Stipe Miocic targets UFC 309 title clash with Jon Jones at Madison Square Garden I want that fight

After revealing a planned title fight with Jon Jones has missed a targeted July landing pad, former two-time heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic has sights on a UFC 309 fight with the Rochester native in November at Madison Square Garden.

Miocic, a former two-time undisputed heavyweight champion under the banner of the promotion, has been sidelined for over three years, most recently dropping his title in a stunning second round one-punch KO loss to Francis Ngannou in the pair’s rematch.

As for Jones, the former pound-for-pound number one headlined UFC 285 back in March of last year in his own hiatus-snapping comeback, submitting former interim gold holder, Ciryl Gane with a stunning first round guillotine choke submission win to claim the vacant championship.

And confirming over the course of the weekend how he has struck a verbal agreement with the UFC to make his return in a title fight against Miocic, Jones – according to the Ohio veteran, was initially targeted to defend that crown as soon as July.

Revealing his plans to continue his sidelining until he stands opposite Jones, Miocic confirmed a pairing with the former light heavyweight kingpin is now in the works for UFC 309 in November – for the promotion’s annual card at Madison Square Garden.

“That’s what I want,” Stipe Miocic told Quinton Jackson on the JAXXON Podcast. “I’m gonna wait. I don’t care, I want that fight.”

“They [the UFC] were talking about July, that passed on,” Stipe Miocic explained. “I’m thinking more – maybe November again in New York.

Without a victory since 2020, Miocic headlined UFC 252 in August of that year in a title trilogy rubber match against common-foe, Daniel Cormier, landing a unanimous decision win over the former duel-weight champion to successfully retain the heavyweight crown.

Urijah Faber backs Jose Aldo to cut the line with title fight after UFC 301 he looked amazing

Urijah Faber stopped by to discuss a revolutionary college MMA program that he and others will spearhead. During his time with us, he was also kind enough to share his reaction to Jose Aldo’s magnificent UFC 301 victory and Aldo’s desire to “cut the line” and fight Sean O’Malley for UFC bantamweight gold.

Jose Aldo UFC 301 2 1

Faber and Aldo go way back, having shared the cage together during their title match at WEC 48 way back in 2010. Since then, the two have always been very amicable towards each other, and ‘The California Kid’ is overjoyed to see Aldo’s success at 135lbs in the UFC.

Aldo’s last outing saw him defeat a young up-and-comer named Jonathan Martinez at UFC 301. After the fight, Aldo spoke about his title ambitions and his desire to make one last run at things. Unsurprisingly, this left MMA fans very excited to see a final Jose Aldo run, and Urijah Faber didn’t falter in giving his opinion on the matter.

Urijah Faber speaks on Jose Aldo’s success at 135lbs, would love to see a final title run

When asked about Aldo skipping the line and facing Sean O’Malley for bantamweight gold, Urijah Faber was excited. “I would love to see that,” he said, speaking to Lowkick MMA reporter Makoa Goble. “I think this is one of the best (conditions) that I’ve seen Aldo (in). I think the acclimation to the weight class is big. He was always a big guy. When I fought him at 145lbs, I felt like he was a big guy.”

“I think it really took a while for his body to adjust to being a 135lber, but I thought he looked amazing. We don’t speak the same language, so when I see Aldo, it’s mostly some basic exchanges of greetings and sharing love. We’ve always had a great energy. Before we fought, after we fought, and the years after retirement for me.”

Who do you think that Sean O’Malley will defend his title against next?

MMA icon Demetrious Johson reveals how much money he made from being in UFC video games: 'It's pretty dope'

Demetrious Johnson made a pretty nice chunk of change from the UFC’s popular series of video games.

When he’s not busy collecting gold medals and world championships, ‘Mighty Mouse’ is an avid gamer, playing everything from old school classics like the Mega Man X series to newer stream-friendly offerings like Grand Theft Auto V, Street Fighter, and Elden Ring.

Maybe we can get him to throw on some classic Castlevania one of these days.

Aside from playing video games, Demetrious Johnson has also been featured in a few — namely the UFC series from EA Games, the studio behind Madden, EA Sports FC, Battlefield, Dead Space, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect.

In a recent video on his YouTube channel, the former UFC flyweight world champion shared insight into just how much he made by allowing his likeness to be used by the video game franchise.

“The very first check I got for being in the UFC video game was $25,000,” Johnson said. “Now, a lot of you guys are like, ‘That’s it?’ but think about this. $25,000 just to be in a video game. I don’t think Ryu or Ken have ever gotten a check for $25,000. The next one that came out was UFC 3 and for this bad boy, the next check I ended up getting was $12,500. It’s a lot lower, but I was okay with that because the timeframe of the checks were coming every year or quarter. I wasn’t too worried about it because again, it was free money coming to me.

“After my Ray Borg fight, they offered me the opportunity to be on the front cover and that’s when they came out with the Icon Edition [of the game] with me on the front. For me to be on the cover, I signed an agreement and got a whopping $10,000. It’s pretty dope.”

Demetrious Johnson was featured in UFC 4 despite no longer being signed with the promotion

By the time UFC 4 was released, Demetrious Johnson was already long gone from the UFC, having been sent to ONE Championship as part of a history-making trade between the two global combat sports organizations.

Today, Johnson still sits as the ONE flyweight MMA world champion, but that didn’t stop EA from putting him in their next game due to his immense popularity with consumers.

“I leave the UFC,” Johnson continued. “I’m not part of the company anymore, but my character is still in the game and you guys are playing as my character. Now, the next check I get in the mail is another whopping $25,000 for being in the game and it’s absolutely amazing.

To me, it’s something where your likeness is being used and I think it’s cool that the UFC or EA keeps paying the athletes for their likeness and that people are using me.”

In total, ‘Mighty Mouse’ banked just over 70k for allowing EA and the UFC to use his likeness.

“Me being in the game from 2014 to 2024, I have made is $72,500,” Johnson said. “I think it’s amazing for me to make that kind of money without getting punched in the face.”

The blockbuster programming deal between UFC and ESPN, inked back in 2018 when FOX lowballed the promotion with its scant $200 million offer, is set to expire in early 2025. That means competing networks and digital streamers will soon have an opportunity to make a play for the world’s most valuable combat sports promotion.

“As far as multiple partners, one partner, we’ll see what happens when we get there,” TKO Group Holdings President Mark Shapiro said during this week’s financial update. “Our window opens up in mid-January, it’s a three-month window with the UFC and Walt Disney Company.”

“They’re a great partner. They’re the best marketing machine in the business and they are the No. 1 premiere, automatic destination for sports fans everywhere, certainly in the U.S. That is the first-stop shop, that is the go-to when it comes to looking for sports events. We’re not looking to get away from them. We’re not looking to reduce our commitments, but at the same time, we have a window, we’ll listen, we’ll talk, and we’ll do what’s in the best interests of the UFC going forward.”

Rumors of a potential move to Netflix heated up after WWE scored a 10-year, $5 billion programming deal beginning Jan. 2025. UFC merged with WWE under the TKO Group Holdings, Inc. (TKO) banner early last year, with Shapiro serving as COO. Negotiations for UFC are expected to be handled by Shapiro, along with TKO CEO Ari Emanuel.

“We look at UFC as a premium sports product with great growth ahead of it,” Shapiro continued. “We feel good about the potential package we’ll end up with and we see the demand for live sports is outstripping the supply of premium sports content. The great thing about UFC, let’s not forget, it’s not just a volume product.”

“In fact, it’s not really a volume product. It’s a premium volume product. Sort of like the NFL used to be before Thursday Night Football. It was frankly Sunday and Monday nights. It was driven by scarcity. I think UFC benefits the same way. We’re also both at once a subscriber acquisition tool and a churn antidote. We’re attractive to both digital and linear and we’re year-round. We’re optimistic at the potential package we will end up with.”

Either way, UFC is expected to command a pretty penny for its next broadcasting deal.

Betting odds released for potential hip hop clash between Drake and Kendrick Lamar in boxing and WWE

Rivalries in the world of hip hop are nothing new.

Ever since the genre exploded during the 1980s, diss tracks have been an integral part of the industry for rappers looking to bounce Sucker MCs out of the rap game. Some of the most iconic rivalries in hip hop history include Ice Cube vs. his former group, N.W.A.

Nas and Jay-Z went toe-to-toe in the 90s while Eminem’s protege 50 Cent took his two-decade-long feud with Ja Rule public after both hit it big in the 2000s with a series of hit singles.

Of course, you can’t talk about hip hop rivalries without mentioning the beef between Tupac Shakur and Christopher Wallace aka The Notorious B.I.G. East Coast vs. West Coast was a defining moment in hip hop history. Sadly, both artists lost their lives as a result, each being gunned down in separate drive-by shootings between September 1996 and March 1997.

Oddsmakers weigh in on Hip Hop’s Latest Conflict Drake vs. k-Dot

Today, we have a new beef lighting up social media. Drake and Kendrick Lamar have been dominating headlines and playlists with a series of back-and-forth diss tracks — the most recent being Lamar’s commercially released and critically acclaimed Not Like Us.

Kendrick Lamar

If you want to dive deep into where all of the drama began, The New York Times has got you covered, but just know that things are getting pretty serious between the two modern-day rap gods. So much so that BetOnline.ag is offering odds for a potential boxing match between the Canadian actor-turned-rapper and the Compton, California native.

As it stands, Drake and Lamar are sitting at an even -120, meaning a $100 bet on either fighter could net you $120 in a hypothetical fight.

Drake

They’ve also been offered the opportunity to settle things in the wrestling ring, courtesy of an invite from ‘The Heartbreak Kid’ himself.

“A little Sweet Chin Music goes a long way,” former WWE champion Shawn Michaels wrote on X. “Kendrick Lamar, you and Drake are formally invited to WWE NXT to settle this thing. I’m even offering my services to mediate.”

If they were to compete under the WWE banner, Drake would be a -200 favorite while Lamar sits as a +150 underdog.

Anthony Smith confused by his ongoing beef with UFC champ Alex Pereira: 'It’s just weird to me'

Anthony Smith doesn’t fully understand the beef between himself and champion Alex Periera.

Despite being a long way away from a potential title opportunity, Pereira has taken repeated digs at Smith in recent years, the most recent coming at UFC 301 when ‘Poatan’ hilariously pretended to fall asleep just as ‘Lionheart’ was seconds away from fighting Vitor Petrino.

As an analyst for the UFC, Smith was quick to point out that Pereira’s success inside the Octagon is especially impressive considering his lack of a ground game. That kicked off a back-and-forth between the two 205’ers culminating in Pereira laying down a $50,000 grappling challenge, which Smith gladly accepted.

Since then, Smith has been inundated with comments from hardcore ‘Poatan’ fans suggesting that Smith is doing everything he can to avoid throwing hands with the former GLORY Kickboxing champion.

Anthony Smith

“Here’s another thing I catch a lot of sh*t about,” Smith said on The MMA Hour. “Everywhere, ‘Oh, of course, Anthony wants to grapple Alex Pereira. Of course, he only wants to do one part of mixed martial arts.’ Because it wasn’t my f*cking idea. It wasn’t my f*cking idea. Every single time grappling has been brought up with Alex Pereira, he f*cking brought it up. I’ve never challenged him to anything, not even a fight, because I haven’t been in a position where I can confidently call him out. The answer to whatever the f*ck he wants to do is yes.

“If he wants to fight, box, kickbox, wrestle, f*cking thumb wrestle, checkers, chess, Halo on Xbox, I don’t give a f*ck. Whatever he wants to do, the answer is yes. But I’m not the one who keeps challenging him. If he wants to grapple, yes, I will absolutely do that. I would choose that over everything that I just said, that would be the most fun for me, for sure. But I’m not the one who keeps bringing it up” (h/t MMA Fighting).

Anthony Smith can appreciate Alex Pereira’s sense of humor

As for Pereira’s antics at UFC 301, Anthony Smith didn’t see it happen live, but later watched it back on video and couldn’t help but be amused by the two-division titleholder’s brand of humor.

“It’s weird,” Smith said. “I don’t come at him. I’ve never come for him like that. Of course, you have the title belt in my division, so when people say, ‘What’s your goal?’ I want to fight the champion. I want to fight Alex Pereira. But he goes out of his way to pick at me, which is fine. It doesn’t bother me, I think it’s awesome actually, it’s kind of a lot of fun because he has a sense of humor.

“Like I’ve always said, he’s not this guy that’s just a serial killer mindset. He’s got a sense of humor, he’s funny, he has a really good pulse on social media and he does a good job of molding and weaving in and out of media stuff. He’s very, very intelligent, so I enjoy that part of it. It’s just weird to me.”

Alex Pereira

After losing back-to-back bouts against Magomed Ankalaev and Johnny Walker, ‘Lionheart’ has now won two of his last three, including his first-round guillotine submission victory over the previously undefeated Vitor Petrino in Rio.

Smith currently sits at No. 10 in the light heavyweight rankings.
