UFC legend Anderson Silva claims he is not fighting Terry Crews on June 15, teases his real opponent

Anderson Silva is NOT fighting Terry Crews.

On Saturday, the former NFL player turned Hollywood actor caught the attention of MMA fans when he claimed that on June 15, he would be heading to Brazil for a fight with UFC Hall of Famer Anderson Silva.

Terry Crews and Anderson Silva

Silva and Crews developed a friendship after co-hosting a slew of regional variants of Netflix’s Ultimate Beastmaster series. Still, the announcement was a head-scratcher as Crew, who is known for his comedic chops and buffed-out build, has never once competed in combat sports. At least not professionally.

As media outlets were still trying to figure out what the hell was going on, Silva took to social media and debunked the news that he was fighting Crews despite he himself suggesting the fight was on hours earlier.

“Everyone was expecting the fight to be me and Terry Crews, but it won’t be with Terry,” Silva said in a translated post on his Instagram Stories. “Terry is a great friend that I have. A guy that I love very much and have great affection for. Tonight at Fantastico, you will be able to find out who my opponent is in my last fight here in Brazil.”

Anderson Silva doesn’t even know who he’s fighting

So if it’s not Terry Crews, who is ‘The Spider’ fighting? Well, even he doesn’t know.

“I’m also excited to find out who it is,” Silva added. “I don’t know who it is yet, but today I’ll find out along with you.”

Was The Expendables actor ever in the running to fight Silva? Was it all a publicity stunt? Why does Silva not know who he’s fighting in less than a month? We’re so confused.

Whoever Anderson Silva fights, the contest is expected to be under boxing rules.

After walking away from the UFC in 2019, ‘The Spider’ has competed in four boxing matches, going 2-2 in the process. Along the way, he squared off with YouTube star Jake Paul, suffering a unanimous decision loss. His two wins came against legendary pugilist Julio César Chávez Jr. and former UFC champion Tito Ortiz.

UFC Hall of Famer and former middleweight world champion Anderson Silva will return to action on June 15 for a fight with… Terry Crews?!

Yes, you read that correctly. In a video clip that literally nobody saw coming, Crews issued a challenge to the MMA legend, suggesting that the two stars from two very different mediums will collide in a bout emanating from Silva’s native Brazil.

“Anderson Silva, I’ve been training, I’m ready. I will see you at fight night, on June 15th, in Brazil. Let’s Go. Anderson Silva, me and you. Let’s make it happen. “

Anderson Silva has since responded to the post on Crews’ Instagram, writing: “See you June 15.”

Few details have been provided regarding Silva’s return to action next month, but rumors suggest that the bout will be a boxing match — a safe bet considering ‘The Spider’ has competed inside the squared circle four times since walking away from the UFC in 2020.

The contest is also expected to be the final fight of Silva’s illustrious combat sports career.

For those unfamiliar, Terry Crews is a well-known actor who has played prominent roles on both the big and small screen. The buffed-out former football player has appeared on popular television series including Everybody Hates Chris and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Despite his hulking appearance, Crews has never actually competed in any type of combat sport. He is, however, a natural athlete, being drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the 11th round of the 1991 NFL draft. He was also signed by the Packers, Chargers, and the Commanders (former the Redskins) before retiring from the sport in 1997.

Crews and Silva are no strangers to one another, previously hosting regional variants of the Netflix reality series Ultimate Beastmaster.

As for why Crew would be the man to face Anderson Silva in the MMA icon’s final fight, who the hell knows? But we’ll most certainly watch it.

Chael Sonnen says his UFC Hall of Fame induction was a little bit weird for him.

Sonnen’s first fight against Anderson Silva was inducted into the Hall of Fame as it entered the fight wing. The middleweight title fight was one of the best fights as Sonnen was dominating Silva and was well on his way to winning but caught in a submission in the fifth round.

For that fight to be going into the Hall of Fame makes it a little weird for Sonnen, as he says that was one of the worst moments of his career.

“I gotta tell you, I’ve never felt good about a loss,” Chael Sonnen said of his Hall of Fame induction on Good Guy / Bad Guy. (via MMAMania). Nothing’s changed in my life. Like, I didn’t wake up and all of a sudden they reversed the decision, or I wake up, and I got a rematch and I beat him. I got some praise, and I must tell you it feels very good to get a pat on the back. I mean, one of the worst moments. One that’s kept me up at night is now the one that keeps me up from excitement. I lost, and that’s a little bit weird, but here I am.”

Although it was a little weird, Chael Sonnen says he didn’t even realize he was going into the Hall of Fame which made the moment more special.

“I’ve got to tell you, that thing was so fun,” Sonnen said. “I never really envisioned this and Glenn Jacobs helped us set up. I had no idea until that came out of Jon Anik’s mouth. Even when he said it he didn’t say my name, he said ‘The Bad Guy,’ and I sat there, and I thought, ‘Well, they used to call me the bad guy.’ I had one of those moments. It was just fun, man. It was just exciting… It was very cool, and I was very grateful.”

Who are the 2024 UFC Hall of Fame inductees?

After the Chael Sonnen vs. Anderson Silva fight was inducted into the Hall of Fame, the class of 2024 appears to be set.

The 2024 UFC Hall of Fame class will feature Frankie Edgar, Wanderlei Silva, Joanna Jedrzejczyk, and Sonnen vs. Silva 1.

The Hall of Fame class features some very well-deserving fighters who helped raise the profile of the UFC.

Chris Weidman calls for trilogy fight with Anderson Silva: 'Can he get some revenge on me?'

Chris Weidman likes the idea of completing his trilogy Anderson Silva.

On Saturday (March 30), the former middleweight world champion will return to the Octagon for just the second time since he suffered a horrifying leg break during his UFC 261 scrap with Uriah Hall. ‘All American’ came up short in his first fight back against Brad Tavares, but a big win over Bruno Silva at UFC Atlantic City could open up some opportunities for him.

However, with only two fights left on his contract, Weidman can’t help, but look at all the money being made by ex-MMA fighters inside the squared circle. Speaking with Daniel Cormier on the UFC Hall of Famer’s YouTube channel, Weidman suggested that a move from the cage to the ring may be the perfect opportunity to cash in and close out his trilogy with Anderson Silva.

“Listen, I love the UFC, I think I have two fights left on my deal, we’ll see. A big win over Bruno Silva this weekend, because of everything I’ve accomplished, could allot me some big opportunities inside the UFC,” Weidman said. “I love the UFC but obviously there’s boxing matches out there, where [I can] make a lot of money and I wouldn’t mind ending my career with that.

“I love boxing, actually, and who wouldn’t want to see Anderson Silva versus Chris Weidman boxing match? Can he get some revenge on me? So there’s some cool fights out there” (h/t MMA Mania).

Weidman and Silva met in back-to-back bouts in 2013, the first coming at UFC 162 when Weidman scored a second-round knockout against Silva, ending the Brazilian’s 17-fight win streak and taking the 185-pound crown in the process.

They would run it back five months later at UFC 168. There, Silva suffered his own devastating leg break after attempting to deliver a kick in round two. ‘The Spider’ returned a little more than a year later, but never fought his way back to a third meeting with Weidman.

Chris Weidman All-In on a boxing match with Jake Paul

Of course, when you’re talking bout MMA fighters stepping into the world of boxing, you can’t help but bring up Jake Paul. ‘The Problem Child‘ has practically built his entire combat sports career around fighting former UFC stars. Asked about a potential clash with the YouTuber turned boxer, Weidman would happily jump at the chance, though he’s unconvinced that Paul would actually accept the fight.

“I don’t know if he would,” Weidman said of Paul. “Obviously, that would be a big money fight for me. Everyone is dying for that fight. I would love that.”

On July 20, Jake Paul is scheduled to step inside the ring with former unified heavyweight world champion and “baddest man on the planet” Mike Tyson. The bout will air live on Netflix at no additional charge for its 260+ million subscribers around the world.

Anderson Silva biopic mini series detailing his UFC rise set to be released in November

A new brand mini-series on Anderson Silva is set to be released on November 16 which wil be called ‘Anderson Spider Silva’.

Silva brought something to mixed martial arts that had never been seen before – going on 16 fight win streak when first entering the UFC. The flashy striker enjoyed a lengthy reign as middleweight champion, scoring incredible knockouts and sensational comeback submissions while doing so. During this time, Silva would earn victories over the likes of Chael Sonnen, Vitor Belfort and Dan Henderson.

After dropping his title to Chris Weidman, then horrifically breaking his leg in the rematch, Silva began racking up the loses, but only lost to the very best and fought the best well into his 40’s.

Now you can learn more about Silva’s time growing up all the way up to him capturing the 185lb title. The five part mini-series also includes some time spent as champion, including his infamous and heated rivalry with Sonnen.

Anderson Silva legacy

Silva would try his hand at the boxing game, successfully defeating former boxing world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, then knocking out Tito Ortiz within one round. ‘The Spider’ would then face influencer boxer Jake Paul, dropping a decision loss at the age of 47.

Silva will be remembered as one of the greatest fighters to ever grace the cage and is responsible for inspiring many fighters who compete today.

Following his last fight in the UFC, the promotion’s CEO Dana White had this to say about the Brazilian’s legendary career –

“He could do things to people that other people couldn’t. He was almost impossible to touch. He would be just on the end of your punch – the leather might touch him just a little bit, – and he’d come back with a combination that would either knock you out, or almost knock you out.” (H/T MMA Junkie)
