Scoring the most impressive victory of her Octagon tenure to date, crushing strawweight hitter, Amanda Lemos becomes just the second fighter to defeat Brazilian compatriot, Marina Rodriguez — following in the footsteps of champion, Carla Esparza, as she rounds off UFC Vegas 64 with a brutal TKO stoppage.

Lemos, who entered tonight’s main event clash off the back of a guillotine win over Michelle Waterson, had suffered a prior standing arm-triangle submission loss to compatriot and former champion, Jessica Andrade in her first main event outing under the UFC banner.

Likely giving up a close first round against Santa Catarina striker, Rodriguez, Amanda Lemos showed her explosive grappling chops in the second frame, tripping Rodriguez to the ground in the clinch, before threatening both neck crank and rear-naked chokes.

In the early goings of the third, however, a massive right hand landed on the hairline of Rodriguez, splitting the Brazilian open and sending her backward, appearing out on her feet. Closing the distance and the proverbial show, Lemons sprung with a series of follow-up shots on the feet, landing a stoppage success as she calls for a shot at strawweight gold.

Marina Rodriguez and Amanda Lemos squared off in a Strawweight contest earlier tonight (Sat., Nov. 5, 2022) at UFC Vegas 64 from inside UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Both women found their range early with kicks and feints. About 90 seconds into the fight, the pair traded power shots while continuing the feeling out process. A big Lemos low kick spun Rodriguez around. Really, it was an uneventful, low output round from both women, but Lemos botched a takedown attempt in the closing 30 seconds and gave Rodriguez top position.

And the round too?

The feints and kicks battle continued into the second round. When the fight moved into the clinch, however, Lemos scored a sweet foot sweep and took her opponent’s back. She nearly secured the rear naked choke right away, but Rodriguez was able to fight hands just enough to survive. Rodriguez scrambled her way back to half guard, and Lemos stayed heavy from top position. Rodriguez was stuck until the end of the round, although she didn’t land anything too devastating.

The athletes seemed more ready to engage in the third, and Rodriguez landed a big right early on. Out of nowhere, Lemos landed a cracking right hand that stunned her opponent! Rodriguez backed into the fence and covered up, and a Lemos flurry brought about the referee’s intervention.

It was a bit of an early stoppage in my opinion, but Lemos just made an argument for a UFC title shot! Based on how drastically a single shot changed the fight, it makes sense why both women were so hesitant through the first ten minutes.

Result: Amanda Lemos defeats Marina Rodriguez via third-round knockout

Neil Magny

Perennial UFC welterweight contender, Neil Magny is back to winning ways — and can now officially call himself the most winningest fighting in the history of the weight class, surpassing former undisputed champion, Georges St-Pierre with tonight’s co main event D’Arce choke win against Daniel Rodriguez at UFC Vegas 64.

Magny, who entered tonight’s fight against Californian striker, Rodriguez grasping a stunning 19 welterweight wins in his UFC tenure — chalked up win number 20 tonight, and surpassed St-Pierre subsequently, as the most winningest welterweight in the history of the weight class in the UFC.

Struggling with the heavy hands of Rodriguez throughout their three round co-main event, Magny managed to latch onto the veteran’s neck at the fence in the third round — initially threatening with an anaconda choke.

Snapping Rodriguez to the mat and switching his grip, Magny settled for a D’Arce choke, snatching up the leg and forcing the submission in the final frame.
