It appears that Zabit Magomedsharipov is tired of waiting for a fight, and is likely to end his UFC career because of it.

Russian journalist Igor Lazorin broke the news on his Instagram on Friday, saying that one of the top featherweights in the world might be done in the octagon.

“I spoke with close people of Zabit to understand how things are going. They say that Zabit is very likely to end his career and will not fight again,” Lazorin said in an Instagram post. “Long time without fights, no motivation, Zabit is tired of fighting.”

Lazorin also said that Magomedsharipov hasn’t spoken out publically and announced any career changes just yet, but that could be imminent.

Magomedsharipov hasn’t competed in the UFC since his win over Calvin Kattar in October 2019 in his native Russia. He was recently removed from the UFC’s fighter rankings due to inactivity and has had issues getting a fight scheduled since then.

Magomedsharipov is undefeated over his UFC tenure with a 6-0 record in the promotion. It’s unclear what the exact reason for his lack of motivation to compete is, but it appears that the lack of activity is a major factor to his unrest.

The news interestingly enough comes days after UFC featherweight Yair Rodriguez called out Magomedsharipov for a fight in the near future. The two were supposed to compete on multiple occasions but the dream matchup kept falling through.

If this is truly the end to Magomedsharipov’s UFC career, then it would be a huge loss for the top of the featherweight division. Though it’s still uncertain as to whether or not the Russian star will retire, it appears certain that he has grown unhappy with the UFC over the lack of effort to book him a fight.

Also a featherweight, the younger Magomedsharipov is 5-0 with four finishes. Three of them were submissions while he holds one knockout victory. He has competed for Gorilla Fighting as well as Fight Nights Global where he last TKO’d Mikhail Tarkhanov in December.

He notably trains alongside Zabit under Mark Henry in New Jersey.

The move follows Bellator’s signing late last year of Usman Nurmagomedov — the younger cousin of former UFC lightweight champion Khabib.

As for the Bellator 2021 schedule, it is set to resume April 2 with Bellator 255 which is headlined by a featherweight grand prix semifinal fight between current champion Patricio “Pitbull” Freire and Emmanuel Sanchez.

It will be a rematch of their 2018 featherweight title fight that saw Freire come out on top via unanimous decision.

Highly ranked Featherweight contender Chan Sung Jung “The Korean Zombie” has shared some of his plans for 2021 during a recent interview with Korean publication Sport TV News.

During the interview, Jung was asked when he would be making his return to the Octagon to which he replied that he was awaiting a contract but expected it to be in April. Jung said that he could potentially compete this month in January, however, the UFC is currently working on an opponent for him. Jung also shared his goal for the year was to fight at least two times and to emerge victorious in both matchups.

Recently Jung called his shot on Twitter calling out fellow Featherweight contender Zabit Magomedsharipov in December following his recent loss to Brian Ortega. Since Magomedsharipov had recently lost his multiple time scheduled opponent Yair Rodriguez, Jung felt that a matchup between them would make sense and also be a crowd-pleaser.

“This is a fight that would bring the fans to their feet,” Jung said. “(He) and I are both entertainers and extremely competitive, so I think he’d like to step in the octagon with me. A win for both of us would mean a lot for our careers, and it would be an amazing match. The ball is in Zabit’s court; I want this fight to kick off 2021,” Jung said in an interview with MMA Junkie.

Jung took on the number one Featherweight contender Ortega late in 2020 after the fight was rescheduled due to injury on Ortega’s side. In this matchup, the pair engaged in a five-round striking fight that saw Ortega dominate Jung from start to finish. Look past this loss Jung appears to have his sight set on getting back in the octagon and the win column as soon as possible.

Currently, there has been no word from the UFC or Zabit regarding the matchup and it is unclear if this is the mystery opponent the UFC are working on.
