Gallery: Felice Herrig Bares It All In Latest ‘Muscle & Fitness’ Shoot

UFC strawweight contender Felice Herrig has never been afraid to use her sexuality as a marketing tool, and rightfully so. She’s got a rockin’ bod, for starters, and at 31 years old, she’s been a fighter in the game for longer than 90% of her competition. Why not celebrate the fruits of all that labor, I guess is what I’m saying.

Her recent shoot with Muscle & Fitness magazine, however, took things to a whole. notha. level. Taking a temporary leave of absence from MMA ever since her loss to Paige VanZant in April, Herrig bared in all — tastefully, of course — in a pictorial that brings to mind Ronda Rousey’s Maxim Hot 100 photos. I don’t know why photographers seem to have such an obsession with hand wraps and nudity, but I fully endorse it for the time being.

Check out a handful of Herrig’s scorching photos in our gallery after the jump, then head over to Muscle and Fitness to check out more.

SportsPotato: Cardinals Center Fielder Peter Bourjos KO’s Teammate With Vicious Sliding Knee

(via Getty)

With all the vicious knockouts taking place at Fight Night 75 and Bellator 143 over the weekend, you’d think it would be damn near impossible for any non-combat sport to top MMA in terms of pure violence. But then, the work week rolls in and professional baseball somehow takes the cake.

In the 7th inning of last night’s Cardinals-Pirates game, Pittsburgh third baseman Josh Harrison drilled a shot to center field, drawing in both center fielder Peter Bourjos and left fielder Stephen Piscotty in at break neck speed in an attempt to field the ball. Piscotty opted for a head first dive to make the play, while Bourjos went with a knee-first slide. The resulting collision was undeniably one of the most horrific knockouts in professional baseball history.

Piscotty was immediately rendered unconscious by the brutal knee and eventually had to be carted off the field on a stretcher. The good news is that the rookie only appeared to suffer a concussion from the collision and not the broken jaw most MMA fans would have put him on as soon as he started bleeding from his mouth like a stuck pig. (Was that too far? I don’t even know where the line is when it comes to empathy anymore. MMA has truly desensitized me.)

Let’s hope Piscotty is able to have a quick turnaround from such a horrendous injury. In the meantime, God damn, baseball. You scary.

Fight Night 75 Highlights/Results: Barnett Decisions Nelson in Slugfest, Uriah Hall Scores the KO of the Century, + More

(via UFC on FOX)

The UFC returned to action on Sunday morning after a nearly unprecedented 3-week hiatus, delivering a star-studded(ish) card from Japan that saw Josh Barnetta lover of Japanese culture if there ever was one, face off against Roy Nelson, inventor and sole proprietor of the “triple bacon cheeseburger” sushi roll, in the evening’s main event.

Despite not competing in the cage since a quick KO loss to Travis Browne in December of 2013, Barnett showed up to the contest looking to be in the best shape of his life, and it paid benefits over the course of the five round affair. “The Warmaster” set a UFC heavyweight record 146 significant strikes and UFC record 95 significant clinch strikes en route to a decision victory over “Big Country,” who you can guarantee got screwed out of a performance bonus by his good buddy Dana White when all was said and done.

After the jump: Highlights from Uriah Hall‘s shocking KO of Gegard Mousasi, Diego Brandao‘s slightly less shocking KO of Katsunori Kikuno, and more.

After the jump: Highlights from Uriah Hall‘s shocking KO of Gegard Mousasi, Diego Brandao‘s slightly less shocking KO of Katsunori Kikuno, and more.

In the co-main event of the evening, Uriah Hall tried to make it two in a row over heavy favorite Gegard Mousasi, who was riding back-to-back wins over Dan Henderson and Costas Philippou. Save a slick kimura from guard attempt by Hall, the opening frame was absolutely dominated by the smart ground work of Sweet Sassy Moo-sassy (nickname pending), who nearly finished Hall with an arm triangle and rear-naked choke at the beginning and end of the round.

Of course, all second rounds start on the feet, as they say (citation needed), and Hall took full advantage of that, unleashing a jumping, spinning headkick to flying knee combo that was totally ninja, as Sterling Archer might call it. A few follow-up punches sealed the deal on what would’ve easily been the greatest comeback of the night, if not for…

Keita. Nakamura. Ladies. And. Gent. Le. Men.

Winless in his first three promotional appearances between 2006-2008, Keita Nakamura fought and scraped his way back to the UFC with four straight finishes under the DEEP banner. Unfortunately, two and a half rounds into his fight with Li Jingliang yesterday, it looked as if that goose egg would remain in his win column. Nakamura had been dominated on the ground, rocked on the feet, and all around outworked by “The Leech”…right up until he snatched up a rear-naked choke that caused Jingliang to face plant on the mat in one of the most brutal “Did He Died?” moments in recent memory.

Nakamura was awarded a $50,000 performance bonus for his efforts, and improves to 31-6 overall.

In the night’s quickest performance, Diego Brandao tore through Katsunori Kikuno in less than 30 seconds, obliterating the local legend with a pair of well-placed right hands that left Kikuno turtled up against the fence. Not much to take away from this fight, really, other than two things we already knew:

1.) Diego Brandao is deadly in the first five minutes.

2.) Kikuno really, *really* needs to abandon this “leave your hands at your sides and dare his opponent to KO him” style of stand-up.

The full list of results of Fight Night 75 are below.

Main card
Josh Barnett def. Roy Nelson via unanimous decision
Uriah Hall def. Gegard Mousasi via second-round TKO
Kyoji Horiguchi def. Chico Camus via unanimous decision
Takeya Mizugaki def. George Roop via unanimous decision
Diego Brandao def. Katsunori Kikuno via first-round TKO
Mizuto Hirota vs. Teruto Ishihara ruled a draw

Undercard
Keita Nakamura def. Li Jingliang via technical submission at 2:17 of R3
Nick Hein def. Yusuke Kasuya via unanimous decision
Kajan Johnson def.Naoyuki Kotani via unanimous decision
Shinsho Anzai def. Roger Zapata via third-round TKO

MMA In the Wild: Bully Picks Fight With Blind Kid, Receives Instant Karma

(Photo/tip via UPROXX)

I can’t even fathom what level of coward/scumbag/sadist you’d have to be to pick a fight with a blind kid, but as a guy who spends most of his days watching “street justice” videos, I’m *almost* glad the skater punk (pictured lying in a heap above) did, if only for the swift and brutal retribution he received as a result.

Video after the jump.

So here’s the scenario, as CBS LA tells it:

A student who is reportedly blind was being slapped around and punched by one student as several people looked on. The victim and suspect know each other and have a history of not getting along. Yesterday the victim walked past the suspect and they got into an argument.

That’s when a third kid (identified as Cody Pines) stepped in and absolutely leveled the unidentified “suspect” with a right hand. The bully’s friends then try to intervene, but are clearly too scared by what they just witnessed to actually get physical about it. Instead, they opt to help their pal to his feet as Pines gives them a Dana White-esque tongue lashing.

“I swear to God, if you fucking fuck  with this kid again, I will  fuck you up!” he shouts, no doubt forcing one of the group to evacuate his bowels.

This was some straight-out-of-a-movie heroism, which of course means that Pines has since been suspended from school as a result of his actions. Thankfully, someone started a petition to right this wrong and it has already received 30,000+ signatures.

As for the bully, well, he has been arrested on misdemeanor battery charges, not to mention thoroughly embarrassed for being the punk that he is. I can only hope a handful of future ass whoopings lie in store for him, as well as his friends, his family, and the people who just stood around watching as he took shots at a blind kid. Seriously, every last one of you are the *worst*.

Vagab Vagabov Catches Five Month Suspension For After-the-Bell Cheap Shots at WSOF 23

One thing we overlooked in our gif-heavy recap of last weekend’s MMA action was perhaps the most glaring error of judgement of them all — aside from Bellator’s decision to bench Linton Vassell for a medical suspension that he didn’t have. It occurred during the featured bout of the prelims in a middleweight clash between Dagestani Vagab Vagabov and late-replacement opponent Brian Grinnell, and boy oh boy was it a humdinger of a douchenozzle move.

You see, Vagab Vagabov — aside from sounding like the name of a B-rate Austin Powers villain — is also kind of a dick. Which is why, after the referee waved off the fight after a flurry of Vagabov punches and knees landed on a covered up (but still standing) Grimmell, the undefeated Dagestani decided to throw two of the most blatant, unnecessary after-the-bell cheap shots ever committed (with all due disrespect to Paul Daley).

“Stop! Ref, take control!” shouted announcer Chael Sonnen in the immediate aftermath. And while the ref eventually managed to do so, it was Ray Sefo & Co. that laid the real hammer down, suspending Vagabov for five months as of this morning, as MMAJunkie reports.

Vagabov, who trains out of Jackson-Wink MMA in New Mexico, is additionally facing discipline from the Arizona Boxing & MMA Commission pending an investigation of the incident.

“I spoke with Vagab and his team, and they were very apologetic for his actions,” said WSOP vice president Abdelaziz said. “Vagab got caught up in the moment and expressed remorse for his mistake, but as a company, we simply cannot let moments like this go without addressing them directly. We hope this penalty sends a strong message to everyone on our roster that such infractions simply will not be tolerated.”

And good on you for doing so, WSOF, but I think a more obvious solution lies right in front of you. That’s right, I’m talking about Vagabov vs. Palhares in a classic “Battle of the A-Holes” match. Winner gets a set of steak knives. Loser gets fired.

Oh, have I got your attention now?

Quote(s) of the Day: Urijah Faber Lobs Racist, Sexist, Basically Everything-ist Accusations at Duane Ludwig

(I only counted 280 “likes” and 372 “dudes.” No way that was actually Faber on the phone. via MMAFighting)

So as we all know, the fallout between Duane Ludwig and Team Alpha Male — specifically, TAM leader Urijah Faber — has been a bit heated, with both sides lobbing some pretty strong accusations at one another. First, Ludwig claimed that TJ Dillashaw was the only fighter on the team who trained “like a champion.” Faber then hit back, calling Ludwig “difficult to deal with” and his eventual departure from the team “a breath of fresh air.”

Recently, Ludwig attempted to apologize for his comments, while maintaining that Dillashaw “trained differently” than the rest of TAM.

“I say some stupid stuff sometimes,” Ludwig said. “And they’re training at their full potential. T.J. just really wants it. If you look at it in comparison, there’s a difference. You can just see it, you can feel it. And it’s just different with T.J.”

When asked to respond to Ludwig’s quote unquote apology on yesterday’s MMA Hour, Faber had had enough, it seemed, and unleashed a barrage of harsh claims Ludwig’s way in a lengthy, eye-opening interview.

When asked to respond to Ludwig’s quote unquote apology on yesterday’s MMA Hour, Faber had had enough, it seemed, and unleashed a barrage of harsh claims Ludwig’s way in a lengthy, eye-opening interview.

Accusation #1: Ludwig is a sexist who refuses to work with women

“I had a girl from Alaska who said that Duane keeps on saying these comments. And first off, Duane refused to work with any females. He said, ‘I just want to tell you, I’m not supportive of women’s MMA. I won’t be working with anybody, I won’t be working with Paige (VanZant), I’m not going to be working with Nicky, I’m not going to work with Veronica. I don’t believe in it.’ Okay. That was an issue.”

Accusation #2: Ludwig has a penchant for making racist jokes

“The second thing was, he was saying racial things. And that’s what I’m saying when I say, things aren’t jokes just because you laughed at them, especially if they’re hurtful. So I had two of the African-American guys on our team who approached me and said, ‘this is getting real uncomfortable. It’s funny one time, I guess, when he says stuff like, all the black guys at the end of the line. But he’s saying it every single day.’ Then one guy says, ‘every single time I’m in the gym and I’m talking to a girl, Duane yells across the gym, hey, so-and-so, all black guys 25 feet away from the females.’ He says, ‘I get it, he thinks it’s funny, whatever. But he keeps doing it and it’s really getting on my nerves.’”

Accusation #3: Ludwig’s financial instability has made him a monster

“He’s getting his salary, then he starts charging everybody for privates. And there’s a point where T.J. (Dillashaw) is like, ‘man, I don’t know what to do. Duane is bleeding me. I’m doing his videos for him after class, I’m doing this, and he’s still charging me for privates. I need to have a talk with him.’ T.J. has a talk with him. He’s charging everyone, and I feel bad for [Ludwig]. He’s selling peanut butter at the front desk, he’s doing all these things to make extra cash, he’s leaving every single weekend to go do a seminar, even if it’s for a couple hundred bucks. I’m like dude, I appreciate the hustle, but let’s just settle down. Let’s let the apple grow into a ripe, red apple before you start trying to pull it off the tree when it’s green and sour. Give it some time.

“So then it comes to my first fight that he corners me. I have my partner Scott who’s in Texas who owns Torque, and so Duane wants to wear his own shirt in my corner with a conflicting brand, Fear the Fighter, instead of Torque. … I said, ‘Duane, dude, my partner is going to be pissed off. Like, you didn’t okay this with him if you wear another brand. No one talked to him, he’s going to be pissed. Can you wear like a Duane Bang shirt or one of the other sponsors or something like that?’ This is 30 minutes before I’m about to go fight my fight. I said, ‘here dude, here’s this phone number. If you can call and get the okay from him’ — granted, this is 30 minutes before I’m about to go out and fight, and this is the first time having him in the corner — ‘if you can talk to my partner and get him to okay wearing the shirt, then you’re good.’

“Apparently, I didn’t find this out until afterward, he tries to shake down my partner for $300. He’s trying to get my guy to pay him $300 to wear my shirt, this and that. I didn’t know until way later when my partner told me, and it just baffled me.

In addition to all this, Faber also called Ludwig a “bully” and “tyrant” who is threatening trying to sue Team Alpha Male for not fulfilling a contract which he himself refused to sign.

While I’m not quite prepared to throw Ludwig under the bus based on hearsay, even though Faber has always struck me as stand-up, honest guy, an r/MMA thread has compiled a few things of note that certainly don’t help Ludwig’s case here.

Example #1: During the interview, Faber repeatedly brought up the notion that Ludwig is a very emotionally unstable guy, especially so when he’s interrupted. Knowing that, check out how Ludwig reacts when Joe Rogan dares to interrupt him during his appearance  appearance on Rogan’s podcast back in August of 2013. The first instance happens at 47:08 in (queued up below) and the second just over a minute later (at 48:41).

Brian Redban’s reaction to this act of insolence is just priceless.

Example #2: Faber also recounted a story about Ludwig’s first time cornering a TAM member — Danny Castillo at UFC on FUEL 7 — which is cringe worthy to say the least. Apparently Ludwig, broke and sponsorless (minus a peanut butter company who was allegedly paying him in their product), showed up to the event offering to wear the signature shirt of any fighter competing on the card for $250, regardless of the fact that he was cornering Castillo. According to Faber, Ludwig hawked his services as close to half an hour before Castillo’s fight with Paul Sass.

Here’s an interview with Ludwig from that night. You’ll notice he is wearing a Tom “Kong” Watson shirt. Tom Watson competed at FUEL TV 7 just two fights before Danny Castillo.

There’s also the fact that Ludwig’s reaction to Faber’s comments in a follow-up interview with MMAFighting today didn’t exactly paint him as an innocent party.

On the sexism accusations: “I wouldn’t say I’m against women’s MMA. I do feel uneasy seeing a woman get punched in the face. That, I don’t like. Women’s grappling and wrestling, that’s cool. But seeing a woman punched in the face, I don’t really necessarily like that. There’s awesome women’s fights, but it still makes me feel a bit weird. But yeah, I don’t like to train women.”

On the racism accusations: “I don’t know what the hell he’s talking about. There’s jokes floating around the gym all the time. For him to point me out, like what the hell dude?”

On the financial issues with TAM: ”We definitely had a couple lapses. Every time we talked I thought one thing was said and then apparently something else was said. So there’s multiple times when we had what I thought were agreements and the result was always me getting short-handed. I don’t get it. That’s why we always had problems, because we always had a conversation, we’d agree on certain things and when it came time for certain things to happen, they wouldn’t.”

Again, there’s a lot of he said/she said going on here, but if it was me who had just been accused of being an emotionally unstable racist/sexist with financial issues, I might have brought a stronger counter-argument to the table than, “What the hell dude?” Again, this is just me. But what say you, Nation? Do you find any truth in Faber’s accusations, or is it just another case of egos clashing?
