UFC on FOX 13 Weigh-In Results, or, The End of the ‘Nate Diaz: Crazy or Cunning?’ Debate

Earlier today, CagePotato contributor Trent Reinsmith asked us to consider whether perennial lightweight contender Nate Diaz might secretly be a hell of a lot more cunning than we give him credit for. The main takeaway from you readers seemed to be that the article was “retarded”, “fake”, and also “gay.” Quite the cunning linguists, you guys are. #wordplay #layers

While initially skeptical myself, I was at least willing to hear Trent out, as my own recent revelation about Tito Ortiz has forced me to reconsider that any and every MMA fighter might be some kind of evil genius beneath all the punch drunk slurs and mispronounced maxims.

Until about an hour ago, that was, at the UFC on FOX 13 weigh-ins. Scheduled to face Rafael Dos Anjos in a pivotal lightweight matchup, Diaz showed up a whopping 5.6 pounds overweight and, in a shocking twist, appeared to give less than zero fucks about it. I’m just saying, if I spent a year-long hiatus from my job complaining about not getting paid enough, I sure as hell wouldn’t force the athletic commission to deduct 20% of my paycheck upon my return. So let’s all just go ahead and put that debate to bed.

The rest of the UFC on FOX 13 weigh-in results are after the jump.

-Daniel Pineda (145) vs. Robert Whiteford (145)

* Hendricks initially weighed in at 171.5, but hit the welterweight limit when he weighed in again two hours later — which is a good thing because it would have been a total clusterfuck if he didn’t.

** Gastelum originally weighed in at 172, but made it down to 171 on his third attempt

*** Forte was given two hours to make 156 pounds, but couldn’t make it happen, and forfeited 20% of his purse to Trevino.

And here we have Nick Diaz heckling Johny Hendricks about his weight. Diaz actually offered to step in if the title fight was called off. And that’s why we love him.

Daniel Straus Had to Cut His Damn Dreads Off to Make 145 Pounds at Yesterday’s Bellator Weigh-Ins

(Well that’s a shame. / Photo via Anthony Mazzuca)

Tonight in Hammond, Indiana, Bellator featherweight champion Daniel Straus will make his first title-defense in a rubber-match against Pat Curran, the guy he won the title from in November. But just making weight for the fight turned into a harrowing test of Straus’s character. Expecting to come in a little over the 145-pound limit, Straus chopped his own dreads off backstage to help shed some ounces. The raggedy aftermath is what you see above.

At weigh-ins, Straus immediately stripped down and got behind a towel — and he was still a half-pound over. Luckily, Straus was able to shed the extra weight with some additional time, and tonight’s title fight will proceed as scheduled. But between Straus’s new hairstyle and the sudden removals of War Machine and Joe Riggs, the Bellator 112 poster has become one of the most outdated and inaccurate posters in MMA history. It’s a crazy world, man. Everything is subject to change.

(And to think, it costs exactly as much to step into their world as it did to make this poster!)

In a few short minutes, the official weigh-ins for Fight Night 37: Gustafsson vs. Manuwa will transpire from the O2 Arena in London, England. So join us after the jump for the quickest weigh-in results on the web, then gather your pitchforks and torches and meet us at the town square to protest the fact that Ilir Latifi still doesn’t have a Wikipedia page. Catch the ‘Fight Night 36: Machida vs. Mousasi’ Weigh-Ins LIVE Right Here Starting at 1 p.m. EST [UPDATED w/RESULTS]

(Uh-oh. Grizzled, unkempt Machida is easily the most dangerous of all Machidas. Photo via Getty.)

Lyoto Machida, Gegard Mousasi, and all 24 fighters competing on tomorrow’s ‘Fight Night 36’ card are set to hit the scales from the Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil starting at 1 p.m. EST. Although Fight Night 36 is eerily similar in quality to next weekend’s UFC 170 pay-per-view, it features neither Ronda Rousey nor the year’s biggest squash match and therefore will be free. No, I do not understand it either.

Join us after the jump for a live feed of the weigh-ins, which are sure to feature no shortage of graceful bows and vacant, serial killer-esque stares into the distance. Should be a good one.
