Pedro Carvalho

Featuring on adopted home soil once more this Friday, Straight Blast Gym staple, Pedro Carvalho has intentions to display a “clean” performance against opponent, Mads Burnell – as the featherweight duo share the 3Arena cage in a pivotal top-5 matchup at Bellator 285 in the capital.

Carvalho, the current #5 ranked featherweight contender under the Scott Coker-led banner, featured at the same venue back in November of last year against experienced German stalwart, Daniel Weichel – displaying tremendous heart and grit to secure a close, split decision win.

The Portuguese-born striker would then go on to meet Piotr Niedzielski at Bellator 280 back in May of this year, suffering another close decision loss to the Pole.

As for Burnell, the UFC alum and former Cage Warriors title challenger met with incoming title challenger, Hungarian contender, Adam Borics back in March of this year. The Danish technician suffered his first defeat since his move to Bellator as a result.

Speaking with LowKick MMA reporter, Ross Markey during a recent interview ahead of his matchup with Burnell, Carvalho admitted that while his style often warrants Fight of the Night plaudits, he hopes to turn in a “clean”, Performance of the NIght donned display against Burnell.

“We match up pretty well in terms of styles,” Pedro Carvalho said. “We are both well-rounded – striking, grappling-wise. We both have amazing cardio, we both like to go forward, so, yeah, I see like – of course, it’s going to be a great fight. I’ve been preparing myself, I’ve been making some changes and adjustments, to not be Fight of the Night, but Performance of the Night for myself.”

“I go in there with the intention to be clean,” Pedro Carvalho explained. “If it ends up being a scrap, well, you know, I was born to be a scrapper. That’s not an issue for me. But I go in there with the intentions to be clean, and as soon as possible out there.”

With the duo both attempting to work their way back to a title challenge in the future off the back of Friday’s matchup in Dublin, Carvalho, who previously fought champion, Patricio Pitbull, welcomed the idea of a number one contenders tilt against either Aaron Pico, or Jeremy Kennedy.

“… I think the most logical outcome of them all is, me beating Mads (Burnell), and fighting the winner of (Aaron) Pico, and Jeremy Kennedy for the number one contenders spot,” Pedro Carvalho explained. “Other than that, who is left to fight for the belt? (A.J.) McKee is at lightweight – (Adam) Borics is now fighting for the belt. I think pretty much, it’s down to who wins this match, and the winner versus winner gets the spot I think.”

Pedro Carvalho holds five wins under the Bellator banner

Landing five victories since his move to Bellator back in 2018, Carvalho, a staple teammate of event headliner, Peter Queally, debuted with a string of wins over Daniel Crawford, Luca Vitali, Derek Campos, and Sam Silica, before last November’s successful homecoming win over Weichel.

Nate Diaz

Bellator MMA leader, Scott Coker has confirmed the promotion’s interest in signing Nate Diaz in the future to a deal to the organization, after the latter recently completed his contractual obligations with his UFC 279 headliner earlier this month.

The promotion, which is set to touch down in Dublin this week for Bellator 285, according to president, Coker, has expressed an interest in signing Diaz, who is set to become a free agent following the completion of his contract with the UFC earlier this month.

Scott Coker expresses interest in signing Nate Diaz to Bellator contract

“Well, we’re definitely talking to him (Nate Diaz),” Scott Coker told BBC Sport ahead of Bellator 285. “We’ve reached out and I know he’s probably talking to everybody. He’s, I think, in a pretty good situation. I know he wants to fight Jake Paul. Jake Paul’s fighting, you know, against Anderson Silva on Showtime pay-per-view, which is our home network, so there’s some synergies here.”

“We’re just hoping that we could have some type of deal to at least have his MMA fights with Bellator,” Scott Coker continued. “We are in dialogue.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

Headlining UFC 279 earlier this month against former interim lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson, Nate Diaz weathered an early storm of offense from the Oxnard native en route to an eventual fourth round guillotine win.

The victory came as Diaz’s first since August 2019, where he snapped a three-year hiatus from the sport with an impressive unanimous decision win over former undisputed WEC and UFC lightweight champion, Anthony Pettis.

Ahead of his UFC 279 main event, Diaz, who was originally slated to compete against the undefeated, Khamzat Chimaev, maintained how he wanted to try his hand at other combat sports including professional boxing, amid links to a fight with the aforenoted, Jake Paul – as well as returning to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition.

Diaz also recently launched his own fight promotion, Real Fight Inc. ahead of his final contracted Octagon walk.

Jose Aldo backs himself over Anderson Silva as the greatest Brazilian in history & reveals his GOAT

Jose Aldo, Anderson SilvaJose Aldo put himself over the likes of Anderson Silva and Amanda Nunes as the greatest Brazilian mixed martial artist in history. Jose Aldo, Anderson Silva

Jose Aldo put himself over the likes of Anderson Silva and Amanda Nunes as the greatest Brazilian mixed martial artist in history.

The former UFC featherweight champion enjoyed one of the most successful careers ever, spanning a period of dominance between 2006 and 2015. He went undefeated for nearly a decade until the former two-division champion Conor McGregor dethroned him by setting the record for the fastest title fight finish in just 13 seconds.

Jose Aldo believes he’s the best Brazilian MMA fighter ever

In an appearance on the show Cara a Tapa, Aldo made his case for being the greatest fighter to come from Brazil.

“That´s easy, myself,” he said (ht Sherdog). “I won the title twice, dropped my weight, and I could very well get an opportunity to fight for the title again. I respect everyone’s history, but I’m the best. I took on a new challenge, I lowered my [weight class], I lined up everyone, I did it for the title, I lost, I recovered again and I was doing well until I stumbled again. I’m the [best Brazilian] in history.”

Fedor Emelianenko is Aldo’s GOAT

Fedor Emelianenko is widely regarded as one of the greatest combat sports athletes ever, and Aldo shares the same sentiment. The former Pride Fighting Championship king went on a nine-year win streak and continues to compete to this day as a top-ranked Bellator heavyweight contender.

Jose Aldo acknowledged the illustrious resumes of former UFC champions Demetrious Johnson and Georges St-Pierre, he placed Emelianenko above both.

“Of achievements like that, [there is] Demetrious Johnson, who is a [lighter] weight that nobody talks about because he is tiny. But Georges was also a big name,” Aldo said. “But for me,  [it’s] Fedor. For me, he’s one of the icons. When the guy stayed 10 years [undefeate]), I said: ‘Damn, I want to beat this guy’s record.’”

Do you agree that Jose Aldo is the greatest Brazilian?
