Jordan Burroughs talks wrestling against Ben Askren

All-time freestyle wrestling great Jordan Burroughs wrestled against MMA fighter Ben Askren in 2019. Both Burroughs and Askren are accomplished wrestlers who have represented the United States in the Olympics.

Before he was a world champion in Bellator and ONE Championship, Askren was a highly touted folkstyle collegiate wrestler. In 2008, he wrestled on the US Olympic team as a freestyle wrestler. The 2008 team also included names that MMA fans would easily recognize such as Henry Cejudo and Daniel Cormier.

Jordan Burroughs is considered one of the all-time great wrestlers in freestyle history. Representing the USA he has earned six gold medals in Wrestling World Championships, first place in NCAA Division I wrestling in three competitions, plus an Olympics gold medal in 2012.

In 2019, Askren and Burroughs met on the mat in an official wrestling match for charity.

Jordan Burroughs on wrestling Ben Askren in 2019

New Jersey born wrestler Jordan Burroughs recently sat down with Joe Rogan for an interview on his career. During their discussion, the topic of UFC fighter Ben Askren came up. Jordan Burroughs said Askren was a wrestler that he always had looked up to. Burroughs explained:

“I respect Ben [Askren] a ton. Wrestling Askren. I was in college in 2008 when he was on the Olympic team going to Beijing. I was on the junior world team. I was 20 years old at the time. He was the Olympian so I was like ‘Damn, that’s Ben Askren, like yo look who it is!’ Super cool for me to have that experience.”

Burroughs fondly recalls:

“I remember he took me for a ride to Wal-Mart in his Prius and he let me sit shotgun. From that day on I idolized him. You get to the point where idols become rivals. This guy is doing extremely well in the MMA world. He is a former wrestler but he still has his hand in wrestling.”

On the charity showdown in 2019, Burroughs is proud of how great of a turnout it created, he continued:

“It was a lot of fun. We drew a ton of fans. We sold out the Hulu theatre in Time Square.”

On his dream wrestling matchups, Burroughs listed:

“I want to roll with Conor [McGregor]. It’s probably my dream guy that just like get my hands on and feel a little bit. I think it would be fun. GSP.”

Maxwell Jacob Friedman

Professional wrestling star and AEW (All Elite Wrestling) mainstay, Maxwell Jacob Friedman has offered to share the Octagon with UFC lightweight contender, Paddy Pimblett – in a rather surprising clash of personalities, after the duo shared a tense back-and-forth across Instagram.

Friedman, a professional wrestler competing under the AEW banner, and otherwise known by his abbreviation, MJF, currently holds the organization’s World Championship title.

Pimblett, on the other hand, is a former Cage Warriors featherweight champion, and made his long-awaited Octagon bow in September of last year. Debuting with a knockout win over Luigi Vendramini, the Liverpool native would then stop Kazula Vargas with a submission win at UFC London earlier this year, before a July rear-naked choke success over Jordan Leavitt in a summer instalment of the capital card.

Engaging in an Instagram comment storm alongside Friedman, Pimblett commented on the promotion’s incoming outing at Craven Cottage – the football ground of Premier League side, Fulham, with the former offering to fight Pimblett under the banner of the UFC in a wholly unlikely fight.

“@the_mjf I do have knowledge about mma tho don’t I?” Paddy Pimblett questioned Maxwell Jacob Friedman. “Which u have zero knowledge about so let’s not go there (laughing face emoji) If u wanna have a real fight let’s sort it with the @ufc if not pipe down! Oh tell ur boss to sign me up when yous come to Fulham’s ground I be ready son (raised hands face emoji) (kissing face emoji).”

“@theufcbaddy hey bud, @aew has a show coming up in your neck of the woods,” Maxwell Jacob Friedman commented. “If you’re man enough I’ll gladly show you how real I am. @tonyrkhan @danawhite.”

“@the_mjf I’ve just said that u spaceman (laughing face emoji) don’t act asif ur calling for it I’ve just told u straight when youse come Fulham’s ground (craven cottage) get ur boss @tonyrkhan to message my boss @danawhite and see what we can sort (raised hands face emoji) because I know full well you won’t pass a USADA drug test to fight in the @ufc (laughing face emoji),” Paddy Pimblett commented.

“@theufcbaddy unlike you I’m 100% natural and I’m also 100% original,” Maxwell Jacob Friedman commented. “You’re dollar store Conor McGregor talking, Will from Stranger Things looking ass wouldn’t last two seconds in my world. #Betterthanyou See you in London.”

Next Generation MMA staple, Pimblett is slated to make his Octagon return at UFC 282 on December 10. against Jared Gordon at the lightweight limit at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Adonis Lattimore

Adonis Lattimore, born without his right leg and with a partial left leg, has scored the Class 6 Virginia Beach State Wrestling Championship in his native Virginia.

Lattimore, a congenital amputee, who was also born with a single finger on his right hand, attends Landstown High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia – clinched the Class 6 state wrestling championship at the 106lbs division last weekend.

Receiving coverage for his incredible achievement in his native Virginia, Lattimore insisted that a positive and continued work ethic can help people reach their goals and make their dreams come to fruition.

Adonis Lattimore insists that he has “no excuses” in an attempt to make his dreams a reality

“I’ve been dreaming of this since I knew what it was, and to finally have it happen is just – I don’t know how to explain it. Really, if you won hard, you can do anything – even win a state championship without legs,” Adonis Lattimore told The Virginian Pilot

32-7 as a wrestler at Landstown High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Lattimore managed to secure his first state wrestling championship win with last weekend’s success.

Lattimore, 17, explained during an interview with WAVY 10 that his victory in the state wrestling championship was just a “blur” for him, before revealing he had the goal of winning the state title for six years during an interview with ABC 7 News after his state championship win.

“(It’s) pretty motivating just to prove them wrong,” Adonis Lattimore said. “And just to prove to myself that I can do anything I set out to do.” (Transcribed by Bloody Elbow)

Lattimore’s appearance in the state wrestling championship final came against the Korian Tran of Lake Braddock High School, beating his opponent with a score of 5-1 in the state final. Lattimore has reiterated a common phase throughout his wrestling run despite his congenital amputation: “no excuses”.

Khamzat Chimaev Daniel Cormier

Khamzat Chimaev has been smeshing everyone from the UFC and is now gunning for a wrestling match with Daniel Cormier.

Chimaev has been using his impressive grappling skills to utterly dominate at every step of the way so far in his UFC career. His skills were even put on display in a submission grappling match against fellow UFC fighter Jack Hermansson, where he again was able to largely crush his foe with pressure and an insane pace.

As it turns out, Chimaev is not just satisfied with dominating welterweight and middleweight fighters with his grappling skills. Taking to Twitter recently, he challenged former light heavyweight and heavyweight champion and Olympic wrestler Daniel Cormier to hit the mats for a wrestling match.

“@dc_mma Let’s make a wrestling match brother what you think ? ?” Chimaev wrote.

Although it took some prodding from random people accusing him of ducking the opposition, Cormier responded to this callout from Chimaev. DC noted how much he appreciated the confidence that the Chechen prospect has but says that he would make it an easy contest.

“In a real wrestling match? Are you crazy Khamzat? Love that you’re confident but brother this is 10-0 DC !” Cormier wrote, tagging Chimaev.

To be clear, Khamzat Chimaev is almost certainly making a joke and is not genuinely interested in wrestling a man who is upwards of 100lb heavier than him with elite-level wrestling experience. Then again, Daniel Cormier is not a very active competitor anymore and Chimaev has always expressed a willingness to take on all comers, so who knows what could happen.
