DONE! PR rep secretly filmed warning media member not to ask Ronda Rousey fight-related questions

It’s crystal clear that former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s Bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey, took her crushing knockout loss to Holly Holm in Nov. 2015 very, very hard. In fact, “Rowdy” was so broken up that she even had suicidal thoughts creep into her mind.

“Rowdy” has since backed up the revealing statement as a weakness that should not be “condemned,” garnering support from the likes of former Heavyweight boxing champion, Mike Tyson (read more about that here), among others.

But, the one thing that Rousey seemingly does not want to talk about is fighting, and perhaps more specifically, her eventual return to the Octagon. Indeed, company president Dana White has already given her the green light for an extended break from competition, which appeared to work out well for Rousey after filming for upcoming role in the “Road House” remake was delayed once again.

The speculation persists nonetheless. And rather than answer the same question(s) about her fight future, Rousey — who was recently in Vancouver, Canada, to promote her inclusion in the upcoming EA Sports UFC 2 video game (see a sneak peek video here) — would rather just avoid them all together.

It’s a safe assumption that the media representative never thought this clip would ever go viral, but perhaps it wouldn’t be such a big deal if he worked on his delivery. Nonetheless, Rousey did admit that her UFC “shelf life” is relatively short in comparison to her potential acting career, which is probably the last thing that White and Co. want to hear from its biggest box office star.

After UFC veteran Mikey Burnett and his son were shot outside a Tulsa gym yesterday, police have arrested and booked two teenagers on multiple charges.

Earlier today Bloody Elbow reported that veteran MMA fighter Mikey Burnett was recovering from three bullet wounds to the abdomen as a result of an attempted robbery last night in Tulsa’s eastside.

According to NewsOn6 Tulsa Police Department have since arrested two suspects in connection with the incident.

The accused are Harold Thompson, 16, and Kywaun Washington, 17.

Police stated that both Thompson and Washington admitted to trying to rob Mikey Burnett in the parking lot of Rib Crib restaurant, close to 10 Gym (where Burnett and his son Freddie had been working out).

According to an arrest report, Thompson approached Burnett around 7:25 p.m. last night and asked the former UFC welterweight contender if he could borrow his cell phone. Burnett obliged and reached for his phone. As he did this Thompson raised a pistol to Burnett’s face and demanded his wallet.

The report states that Burnett was shot multiple times as he removed the gun from his face. Freddie Burnett, who was stood on the opposite side of a truck, came to his father’s side when this happened and joined his father in fighting with Thompson. At this point, Washington joined the scuffle. During the melee Freddie was shot in the leg.

According to a witness, Thompson and Washington then ran from the Burnetts and fled the scene in a 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora. The witness was able to record the vehicle’s license plate number. This information was crucial to the police’s apprehension of the alleged attackers.

Both Thompson and Washington have been booked on one count of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon. Both men have faced felony charges in the past.

Both Mikey and Freddie Burnett are expected to recover from their wounds.

Despite having to deal with a last minute switch up in the main event, the UFC has once again released its usual Countdown show ahead of this weekend’s (March 5, 2016) UFC 196 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Headlining the blockbuster card will be a welterweight clash between reigning featherweight champion the “Notorious” Conor McGregor and outspoken bad boy Nate Diaz.

McGregor was originally scheduled to move up in weight to challenge Rafael dos Anjos for the lightweight strap, but the 155-pound champion was forced out of the bout with a broken foot.

The Irishman has won all seven of his UFC bouts including six finishes. He is also coming off of a spectacular 13-second knockout of former long-time 145-pound title holder Jose Aldo.

Diaz recently returned from nearly a year long layoff, scoring an impressive decision victory over Michael Johnson last December.

That’s not all for the card, however, as newly minted bantamweight ruler Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm will defend her title for the very first time against former Strikeforce title holder Miesha “Cupcake” Tate in the co-main event.

Holm is coming off of a massive upset victory over former champion Ronda Rousey last November, a breath taking finish that not many saw coming.

Tate, on the other hand, has compiled a four fight win streak since losing to Rousey for a second time in 2013.

Take a deeper look into the preparations of these four fighters with full Countdown video below courtesy of the UFC:

Michael Bisping’s controversial win over Anderson Silva bumped him way up in the middleweight rankings.

The UFC’s return to London featured one of the stranger main events in recent history, with Michael Bisping nearly getting knocked out looking for his mouthpiece but going on to win a unanimous decision over Anderson Silva. That was really all there was relevance-wise on the show from a rankings standpoint, but that result did cause a big shift in the middleweight ladder.

In addition, an injury apparently has led to a champion sliding down the pound-for-pound rankings a bit.

Without further ado, here’s a look at all the changes this week.

P4PRafael dos Anjos has not had a good last few weeks. First he broke his foot and was forced out of his UFC 196 title defense with Conor McGregor. Now he he fallen three spots on the P4P list. RDA had been in a tie for the four spot with Dominick Cruz, but is down to seven now. Luke Rockhold moved up two spots from seven to five, while Fabricio Werdum moved up one to six.

Heavyweight – Just one minor change. Ruslan Magomedov moved into a tie with Oleksiy Oliynik for the 14 spot.

Light HeavyweightJan Blachowicz moved up one spot to 14. And Nikita Krylov entered the list at 15. Oh, LHW.

Middleweight – Bisping’s big win moved him back into the top five, settling in at four. That’s up three spots. That dropped Lyoto Machida, Silva, and Tim Kennedy down one to five, six, and seven respectively. Also, Thales Leites‘ loss to Gegard Mousasi dropped him two spots from 10 to 12. Uriah Hall and Derek Brunson moved up to 10 and 11. Mousasi didn’t move at all and remains in the nine spot. C.B. Dollaway is also back onto the list at 15.

WelterweightHector Lombard quietly inches back up the list, in at 13 this week. Thiago Alves dropped to 14, with Albert Tumenov dropping to 15.

LightweightDustin Poirier moved into a tie for the ten spot with Al Iaquinta. Evan Dunham and Michael Chiesa flip-flopped the 13 and 14 spots.

Featherweight – No changes.

BantamweightJimmie Rivera moved up two spots to 11, dropping John Lineker to 12 and Frankie Saenz to 13. Cody Garbrandt makes his rankings debut at 15.

FlyweightJussier Formiga passed Ian McCall for the four spot out of nowhere. Also, Dustin Ortiz inched into the top ten, dropping Ali Bagautinov to 11.

Women’s BantamweightValentina Shevchenko moved back ahead of the woman she just beat, Sarah Kaufman for the ten spot.

Women’s StrawweightKarolina Kowalkiewicz took the ten spot from Joanne Calderwood, who continues to drop quickly.

Jon Jones: Rematch with Alexander Gustafsson — not Daniel Cormier — more crucial to UFC legacy

Jon Jones is a little under two months from getting the chance to reclaim the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight title he never actually lost in a fight, as he takes on current division kingpin, Daniel Cormier, in the main event of UFC 197 on April 23, 2016.

More on that here.

For “Bones,” a win over “DC” will not only get him his hardware back, but prove that he is still the best 205-pound fighter on the planet. An issue Cormier is forced to fend off since winning the title in 2015.

But as Jones recently told MMA Junkie, a rematch and subsequent victory against Cormier isn’t the win that is going to erase any doubt, at least in his mind, since he already defeated the Olympian via unanimous decision at UFC 182.

Instead, it’s a do-over against Alexander Gustafsson that is more crucial for his legacy, as “Bones” says he needs to defeat “The Mauler” more convincingly next time around.

I have those feelings a little more with Gustafsson than I do with Daniel. I already beat (Cormier) by unanimous decision, so I don’t really have this feeling where I have to put him away or get rid of him once and for all. I just need to fight him because he has the belt right now. That’s really what this is all about for me. I feel that way more about Gustafsson. I really need to fight him again just to get rid of all doubt.”

Jones and Gustafsson put on an epic battle at UFC 165 in late 2013 that saw both men have shining moments throughout the five-round affair. And though Jon was awarded a unanimous decision, many felt that bout was much closer.

Some even believed Gus should have gotten the nod.

A rematch between the two has long been at the top of fight fans’ wish lists, but with Jon moving on to face new challenges and Gustafsson suffering crucial defeats since that night, it’s something that won’t happen for quite some time.

Especially since “The Mauler” isn’t in a huge hurry to step back into the cage.

Of course, Cormier has his own agenda, and that’s to take out “Bones” in order to prove to all doubters that he truly is the best 205-pound fighter in town.
