The Black House MMA gym is a legendary institution, with its walls having surrounded many of the sport’s biggest names. That said, the reputation of the training center has taken a hard hit over the past 12 months. With news breaking from Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports that possible greatest fighter of all time Anderson Silva failed a pre-fight drug test for two anabolic steroids ahead of UFC 183, a magnifying glass has been put over his longtime camp…and that up-close look is not flattering.

According to Bloody Elbow’s Mookie Alexander, Silva’s failed drug test is the third time a Black House fighter has been popped for the steroid drostanolone over the past 12 months. At UFC 175 (which took place in July 2014), Black House fighter Kevin Casey failed a post-fight drug test following a win over Bubba Bush. Less than a month later, Brian Ortega did the same after defeating Mike de la Torre at UFC on Fox 12. Both men were suspended, fined and had their wins overturned to no-contests as a result.

That, obviously, is not good.

Black House has multiple locations in the United States and Brazil. While Silva trains in Rio de Janeiro, Ortega and Casey both train in California. Turning back the clock a bit, Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante, another Brazilian member of Black House, tested positive for stanozolol, another anabolic steroid, in 2012 following a Strikeforce fight with Mike Kyle.

It is difficult to draw any specific conclusions regarding what may be happening with the gyms, but the results are undeniably troubling. Three fighters under the same camp umbrella failing drug tests for the same anabolic steroid within such a short window of time seems to be exiting coincidence territory.

What the future may hold for Silva is unknown at this time, but stick with Bleacher Report for more details as they become available.
