The UFC teams up with McFarlane Toys for new line of ultra-detailed action figures and digital collectibles

McFarlane Toys has signed a new licensing agreement with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Per an official press release, the collectible toy company will “immortalize some of UFC’s most iconic athletes” via a collection of six-inch ultra-detailed and fully posable action figures in addition to a new line of digital collectibles.

“Since UFC burst onto the sports scene, this brand has been growing bigger and bigger every year,” said Todd McFarlane, Founder and CEO McFarlane Toys. “It now stands as one of the premiere brands in sports, as hundreds of millions of fans globally have embraced its thrilling, non-stop action. And now, for us to be able to do some cool things with authentic-looking figures, both physically and digitally, it’s going to be a real treat. I can’t wait!”

The new UFC action figures are expected to hit shelves and online retailers worldwide this fall. Digital products will be redeemable at mcfarlanetoys.digital, offering fans a way to seamlessly integrate their physical and virtual collections.

“We’re excited to partner with McFarlane Toys, one of the most respected manufacturers of intricate collectible figures in the industry,” said Tracey Bleczinski, Senior Vice President Global Consumer Products at UFC. “UFC fans are among the most passionate in all of sports and we are confident in McFarlane’s ability to deliver authenticity to our fans with a collection of unique, accurately crafted figures, inspired by some of UFC’s most elite athletes.”

Comic Book icon Todd McFarlane brings his stories to life with McFarlane Toys

Before founding McFarlane Toys in 1994, Todd McFarlane was an accomplished comic book artist best known for his work on Amazing Spider-Man and for creating the web-slinger’s fan-favorite villains Venom and Carnage. In 1992, McFarlane broke away from Marvel Comics and established Image Comics alongside six other popular artists, including Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld.

MacFarlane

It was there that McFarlane introduced Spawn, a horror-fantasy series he first came up with in high school before giving it a 90s-style update. Spawn was a massive hit right out of the gate with issue #1 selling 1.7 million copies. The comic is still going to this very day, printing its 350th issue in February.

MacFarlane

Two years after the launch of Image, McFarlane teamed up with Mattel to produce action figures based on his comic book characters. After the two couldn’t come to terms on how to make the toys, McFarlane reclaimed the rights and launched his own company, McFarlane Toys.

Over the last 30 years, McFarlane Toys has produced ultra-detailed figures for practically every property under the sun, including everything from comic book characters to film icons, sports figures, and even legendary musicians like KISS and The Beatles.

Jorge Masvidal reveals reason for Nate Diaz fight date change: 'This guy's such a diva and a coward'

Jorge Masvidal is not thrilled about having to wait another five weeks to get his hands on Nate Diaz.

Originally, ‘Gamebred’ and the ‘Stockton Samurai’ were scheduled to step inside the squared circle on June 1. However, those plans quickly changed when it was revealed that the UFC would hold its next pay-per-view event on that same date.

Now, Masvidal and Diaz’s long-awaited rematch will go down on Saturday, July 6. In addition to the date change, the event will also switch up its location, moving from the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California to the Honda Center in Anaheim.

Jorge Masvidal vs. Nate Diaz

“You don’t want to go up against other dates and other fight events,” Masvidal told ESPN. “Especially, you don’t want to go up against UFC. So, from the beginning, I was trying to switch this date. Nate’s a f*cking idiot. He was adamant about staying on that date because he’s not a UFC employee no more and, ‘I don’t have to do nothing for the UFC,’ and this and that.

“It just doesn’t make sense, especially when I know Nate thinks he’s a boxer now because he boxed the Jake Paul guy, but he’s not a boxer. He doesn’t have a boxing fanbase. The fanbase that he has is from MMA and UFC. So, why go up against our own fanbase? Me as a promoter, I’m thinking I don’t even want to do it. I know a lot of fight fans would buy both or watch both events, but in my opinion, why even do it if there were dates that weren’t conflicting?” (h/t MMA Mania).

Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz set to run back their instant classic at UFC 244

When Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz meet in The Golden State, it will be their second time competing against one another, the first coming at UFC 244 in 2019 for the inaugural BMF title. ‘Gamebred’ won the fight via a doctor’s stoppage following the conclusion of the third round. It was the last fight Masvidal would win inside the Octagon before retiring from MMA in 2023.

Jorge Masvidal

“I don’t like that another month and a week got added to this already long training camp,” Masvidal said. “In hindsight, it doesn’t really matter because I’m making the transition from one sport to another. So the more time I get to practice and perfect my craft, sharpen my tools, it doesn’t hurt me or bother me.

“Now, Nate Diaz’s ass is somebody that does bother me and I want to f*ck him up. We could have had this fight at an earlier date but this guy’s such a f*cking diva and a f*cking coward that he wouldn’t want to fight in Miami, didn’t want to fight in Texas because things didn’t go his way in Texas against Jake Paul. Didn’t want to fight in New York. Didn’t want to fight in California unless it was in his hometown. I’m here pent up, frustrated, training my ass off every day just to get in there with this guy, and f*cking hurt him.”

Nate Diaz walked away from the UFC in 2022 following a fourth-round submission victory over Tony Ferguson. 11 months later, he would make his boxing debut in a 10-round clash with YouTube star Jake Paul. ‘The Problem Child’ won the bout via unanimous decision.

Merab Dvalishvili involved in five-car accident in New York City I was in a huge accident i got hit

Merab Dvalishvili was involved in a five-car car accident in New York City on Tuesday.

The No. 1 ranked bantamweight contender was in the backseat of a car and he shared a video with all the airbags deployed. After getting out of the car, Merab Dvalishvili showed several of the other cars involved in the accident, which looked to be quite serious.

‘’I am in New York for one day, couple hours, and I got in a huge accident,” Dvalishvili said in the video (via MMAMania). “I was in a Uber, and our car got hit by some other cars. I was sitting here. I got hit. Thank God I’m okay.’’

Merab Dvalishvili told to fight somewhere else Dana White avoid title fight

As Dvalishvili says, luckily he is okay as the accident looked to be quite scary as cars were severely damaged, but the bantamweight contender is walking away from the incident healthy.

Merab Dvalishvili focused on getting Sean O’Malley fight

Merab Dvalishvili is currently the No. 1 ranked bantamweight and is coming off a win over Henry Cejudo.

Dvalishvili is likely the next title contender for Sean O’Malley but after UFC 299, ‘Suga’ called out Ilua Topuria which frustrated Dvalishvili at the time.

“He’s a little bit stupid. He should mention my name and he should call me out to make an even bigger fight. Me and him, we are fighting. There is no other fights for him or for me. This fight has to happen. I don’t know, somehow he’s not mentioning my name and he’s not calling me out, doesn’t make this fight an even bigger fight,” Dvalishvili continued. “I was very surprised (when O’Malley called out Topuria). Like, what is this guy doing? Just either be quiet or don’t call out somebody who’s not gonna fight you… Sean, it’s not like he cleaned (out) the division or something… I was very surprised. I was mad actually that he don’t call me out,” Dvalishvili said to MMAJunkie.

Since then, O’Malley has said Dvalishvili will be next but no date has been scheduled for the highly-anticipated bantamweight title fight.

Breaking Down Demetrious Johnson’s Style Of Fighting

Guest post by Evolve MMA, Asia’s premier championship brand for martial arts with the most number of World Champions on the planet. Named as the #1 ranked martial arts organization in Asia by CNN, Yahoo! Sports, FOX Sports, and more, Evolve MMA is the best gym to learn MMA in Singapore.

Demetrious Johnson is one of the least intimidating men who is constantly mentioned when pound-for-pound mixed martial arts rankings are discussed. Standing at 1.60 meters tall, the appropriately named “Mighty Mouse” is the poster child of what a mixed martial artist should be.

DJ is excellent in all phases of fighting. He’s one of the best strikers in his division, and the same goes for his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills. His wrestling is good enough to cause problems for Olympic-level wrestlers like Henry Cejudo.

Dissecting The Mighty Mouse

Demetrious Johnson always steps into the cage with a well-thought-out game plan, and he typically always finds a way to impose his will on his opponents. This article will explore the little things that make DJ one of the greatest champions in MMA history.

1) World-Class Striking Game

Demetrious Johnson Body Kick

If one skill separates Johnson from most of his opponents, it would be his high-level striking. Johnson rarely gets outstruck during his fights due to his incredible striking speed, accuracy, and deep understanding of Muay Thai. He’s equally competent fighting out of orthodox or southpaw stances, and he’s constantly switching between the two, making it hard for opponents to predict his attacks.

DJ’s approach to striking can be best described as conservative. He’s not much of a risk-taker when it comes to the standup game, typically choosing to minimize the damage he takes while outpointing his opponents.

Johnson rarely chases knockouts during his fights, but he does have the power to put opponents away if the opportunity presents itself. Joseph Benavidez learned that lesson the hard way when he got sloppy during his second fight against DJ.

Johnson’s incredible footwork has a lot to do with his success inside the cage. Every step is calculated, which allows him to slip out of attacks and launch devastating counterattacks.

DJ combines his footwork with his keen sense of range to break down opponents from a distance. He loves pumping out his jab as a range finder, and he does the same with low kicks. Johnson starts opening up with combinations once his opponent’s attacks become predictable. He sometimes chooses to push the pace, and he’s equally as comfortable fighting in the pocket or against the cage.

2) Amazing Submissions

Johnson enjoys spending time on the mat, and it shows during his fights. You will rarely find him in a compromising position when a fight hits the canvas. If he’s on his back, he’s constantly working for submissions, looking to reverse, or working his way back to his feet.

If he’s on top, he’s peppering his opponents with shots while constantly looking for submissions. He’s racked up some pretty cool ones during his career, like the nasty guillotine he won his ONE Championship debut with or his last-second –literally – far side armbar submission of Kyoji Horiguchi.

BJ being extremely comfortable regardless of where he ends up on his back allows him to throw strikes without much concern. Johnson is virtually impossible to take down, and if he does end up on his back, he can get back up on his feet whenever he wants. Even Cejudo had a difficult time keeping Johnson on his back when he finally secured takedowns.

3) Great Takedown Defense

Demetrious Johnson Attempts Submission

Demetrious Johnson isn’t one of those MMA fighters who train in BJJ and convince themselves they are equipped to deal with any grapplers they run into inside a cage. DJ is a student of the game, and he realizes how much success wrestlers have had in the sport. Johnson wrestled at the high school level, but he never took it further than that.

He incorporates it into his training though, leading to an impressive 65 percent takedown defense rate, considering the fact he’s only fought the best of the best since 2011. DJ also incorporates takedowns into his game. He completes about 56 percent of his takedowns.

Johnson landed 14 takedowns during his title defense against Kyoji Horiguchi, and he’s scored more than ten takedowns in a fight three times in his professional MMA career. The fact most of his opponents aren’t expecting him to shoot makes his takedowns that much more effective.

Johnson uses his footwork to lure opponents in, then he shoots in for a takedown. DJ’s takedowns are good enough to put the likes of Henry Cejudo on their backs. His favorite is the double-leg takedown.

4) High Fight IQ

Like many of the other legends of the sport, DJ has a deep understanding of mixed martial arts, the rules of the sports, and the way fights are scored. He rarely makes a mistake when he’s inside the cage, yet he’s always there to make his opponents pay for any mistakes they make.

DJ’s deep understanding of the game often gives him the edge when he finds himself dealing with world-class competitors who are just as well-rounded as he is.

5) Unbreakable Endurance

Demetrious Johnson Cardio Workout

Johnson is a cardio machine who never gets tired during fights. You can often observe him not even taking deep breaths heading into the fifth round of championship fights.

Cardio is one of the essential parts of success in any sport, yet some fighters refuse to put in the work. DJ isn’t one of these fighters. He understands that cognitive and manual skills are greatly diminished when fatigue seeps in, so he trains appropriately.

All of Johnson’s skills discussed above would be irrelevant if he didn’t have the cardio to keep up with any challenger that comes his way.

Mixing it all up

Mixed martial arts is about mixing up different fighting styles, and Demetrious Johnson does that as well as anyone else. He’s comfortable exchanging blows with the best strikers in the MMA world, and he can grapple with the best grapplers in the flyweight division.

DJ’s intelligent approach and willingness to constantly learn new things led to one of the most impressive unbeaten streaks in the sport’s history. He’s one of the fighters you should certainly study if you plan to compete in MMA in the future.

Dominick Cruz claims he's a nightmare fight for Jose Aldo He's going to be a free agent

Dominick Cruz thinks he is a terrible matchup for Jose Aldo.

Cruz vs. Aldo has been a fight many fans have wanted to see for years, especially as both were UFC champions. However, it never came to fruition, but with the two now fighting at bantamweight it is more realistic it can come together.

It was rumored that Cruz was offered to face Aldo at UFC 301 in Brazil, but it didn’t come to fruition, which the former bantamweight champ claims was because Aldo wanted an easier fight in his return.

“Since you brought up Aldo, I’ll start with I saw his words were that they offered him to fight me but he wanted somebody in the top five, or, ‘He’s not in the top five,’” Dominick Cruz said on the “Anik & Florian Podcast” (via MMAJunkie). “Is Jonathan Martinez in the top five? OK, so there’s that. And then, why would you want to be in the top five unless you’re going to fight for the title? Is he planning on renegotiating his contract for another six fights and going for the title?

“Or do you want to make sure you secure a win to become a free agent off a win instead of a loss when you’ve got to face the likes of me, which is a nightmare? I’m not saying Jonathan Martinez isn’t a nightmare, but the way that I saw it is, he showed up on the first weigh-in and then he showed up the second weigh-in apologizing for showing up to the first weigh-in and that right there showed me that the man was learning who he was against Jose Aldo before he even got in there,” Dominick Cruz continued.

Aldo did fight out his deal at UFC 301 as he beat Martinez by decision. Currently, it’s unclear if he will re-sign.

Dominick Cruz doubts Jose Aldo will be back in the UFC

Although Aldo got a big win at UFC 301 and is in the top-10 at bantamweight, he is right back in the title picture at 135lbs.

However, Dominick Cruz doesn’t think Aldo will re-sign with the UFC and will rather go back to boxing where he was having success.

Jose Aldo UFC 301 1

“He’s not going to renegotiate,” Cruz said. “Why would he sign for another six fights in the UFC? He’s not going to do that. He’s going to go be a free agent.”

As for Cruz, he has not fought since August of 2022 when he got knocked out by Marlon Vera.

Time to wake up and get ready for Round 6.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently inked a new licensing agreement with McFarlane Toys to bring mixed martial arts (MMA) fans six-inch posable action figures, as well as a new line of digital collectibles.

Hopefully they’re a step up from this disaster.

The new UFC action figures are expected to launch in fall of this year, with availability both online and in stores.
