UFC on FOX 2 is almost here and the main event between Rashad Evans and Phil Davis is only five days away. Some may be focused on the recent matchup of Michael Bisping versus Chael Sonnen as the two are vilified in the UFC, but it’s the main event which holds the meat of the card.

While the winner of Sonnen-Bisping will get a title shot based on the merits of their mouth, Davis and Evans will have gotten it because of their skills in the cage. Any grudges or personal matters which might help sell the fight are just icing on the cake.

Their match might be an exciting battle or a long grueling wresting match. Either way there are a few reasons why fans should be amped for the fight.

Josh Neer is doing much better in his second run in the octagon then he did in his first. He just won his second fight in a row last night and did it by choking out fellow octagon veteran Duane Ludwig.

He was able to apply it so quickly and with such strength that Ludwig didn’t even tap and Neer had to inform the referee that his opponent was out.

Not only did Neer get to look like a caring human being on Friday night, but he was able to move his career forward as well.

He had never won two fights in a row in the UFC in his last go with the company so he is in uncharted territory. Even with his impressive win, he still doesn’t have much of a name and needs to build himself s streak before fans see him step up to main event status.

He did what he always has.

He arrived joking and full of smiles without any air of attitude or anger and then showed up and fought on fight night.

He also showed a few things that we have also come to expect from him. Namely, that he almost lost the fight and just barely came back to win it.

That leads to some other questions as well. Ones that fans won’t get to know the answer to until he steps into the cage again.

Easton may have a lot of promise, but before he can challenge top fighters and champions, he has to earn his way.
