However, in the immediate aftermath of the co-main event slot under the David Feldman-led BKFC banner, Sanchez has accused Trout of cheating and attempting to gain an unfair advantage during their fight, with video footage claiming to show Trout greasing in his corner ahead of the bout, in order to make clinching and in-fight more difficult.

I respect what he has done, but I don’t respect how he’s (Diego Sanchez) he’s taking this,” Austin Trout told TMZ Sports. “This is definitely, you know, this is not respectable actions, my man, Take that loss as a man. And then you know, he blocked me right away, so some people are sending me what he’s saying and he’s basically saying that I ruined his game plan and this clinching and punching with the Vaseline.”

In a now-deleted post, Sanchez called for justice to be granted following the clash, labelling Trout’s actions as “blatant cheating”.

I pray in Jesus’ name that I will get justice for this blatant cheating caught on camera,” Diego Sanchez posted.

In the midst of a five-fight undefeated run in professional boxing, Austin Trout holds victories over a slew of former world champions – including a 2012 decision win over Miguel Cotto. And challenged current WBC middleweight kingpin, Canelo Alvarez for gold back in 2013.

Diego Sanchez, Austin Trout, BKFC

UFC Hall of Famer Diego Sanchez believes he was cheated in his fight against Austin Trout this past Friday at BKFC Knucklemania 3.

The 41-year-old alleges that Vaseline wasn’t applied on him and that Trout had too much. He claims that the amount of Vaseline on Trout prevented him from utilizing his skills to the fullest. Sanchez threatened to take BKFC to court over the cheating allegations and to overturn the loss.

First of all I didn’t get any Vaseline put on me!” Sanchez posted on Instagram. “Secondly, I did feel that Vaseline all on his shoulder and his neck during the fight it was put on so heavy I could not utilize the clinch this is cheating everybody so with that being said, I am the victorious champion and I count this as a win. Hopefully we can get the decision overturned. I will be talking with my lawyer soon. @davidfeldmanbkfc @swfightnews @bareknuckle @mmajunkie god always has my back what a relief walking down the mountain to this news.”

Diego Sanchez Wants A Rematch Against Austin Trout in MMA

In another Instagram post, Sanchez went into further detail about his thoughts on the allegations and called for a rematch in MMA against Trout.

And maybe this was just pure coincidence that I said publicly my game plan was to get inside grab his neck mma style and work from that position! I’m not baring false witness on any one nodoubttrout or @bareknucklefc or G the guy doing it. But facts are it happened and when I decided to take this fight I knew Austin was top notch boxer with a longer reach the main reason I said yes to the fight was my chances in the clinch due to the fact he was used to boxing gloves and the clinch would be new to him giving me my advantage and him his! A fair fight not in mma not in boxing but in a middle place! @davidfeldmanbkfc was nothing but love and respect and we broke all standing Bkfc records attendance and on the app. So maybe it was coincidence but like I said there was no rubbing vaseline on my neck and trust me my jaw is swore today I still have not ate solid food yet I could have used some vaseline on my beard. I have spoke I hope the truth comes out because that was not FairPlay! I’m at the end of my career not done but I feel the end on the horizon. I hope my fans support me in getting justice how bout we do a rematch in mma so I can get my justice. In Jesus name I pray for justice and truth so that whomever messed up should be held accountable for I took a lot of hits with no gloves. If the tables were turned and I bloodied up Austin and a tape came out with me having my neck and full beard being heavily lubed with vaseline! And I promise you I felt that vaseline when my fingers slipped unnaturally off his neck when I did get there!” (h/t MMA Junkie)

Despite the allegations, Sanchez had an unsuccessful BKFC debut. He signed with the bare-knuckle boxing promotion in November 2022 after a long UFC run. His first official UFC fight was in April 2005 and his last was in September 2020. He lost his two prior combat sports fights to Kevin Lee in Eagle FC and Jake Matthews in the UFC.

Former professional boxing world champion, Austin Trout has admitted that while he believes former UFC lightweight championship challenger and welterweight contender, Diego Sanchez is a “weirdo”, he still has a dangerous fight on his hand this weekend at BKFC Knucklemania 3 in New Mexico.

Trout, who has faced current middleweight champion, Canelo Alvarez during his professional career and maintained his undefeated record with a victory over former world champion, Miguel Cotto, is scheduled to make his debut in bare knuckle boxing alongside UFC veteran, Sanchez, as the duo close the bill before a championship double-header at BKFC Knucklemania 3 this weekend in New Mexico.

Receiving sanctioning to compete following the passing of medical screening, Sanchez, who most recenty competed in combat sports under the banner of Eagle FC against recently signed UFC interim lightweight championship challenger, Kevin Lee, suffered a unanimous decision loss at the super lightweight limit of 165lbs last year.

Austin Trout expects tough showdown against UFC alum, Diego Sanchez

Slated to fight the former WBA super welterweight champion this weekend in New Mexico, Sanchez has been described as somewhat of a “weirdo” by Trout, however, the surging boxing challenger admits he may have a stern challenge on his hands.

God bless him (Diego Sanchez), he’s a bit of a weirdo,” Austin Trout told The Underground reporter, John Morgan. “I kinda get his weird a little bit – he’s a warrior. I don’t think it’s going to be as easy as people think it’s going to be – I’ve been training for such. I’m praying it’s as easy as possible. But, you know, with the size difference, he’s got a reach advantage, I think he’s going to try and make it as ugly as possible. And it’s gonna come down to if I can hurt him or not.”

“And if I can’t hurt him, it’s going to be a tough time for me,” Austin Trout continued. “But, if I can hurt him and sting him, it’s gonna be a rough time for him. So, I’m looking forward to that challenge – I’m pretty confident that I can hurt him without hurting myself.”

In the midst of a run of five consecutive victories in professional boxing, Trout most recently defeated Jose Sanchez Charles in Hidalgo, Texas back in December of last year.
