a couple more tidbits for you, but after this we’re done until tonight’s live blog and tomorrow’s aftermath retrospectives.

First, some interesting stuff came out of ESPN’s MMA Live weigh-in special (video at top) on Friday. Most notably, Franklin McNeil makes the wild, barely attributable claim that estranged trainer Shawn Tompkins has been leaking secrets to Anderson Silva’s camp since splitting with Vitor Belfort a couple weeks ago. Basically McNeil quotes “several” anonymous sources telling him hazy things about Tompkins “being in contact with Team Silva” and he “assumes” that it means Tompkins is stabbing Vitor in the back. Dude, and people call us rumor mongers? He also refers to Shawn Tompkins as “Thompson” at least once here, but that’s really beside the point.

Also, we’ve got quotes from Jon Jones that make him sound either totally prepared for Ryan Bader, or not prepared at all. It’s all after the jump …

Anderson Silva vs Vitor Belfort

Another Brazilian battle here with Belfort who has been out of the UFC for years now. Hasn’t been in since I think he accidentally sliced Randy Couture’s eyelid with the tip of his glove and that was his comeback period. Before that Belfort fought in the early UFC pre-Zuffa.

Since then Belfort has been messing people up in other organizations like 2 event promotion, Affliction, as well as Cage Rage. Some of Belfort’s notable losses include Alistair Overeem in his earlier days and 1 time in Overeem’s larger days. Belfort has lost only to top name opponents and the list of opponents he has beaten is not the top of the heap, however, he has always beaten these guys in incredibly fast fashion.

It sounds like I’m just gunning for a Belfort win. I’m not. Just pointing out because most people might not even know who Vitor Belfort is. This is probably one of the top 2 tests Anderson Silva has ever faced.

Anderson is going to want to stick to the low kicks particuarly his front knee kicks as any high kicks are likely to be met with Belfort punches. However, Belfort can be stifled quite easily. Anyone who has wrestled him in his past has caused problems. Anderson unfortunately is an opponent that fits into Belfort’s strengths.

With the odds at Intertops showing -300 for Silva and +220 for Belfort. With this setup, I like Vitor Belfort for the win.

Just a reminder that you can watch the UFC 126 weigh-ins live right here a bit later than usual at 7:00 pm ET.

There’s a pretty good chance that Anderson will be willing Vitor’s head to explode with his ice cold death stare, so it’s probably worth tuning in to to see if any altercations go down ahead of their potentially epic fight tomorrow night.

Spiritual, Matured Vitor Belfort Filled With Confidence for Anderson Silva

LAS VEGAS — Around the edges and out of focus, there’s a thought that Vitor Belfort will mentally break at some point during his middleweight championship fight against Anderson Silva. During UFC 126 fight week, it’s rarely been directly addressed. As you might imagine, the people who think it don’t necessarily have the courage to bring up the possibility to Belfort. But the whispers are there if you listen.

Belfort has faced the criticism for a long time. Many fighters — and even greats — face recurring critiques for sins committed years before. BJ Penn, for example, still hears questions about his stamina to this day. To be honest, some of it is rooted in some reality, but must past mistakes shadow you for an entire career? Not everyone has a second act, but perhaps that’s what Saturday represents for Belfort, a chance to finally quiet the doubters once and for all.

It’s never easy to know what thoughts are swirling around an athlete’s head, even when you stand in front of him, listen to his words, and examine his body language. But Belfort has made a believer of some when it comes to the inner peace he’s found. This is the most important fight in Brazil’s MMA history, and yet Belfort looks as though he feels no pressure, his eyes filled with happiness and excitement at what is to come.
