Former duel-weight UFC champion, Conor McGregor has claimed that he plans to model the remainder of his mixed martial arts career on the veteran former middleweight title challenger and now-Bellator light heavyweight contender, Yoel Romero.

McGregor, a former undisputed lightweight and featherweight champion under the UFC banner, has been sidelined from the Octagon since July of last year, headlining UFC 264 against Dustin Poirier in an eventual first round doctor’s stoppage TKO loss after he fractured his left tibia.

Conor McGregor is expected to return to the UFC at the beginning of next year

Spending the time since recovering, Conor McGregor, who recently turned 34 years of age, has been linked with a slew of potential matchups in his return to active competition, including fights against the likes of Charles Oliveira, Justin Gaethje, Michael Chandler, Tony Ferguson, Rafael dos Anjos, and Jorge Masvidal.

Expected to return to the UFC in the early goings of next year, the Crumlin native has revealed that he plans to base the remainder of his career on the veteran Pinar del Rio native, Romero – with the 45-year-old recently turning in a dominant, buzzer-beating KO win over Alex Polizzi at Bellator Paris in May.

“The craftiness of Yoel (Romero) has always been incredible to watch!” Conor McGregor tweeted. “I am modeling (sic) the second half of my career off of this mad Cubano. @YoelRomeroMMA. Excited for the fights this evening.”

Replying to the Dubliner, Romero reminded the former duel-weight champion that he would be stopping by in the Irish capital next month for his third Bellator walk.

“Thank you so much @TheNotoriousMMA I will be in Dublin next month #seeyousoonboi,” Yoel Romero tweeted.

Snapping a run of four consecutive losses with his May win, Romero stopped Polizzi – who suffered a fractured jaw in the Paris showdown with a late third round knockdown.

The American Top Team staple has been heralded for his explosiveness and unmatched athleticism at his age, having landed a series of victories over former major champions including Lyoto Machida, Ronaldo Souza, Chris Weidman, and the returning, Luke Rockhold – who co-headlines UFC 278 later this evening.

Romero is slated to feature in the co-main event of Bellator Dublin in the capital next month in a rescheduled light heavyweight matchup with Suriname striker, Melvin Manhoef.

Bellator MMA welterweight contender, Dillon Danis has called out yet another opponent for his impending return to active competition, this time switching his attention to the outspoken former kickboxing champion, Andrew Tate – claiming the controversial content creator would “turn into a feminist” after a fight with him.

Danis, a high-profile feature under the Bellator MMA banner, has been sidelined since improving to 2-0 professionally back in June 2019, defeating Max Humphrey with a late opening round armbar win at a 175lbs catchweight matchup at Bellator 222 in New York.

Danis had previously made his professional mixed martial arts debut back in April of 2018 at Bellator 198, defeating Kyle Walker with a quickfire opening round toe hold submission.

In the time since, Dillon Danis has been recovering from reconstructive knee injury following a slew of ligament injuries. And footage emerged late last year of Danis being corralled outside a New Jersey bar by a bouncer, where Danis was placed in a rear-naked choke

As for Tate, the outspoken 35-year-old English-born striker, has risen to prominence across social media and YouTube in recent months, detailing his controversial and often-criticized views, resulting in the former kickboxer receiving mass attention and engagement online.

Boasting a 1-0 professional mixed martial arts record, Tate managed to defeat Shane Kavanagh with a win at Ultimate Warrior Challenge Uk back in 2010, while the Englishman also holds an amateur win against The Ultimate Fighter and UFC alum, compatriot, Luke Barnatt.

Issuing a call out to Tate on his official Twitter account, Danis claimed he would turn the controversial Tate into a “feminist” after they shared the cage.

“When I come back to MMA I want Andrew Tate he’s 1-0 and I’m 2-0,” Dillon Danis tweeted. “Someone’s 0 has to go! I’d beat him so bad he’d turn inot a feminist.”

In recent weeks, Tate has been linked with a potential return to combat sports in the form of a professional boxing match against the undefeated, Jake Paul – following the latter’s failed Madison Square Garden clash with Hasim Rahman Jr.

Former UFC scrapper Mike Perry has promised fans violence as he heads into his second Bare Knuckle Boxing bout against Michael Page on Aug.20.

The Bellator welterweight contender clashes with Perry in next weekend’s main event at Wembley Arena, which marks the organization’s first trip to the UK. The fight announcement came as a shock to many considering Page’s last contest was for Bellator gold, and the thirty-five-year-old has never fought in bare-knuckle. Perry, on the other hand, left victorious on his BKFC debut in February vs. Julian Lane.

In the lead-up to fight night, Perry has been sending Page warnings and is adamant he doesn’t know what he’s let himself in for stepping between the ropes. Despite the threats, Perry has shown his respect for the talented striker but questions his toughness when it comes to the viciousness of BKB.

Mike Perry Talks MVP BKFC Fight

“I want to see what happens when I do connect with you and I do get some cuts on your face. I want to see what happens then,” Mike Perry said when faced off with Mike Perry in the BKFC press conference

Although never competing in the sport, Page shrugged it off and dismissed Perry’s doubt, stating: “It won’t happen”.

There is no question about Perry’s shear heart and durability when inside the ring or Octagon. Fans enjoy watching the gangster-like style he brings into battle with him. During his twenty-two professional fights, Perry was only stopped once by strikes, which gave him a bucket full of confidence leading into Aug.20.

“You slippery little snake boy. I’m coming after you. I’m coming for you. You should be worried, MVP. I’m a psychopath,” Perry screamed into the camera.

As it stands, Page has signed to BKFC on a one-fight deal and has aspirations of returning to Bellator after the fight, having previously fallen short in his last outing to Logan Storley at Bellator 281 for interim gold. Page addressed the mixed reactions he got from the fighting community after diving head first into BKB.

“I get a lot of different types of reactions when I’m telling people,” Page said. “Even now, it’s been announced for a little while and people are still like ‘are you actually doing this?’. Similar to MMA when it first came through, people just saw it as barbaric. They didn’t see the skill and level of commitment that athletes had, it’s the same with bare-knuckle now. People have a negative appeal about initially.”

Kayla Harrison, Cris Cyborg

Kayla Harrison and Cris Cyborg are two of the most popular fighters in women’s MMA. The two stars have embarked on a twitter battle sparking rumors of a potential super-fight.

Cyborg recently announced that she will be making her long-awaited professional boxing debut on Sept. 25 against Simone Silva. After hearing the news, Harrison reacted on Twitter which sparked a back-and-forth between the two.

During an appearance on The MMA Hour, Harrison called for a winner-take-all fight. She also agreed to full drug testing ahead of their potential bout.

“We can do winner takes all or we can do, when she loses, she gets to keep her purse. If she needs help getting the deal signed, I will call Peter Murray myself and Donn Davis and ask them, whatever price she wants, I will speak to them on her behalf.”

“I will go through a full USADA drug testing. I will get drug tested everyday from now until the fight if she’s worried about that and she doesn’t have to be drug tested at all. The only thing I ask is that they allow elbows.”

Harrison also reacted to Cyborg’s boxing debut and opponent. When asked about her tweets, the 32-year-old referred to the criticism she receives for fighting opponents with losing records.

“Oh you know, the “cans”, I fight the “cans”…(Cyborg’s) fighting someone who’s 17-21 in boxing.”

The two-time Olympic judo gold medalist is undefeated in MMA. After testing free agency, she resigned with the Professional Fighters League (PFL) in March. Her new two-year contract made her the highest paid fighter on the roster and across women’s MMA. She last fought in July, where she picked up a TKO win over Kaitlin Young to secure her second-straight PFL championship.

Kayla Harrison has called for better competition

An interpromotional super-fight with Bellator’s Cris Cyborg would increase Harrison’s status in the sport.

Cyborg is regarded as a pioneer in women’s MMA. Bellator’s Featherweight Women’s Champion has spent over 15 years in the sport and is 26-2 in her career. The 37-year-old has notably fought for Bellator, UFC, Invicta and Strikeforce, where she captured gold in each promotion. She recently secured a unanimous decision win over Arlene Blencowe in April at Bellator 279.

Harrison believes she’s the best women’s fighter in the world and has called her shot against Cyborg, one of the biggest names in the sport. They each have respective bouts lined up but in the meantime, the two continue to increase anticipation for a Bellator and PFL super-fight down the line.
