Former UFC strawweight champion Jéssica Andrade has pinpointed who she would like to face next after a victorious return to the division at UFC Vegas 52.

Last night at UFC Vegas 52, Jéssica Andrade made history with the first standing arm-triangle submission victory in UFC history over Amanda Lemos. This was Andrade’s first fight back at strawweight since her UFC 251 split-decision loss to current champion Rose Namajunas.

Andrade then moved up to flyweight where she was able to go 2-1, with the lone defeat coming at the hands of one of the best pound-for-pound fighters on planet Earth, Valentina Shevchenko.

UFC 261: Valentina Shevchenko warns 'don't waste your time' after beat down of Jessica Andrade to retain flyweight title | South China Morning Post

Prior to temporarily exiting strawweight in 2020, Andrade had reached the pinnacle of the division when she defeated Namajunas for the title at UFC 237 in 2019. Now that she’s back in the strawweight win column for the first time since then, she is already setting her eyes on retrieving the championship belt.

In a perfect world according to Andrade, that would mean a crack at the winner of the upcoming fight between Rose Namajunas and Carla Esparza.

However, what’s more realistic and likely, according to the former champ, is that she would have to face the winner of the upcoming rematch between Zhang Weili and Joanna J?drzejczyk. Andrade knows what it’s like to be in the Octagon with both women, as they both hold a victory over Bate Estaca.

With the Weili/J?drzejczyk rematch being confirmed during the UFC Vegas 52 broadcast, what better time is there to lend an official prediction from a mutual opponent?

“Looking back on the past two years, I think that Weili probably has an advantage there,” Andrade’s analysis began. “We haven’t seen what Joanna has been working on and if she’s been working on anything. But Joanna has always been Joanna. What she does is what she has been doing throughout her UFC career.

“Meanwhile, we saw Weili developing, and improving, and working on different things. So on paper, if you do the math, considering what happened the first fight, I would say that Weili has a better shot at winning. And I just want to fight whoever wins that fight.”

Andrade will certainly find her place right back in the strawweight rankings after her triumphant return Saturday. Once the world learns her precise placement, it will be much easier to play matchmaker for the former champion as she straps up for some potential redemption.

Who do you predict Jéssica Andrade will fight next?

Joanna J?drzejczyk

Joanna J?drzejczyk is pleased with the growth of the sport since she was strawweight champion.

While she was technically the second champion at 115lb in the UFC, beating inaugural Carla Esparza in 2015 to get the belt, she has the longest title reign in the division by a long shot. This has led to many fans considering her the best the division has ever seen. Towards the end of her title reign, and especially after she lost the title, strawweight became arguably the most exciting women’s division in the UFC.

The most recent title fight at 115lb saw the woman that snatched the throne from J?drzejczyk, Rose Namajunas, defend the title that she reclaimed in a rematch against the woman that she took it back from, Weili Zhang.

Speaking in a recent interview with South China Morning Post, the Boogeywoman said that she was entertained by the scrap and happy with the way the division has evolved since her time on top.

“It was a good fight. The strawweight division is just evolving. Maybe it’s the lightest division in the UFC, but these girls are on fire. I’m very happy to see that… These girls hit hard, you know. It was good to see that in the strawweight division, I love it… It just motivates me to work harder than before,” J?drzejczyk said.

When asked about how she felt, seeing this evolution within the division during her time away from competition, Joanna J?drzejczyk was not too bothered by it all. In fact, it was the opposite, as she stated her pleasure with seeing the women’s side of MMA continue to blossom.

“I feel super happy. I feel super happy because it’s been a while, you know… I just feel happy for these girls. I always say that Ronda Rousey brought women’s MMA into the next level. But I feel like we are all breaking barriers, and we just build this. I’m very happy to see this and I’m very happy to see more and more women’s main events. I’m just super happy. Ronda was the first one, after that I had a few main event shows, and I’m super happy to see just more and more shows (headlined by women),” J?drzejczyk said.

While it is nice to see Joanna J?drzejczyk showing respect to the women who have continued to grow the sport, hopefully, she will be able to get back in the mix at 115lb soon and continue being a part of the division’s continued growth moving forward.

Joanna J?drzejczyk Thinks Zhang Weili Rematch Could Await UFC Return

Joanna J?drzejczyk is thinking about her return to the UFC and who she would face.

The strawweight division in the UFC is stacked at the top. Champion Rose Namajunas just had her first title defense against Weili Zhang. Who is next for her might be up for debate right now but always waiting in the wings is former champion Joanna J?drzejczyk.

J?drzejczyk has been out of competition since her loss to Zhang back in March of 2020. The loss was her fourth since losing the title. J?drzejczyk has mentioned wanting to wait until a title shot gets offered but now she might be coming around to another option for her return fight.

“(Zhang) might be the next one,” J?drzejczyk told The South China Morning Post.”In case Rose is not ready to fight in March or April. I believe she wants to rest because she put on a hell of a performance and it was a pretty tough fight, five rounds. I bet she wants to enjoy her time as the champ, as a human, so we will see.”

The only strawweight opponents that J?drzejczyk has lost to in her career have been Namajunas and Zhang. J?drzejczyk was recently removed from the UFC rankings due to inactivity but she is still very relevant in the division and could easily squeak her way back into a title contention bout.

If she were to win one more against a top-ranked opponent, J?drzejczyk could be right back in there vying for a shot at the belt. She is the longest-reigning strawweight champion with five title defenses in a row. Namajunas could be creeping up to challenge that record unless J?drzejczyk or someone else can step in to stop her.

Do you think Joanna J?drzejczyk can defeat Weili Zhang if they face off against each other again?

Weili Zhang used some unusual training tactics to get ready for her fight at UFC 268 in New York City.

UFC 268 took place in New York City at the famed Madison Square Garden Arena. The co-main event showed champion Rose Namajunas defeating former champion Weili Zhang via split decision. This fight was a rematch of the UFC 261 fight which also took place in the United States. After the fight, Zhang spoke about how she feared the fans were against her after anti-communist remarks made by Namajunas.

New York is a place where the fans are notably loud and in some cases hateful. They have been known to boo against their own teams, let alone a rival. Knowing this going in, Zhang utilized some boo simulation to help her get used to the noise. She had tape playing during her practices of fans yelling and booing her. Zhang was asked post-fight if this method helped her.

“So I think the training was definitely helpful,” Zhang said through a translator. “I think why I got booed, I think that I understand that it’s not like they don’t like me. It’s just because I’m not one of their countrywomen. So I’m just not from the same country. So with that in mind, I feel a lot better. So also I remind myself when they’re booing me, I just take a breath, deep breath, and get their energy.”

This unique type of training was just one new piece that Zhang added to her arsenal. She also began training with former two-division champion Henry Cejudo. Although she still fell short on Saturday night, Zhang is happy with her performance and how all the new skills she learned worked out in her favor.

Do you think Weili Zhang will ever hold the strawweight belt around her waist again?
