Heavyweight boxing legend Mike Tyson has taken a break from his preparations for a boxing comeback to team up with some MMA superstars and take on professional wrestling legend Chris Jericho in an epic brawl.

Tyson first appeared on All Elite Wrestling (AEW) this past Sunday to present a new belt. He returned on Wednesday evening and found himself involved in a brawl with Jericho. Luckily for Tyson, he had some serious back-up in the form of recently retired bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo as well as UFC legends Rashad Evans and Vitor Belfort.

This is not the first time Tyson has found himself in a wrestling ring with Jericho. In 2010 ‘Iron Mike’ teamed with Jericho for a tag-team match against Triple H and Shawn Michaels on an episode of WWE’s ‘Monday Night Raw’. The bout ended with Tyson switching sides and knocking Jericho out cold, hence the bitter rivalry at AEW 10 years later.

The 53-year-old is expected to return to the ring later this year to box. Despite being the subject of a $20 million offer to fight bare-knuckle it appears Tyson is set to return to the sport that made him. His most likely opponent is Evander Holyfield who followed Tyson out of retirement in the hopes of making a trilogy fight for charity.

While Tyson’s future in wrestling seems pretty non-existent the same can’t be said for some of his posse. ‘Triple C’ is now retired and seems to be a perfect fit for the wrestling world. Former light-heavyweight champion Evans is also retired from fighting and decent on the mic based on his various bits of television work for the UFC. Belfort although still, an active fighter could well be heading to wrestling too. Just a couple days ago he was speaking about arranging a tag-team match with Tyson after the pair were spotted training together.

Tyson Training With Belfort

Former boxing heavyweight champion Mike Tyson is continuing his comeback preparations.

The 53-year-old is expected to make his highly-anticipated return to the sweet science in a charity match in the near future. Although there is no confirmed opponent as of now — though there are a number of options for him — Tyson continues to ramp up his training as he continues to look in great shape.

The latest includes him training alongside former UFC light heavyweight champion and current ONE Championship fighter Vitor Belfort.

You can watch a short snippet of them together doing stretches below:

Belfort also shared a message in the post of how Tyson inspired him back in the day.

“The youngest boxing champion with the youngest @ufc #mma champion.
@miketyson & @vitorbelfort ?????? — Mike, was my motivation to becoming the KING ? & record hold of most K.O in @ufc history since 1993″

It also appears that “The Phenom” is interested in doing something with Tyson, though it doesn’t seem to be for a boxing match. Both attended a recent AEW event recently, with Tyson making an appearance on the show.

“@miketyson @aewontnt @onechampionship @tonyrkhan @yodchatri let’s make it something happen!!! Awesome show just one idea!!! Please let me know what u guys think?”

As for Belfort, he is yet to make his ONE Championship debut despite signing with the promotion last year. However, he plans on making it soon with his opponent expected to be Alain Ngalani.

Alain Ngalani Says ‘I’m A Danger For Anyone’ When Talking About Vitor Belfort

ONE Championship’s Alain Ngalani is somewhat of a cult figure for the Singapore-based promotion.

The 45-year-old, with the Herculean physique, took up MMA in 2013, following a successful kickboxing career, and has since forged a reputation as an entertaining fighter to watch, even when results don’t go his way.

Ngalani’s record inside the ONE Circle currently stands at 4-5 with one no-contest. Only two of the Cameroon native’s fights have made it out of the first round, and with Ngalani, it often seems to be a case of “Here for a good time, not a long time.”

So when the ONE matchmakers were looking for the right opponent to welcome MMA legend, Vitor Belfort, to ONE, it was clear that Ngalani ticked all the boxes. It’s a matchup that has got Ngalani’s competitive juices flowing.

” I am coming to win this fight, When I am in the right mindset when I am healthy, I am danger for anyone,” Ngalani said in an interview with Sherdog.

“I am very healthy, I have recovered from my injuries, and I am ready for this I just needed something to put the fire back in me and motivate me and give me that fire I was lacking.”

To date, the most recognized fighter Ngalani has fought in MMA is Myanmar superstar Aung La N Sang. A fight with Belfort — even at this late stage of the Brazilian’s career — will boast Ngalani’s profile in a way few other matchups in ONE could.

Ngalani is fully aware of the legacy that Belfort carries and respects the 43-year-old’s decision to have one last hurrah before hanging up his gloves.

“I think overall Vitor is one of the best fighters that I will face and that’s just to give the man the honor he deserves I think he is a legend. He has done a lot in the sport he has nothing to prove,” he exclaimed.

“Props to him to come back and fight at this time at this level, my hats off to him, I respect him a lot.”

The pairs fight will take place under an as-yet-unannounced set of modified rules. Any changes are unlikely to bother Ngalani and could, in fact, benefit him if they impose limits on grappling, which is not his strong suit.

The fight’s weight class also has yet to be confirmed, and on this note, Ngalani — a natural heavyweight — sounded a word of warning to Belfort.

“I would say that he might be reaching a little [to fight Ngalani at heavyweight], but you never know I don’t know what his state of mind is now. I trust that he knows what he is doing, but I feel like it’s to my advantage to be at my normal weight.”

There will not be any belt on the line when Ngalani squares off against Belfort, but the stakes will still be high for both men. A win for the Cameroonian will see his name become known by a whole new set of fans, while a loss for Belfort could be the final act of his career.

Whenever the bout does take place, it will be fun while it lasts.

Vitor Belfort Interested In Anderson Silva Crossover Rematch

Belfort

There are a number of interesting matchups for Vitor Belfort now that he’s at ONE Championship. However, he seems to be more interested in a rematch with Anderson Silva.

Belfort signed with ONE Championship last year and although he is yet to make his debut, he does finally have an opponent lined up in the form of Alain Ngalani.

However, there are other options in the form of Wanderlei Silva, Tito Ortiz, Brandon Vera and even Rich Franklin. Belfort certainly agrees that those are good fights but went on to add Silva’s name to the mix.

“I agree 100 percent,” Belfort told MMA Junkie Radio. “I will add one more, I’ll add Anderson Silva if that would be possible.”

Belfort Believes There Should Be More Crossover Fights

Belfort and Silva fought for the latter’s middleweight title back in 2011. Silva retained his title on that occasion after an impressive first-round knockout of Belfort via front kick.

“The Phenom” may want to run things back, but Silva still remains in the UFC with president Dana White not being one for cross-promotional fights.

And that’s something Belfort believes needs to change for most promoters.

“I think as you start understanding that whatever we did for the sport, we gotta put the politics behind and hoping that the promoters can be open to do this kind of cross fighting and just give to the fans,” Belfort added. “They deserve it.

“It’s all about the fans. As a promoter you’re looking for something that guys that pave their way, they deserve to do fights that are going to increase not just the viewership but also the value for the organization but also for the sport.”

While there could certainly be more crossover fights in the sport, it remains to be seen just how much of an interest or demand there is in seeing a Belfort vs. Silva rematch.
