Georges St Pierre, Jake Paul, Anderson Silva

Georges St Pierre has expressed his surprise by Jake Paul’s rise within the combat sports world, admitting at first, he believed it was only a “joke”.

Social Media menace, Jake Paul is preparing to lace up his gloves for his toughest test yet against former UFC middleweight Champion Anderson Silva this weekend.

Saturday’s event is set at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona as it is scheduled to kick off around 9 PM ET / 1 AM GMT.

During the ceremonial weigh-ins, Georges St Pierre was there to facilitate the pairs faceoff where the two had to be separated as things got a bit tense between Paul and Silva.

Ahead of the fight, St Pierre was asked by reporters about his views on Paul’s recent boxing success and what he makes of it all.

“This whole thing started off as a joke for most of the so-called experts, and I’m no different,” St Pierre stated.

“He beat Nate Robinson, but they didn’t see him as a real boxer. Then he beat Ben Askren, then steps up his game and beats Woodley, now he’s fighting Anderson Silva. That’s crazy.”

Nevertheless, after Jake Paul’s dedication to the sport of boxing Georges St Pierre has developed a new level of respect for the 25-year-old.

“He’s stepping up his game every single time. Love him, hate him, but one thing about Jake Paul is you have to respect him… For a lot of people, it’s very inspiring. No one gave him a chance at first. It started off as a joke and look at him now. It’s an incredible journey and it’s not over.”

Georges St Pierre gives his verdict on the fight

Although Georges St Pierre stayed mutual, rearing away from any official prediction.

The former 170lbs UFC Champion believes his former 47-year-old colleague still checks all the boxes to get the job done, however, believes ‘The Problem Child’s’ power is something to look out for.

Anderson Silva is faster, better mobility, more fluid, more experienced of course, but Jake Paul has something Anderson does not have: He has what my trainer calls ‘the touch of death,’” St-Pierre said.

“He can hit you with one shot, his right hand that comes outside of his opponent’s line of vision, and he’s been very successful so far with it. The way he throws it is so deceptive.” (Transcribed by MMAFighting.com)

Anderson Silva since leaving the UFC has continued to light up the world in the boxing world with his notorious in-ring antics, in addition to, some impressive wins over Julio Cesar Chavz Jr and Tito Ortiz

Despite his age, Georges St Pierre cannot help but enjoy seeing Anderson Silva still in and around the combat sports world no matter the result.

Whom do you think Georges St Pierre will want to see come out on top on Saturday, Paul or Silva?

Anderson Silva questions whether Jake Paul is truly prepared for their fight: “War has started”

Anderson Silva

Anderson Silva will return to combat action this weekend when he attempts to beat undefeated YouTube sensation turned-boxer, Jake Paul.

Silva will be the third former UFC competitor, and second former UFC champion to try and beat Paul in a boxing match with the ‘Problem Child’ already holding victories over Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren.

However, Anderson Silva is in many ways completely different from Paul’s previous opponents.  A former UFC middleweight champion the Brazilian reigned supreme for many years over the 185-pound division and is regarded by many as one the greatest combat sports athletes of all time.

Given his extraordinary list of accolades, it comes as no surprise that Silva believes Paul has gotten himself in over his head ahead of their matchup. Speaking to ‘TheMacLife’ Silva kept his responses short and sweet when describing his mental switch as his matchup comes ever closer.

‘Now the war has started, that’s it. No more jokes no more hugs.’

Silva would also go on to suggest that Jake Paul does not truly understand just what type of situation he has gotten himself into with trying to defeat one of the all-time greats.

‘I don’t think so. I don’t think he understands what will happen.’

Anderson Silva Appears Mentally Focused Ahead of Jake Paul Matchup

Having faced the best of the best whilst competing within the UFC it should come as no surprise that Anderson Silva appeared mentally unfazed by the challenge ahead of him. Silva had an extremely successful reign in the UFC and that success has followed him since his retirement from the sport and re-entry into the world of boxing.

Silva returned to the sport with a split-decision victory over former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr back in 2021. He then followed that victory up by putting on a striking masterclass against Tito Ortiz which saw him knock out the former UFC light heavyweight champion in the very first round.

If Silva does emerge victorious this weekend, followers of the Brazilian should be extremely excited as he has already agreed to face Paul again but this time competing in a kickboxing matchup. An environment in which Silva will be able to unleash his full arsenal.

Jake Paul

Jake Paul will return to action this weekend when he faces off against former UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, in a boxing match at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona.

This will be the third occasion in which Jake Paul will take on a former UFC competitor, having already faced Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren. Paul has established relationships with a number of UFC fighters both active and retired since he became more involved in the welfare and aftercare of these athletes.

Although this is a positive for those competitors he is trying to support, it has resulted in Jake Paul being banned from attending any live UFC events. Whilst speaking to current middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya, Paul revealed the news that he would not be able to come and show his support in person for the champion’s next title defense at UFC 281 vs. Alex Pereira

During their discussion, Paul revealed that offensive chants directed towards him resulted in him being escorted out of the venue from the most recent event he attended. He would also go on to claim that the son of UFC president Dana White was directing racial slurs toward him as he was leaving.

Jake Paul vs Anderson Silva

In what will be his toughest test to date, Jake Paul is tasked with defeating former UFC champion, Anderson Silva. The build-up to their fight has been relatively respectful, with Paul previously claiming Silva to be one of his idols within combat sports.

So much so that the pair have even agreed to partake in a friendly wager dependent on the results of their matchup. Paul has agreed to face Silva in a kickboxing matchup should he face defeat this weekend. The YouTube sensation originally offered to take on the Brazilian in an MMA bout, but it was quickly switched to kickboxing. If Silva does win, he would be expected to have an easier task in a kickboxing matchup against Paul given his wealth of experience.

On the other side of this wager, Anderson Silva has agreed to join forces with Paul to help create a united fighters association in order to provide better care for these athletes.

One of his former champions joining forces with someone who has tried to cause him many issues in order to better help his athletes, just how do you think Dana White will feel about this?

Anderson Silva is an all-time great in MMA. Brazil’s ‘The Spider’ was the long-reigning middleweight champion in the UFC. He has since retired from the cage and entered the boxing ring. With wins over Julio César Chávez Jr. and Tito Ortiz, Silva will be entering his bout against Paul 2-0 in 2021.

Jake Paul is a perfect 5-0 in professional boxing with notable wins over Tyron Woodley and Ben Askren. ‘The Problem Child’ beat both of these men by way of knockout.

Ben Askren talks about Anderson Silva vs Jake Paul

In an interview with talkSPORT, the former ONE and Bellator champion explained:

“I don’t really care that much. I don’t think I’m even going to buy the pay-per-view. I think it’s probably unlikely. I have no idea what to expect in this one, I guess we’ll see on Saturday.”

The collegiate wrestling great continued:

“I was really disappointed when Tyron lost. As far as it looks on me, it actually looks alright because Jake Paul is significantly better than we thought he would be. Part of me would like to see him [Jake Paul] get beat up. But if he does well it’s like, ‘Okay, I was clearly out of my league when I said yes.’ So, the expectation of me goes lower, which is fine.”

On the 29th of October, Jake Paul will face the biggest test of his career as he faces a highly experienced knockout striker in ‘The Spider‘ Anderson Silva.
