UFC London: Jon Jones says Silva ‘still has it’ despite loss to Bisping

Jon Jones says Anderson Silva still has the magic that made him such a legendary UFC champion.

While Anderson Silva lost against Michael Bisping at UFC Fight Night 84 last night, the Brazilian was still able to exhibit some of the greatness from his championship years.

“The Spider” traded back-and-forth with Bisping for 25 minutes but thought he had won the fight after crumpling the Brit at the end of the third round. Silva bobbed, weaved and countered Bisping with flashy strikes throughout the contest but those moments were few and far between. Bisping bit down on his mouthpiece and persevered to earn a unanimous decision in front of his native supporters at the O2 Arena in London, England.

Jon Jones, who has looked up to Anderson Silva since embarking on his own MMA career, believes the Brazilian “still has it” but feels Silva should have been more aggressive throughout the fight.

I wish Anderson would have just stayed aggressive the whole time, he would have won https://t.co/76v7QkoFk1

Absolutely I saw many glimpses of greatness during that fight. He definitely still has it https://t.co/gOzhjpLNr9

Silva has struggled immensely since losing the middleweight title to Chris Weidman at UFC 162. The 40-year-old suffered a career-threatening leg fracture in the rematch and was caught using steroids against Nick Diaz at UFC 183.

Prior to UFC London, Silva said he’ll “never leave” MMA and seemed to be optimistic about the fight. However, his controversial loss to Bisping could see the former champion reassess his future in the sport.

In recent months, the NBA and NHL have both begun filming their games for virtual reality devices. The latest sports organization to hop on the bandwagon is Bellator MMA. Bellator isn’t working on filming their fights for VR though, instead focusing on the fighters’ training and walk-ins.

Bellator MMA executive Jason Jordan told Bloomberg he’s underwhelmed by the current state of VR game footage from other organizations. Instead of filming the competition, Viacom and Bellator plan on using VR to take fans behind the scenes with fighters. “We’re taking people in new places they otherwise wouldn’t be able to experience,” said Jordan.

“It’s not going to replace what you see on television,” Spike executive John Slusser added, “it’s going to enhance that by showing a different angle.”

At Bellator’s next event, fans will be able to visit virtual reality booths equipped with Google’s Oculus Rift headsets. They’ll be able to pick which fighter to follow as they prepare for their upcoming fights.

Anderson Silva on Michael Bisping loss in London: It’s total corruption, just like in Brazil

Anderson Silva’s return to the Octagon didn’t go as planned last night (Sat. Feb. 27, 2016), as “The Spider” lost a unanimous decision to Michael Bisping in the main event of UFC Fight Night 84 in London, England.

Anderson Silva’s return to the Octagon didn’t go as planned last night (Sat. Feb. 27, 2016), as “The Spider” lost a unanimous decision to Michael Bisping in the main event of UFC Fight Night 84 in London, England.

Full video highlights here.

Of course, Silva stated during his post-fight speech that some home cooking could have given “The Count” the win, as he says total corruption could have played a big factor in the fight. Something “The Spider” says is also an issue in his home country of Brazil.

His words via Complex:

“Here’s the deal, you can’t win one way, they try to take it away the other way. That’s it. You saw how that went, right? So, there’s nothing left to say. I fought for you, and that’s it. Thank you for the support. My family, I’m coming back home, I’m fine. Mission accomplished, mission given, but sometimes it’s like in Brazil, total corruption.”

See the official scorecard here.

It’s one thing to throw a country under the bus, it’s an an entirely different thing to do it to your own. But, I guess you can’t knock his honest opinion, even if it won’t sit too well with his countrymen.

Still, Silva wasn’t the only one who thought he’d won the bout, as Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president Dana White also felt the former 185-pound champion should’ve gotten the nod. Of course, many believe Silva could have done more on his end to sway the decision in his favor.

Silva came close to walking  way with a spectacular knockout victory, as he flattened Bisping with a flying knee in the closing seconds of round two. Thinking he had delivered the coup de grace, Silva prematurely celebrated the win. But it was short lived, as referee Herb Dean never actually called an end to the bout.

It was a controversy-filled night indeed.
