Last week, Deontay Wilder would lose to Tyson Fury for the second time. With Fury winning two of their three bouts (many arguing all three), Wilder came out as the undisputed loser of the trilogy. But as a former boxing world champion, he no doubt has some notable wins on his résumé, including an ESPN mascot. Here’s a look back at a story published three years ago on this day, in its unaltered form.

On This Day Three Years Ago…

[ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED OCTOBER 16, 2018, 2:03 PM]

Deontay Wilder is set to defend his WBC heavyweight title against Tyson Fury.  The heavyweight greats will collide on December 1st in Los Angeles. Wilder was recently a guest on Nacion ESPN to promote the upcoming fight. During the appearance, the hosts had Wilder hit a dummy to show off his power.

They then took things a step further. The heavyweight champion was asked to hit their mascot. One of the hosts told Wilder to hit him in either the head or stomach. Wilder then uncorked a huge right-hand to the mascot’s head. He fell down and the segment ended soon afterward.

Soon after this aired, there were rumors swirling around that the person dressed as the mascot was injured. Wilder took to Instagram to apologize and even invited the man to his fight in December. Here’s what he had to say:

“Yea, Anything headlining I didn’t know a “Human Being” was in there is just straight “Click Baiting”
like come on now, I guess the Mascot rolled out there. show so respect! I sincerely apologize to the brave man that was injured (if this is true) I have the up most high respect for him, his participation, willingness and courage. If this is true @nacionespn I personally would like to invite him to my Dec.1 fight. Word Is Bond -CHAMP”

Floyd Mayweather Favored Huge Over Khabib In Possible Boxing Bout

The early betting odds for a purposed boxing bout between Floyd Mayweather and Khabib have been released.

Floyd Mayweather favored big over UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov if they would compete in a boxing bout. You have to give the boxing legend a lot of credit for keeping his name in the news as he is notoriously great at that.

Staying In Headlines

Earlier this year, he talked about a potential jump to MMA then he brought up possibly fighting Manny Pacquiao for the second time, and now he’s got people talking about him fighting Khabib.

How We Got Here

Great marketing sir. Mayweather was last seen when he beat former UFC lightweight and featherweight champ Conor McGregor once he defeated him by TKO last year.

Now, after having some comments about the brawl between McGregor and Khabib at the UFC 229 pay-per-view event, this has led to talk about a purposed boxing bout. Nurmagomedov has called out Mayweather for a fight. Thus, betting odds have been released by online sportsbook Bovada which recently listed a line for the fight.

Floyd Mayweather Favored Huge

If the boxing match ever goes down, Mayweather has opened as a 20-1 favorite at -2000 against the UFC lightweight champion in a boxing bout. On the flip side, Nurmagomedov is +900, making him a 9-1 underdog. If you recall, Mayweather opened as a -3000 favorite against McGregor and closed as just a -750 favorite.

Reality

Let’s be real here, this fight isn’t going to happen. The only reason that McGregor fought Mayweather in boxing was due to him being the biggest draw that the UFC had to offer. Also, he’s known for a being a striker and trash talk which helped sell the fight.

Although Khabib can strike, it’s not like he’s known as a knockout artist but rather a wrestler who beats people down on the ground until they quit. The chances of Mayweather vs. Khabib taking place in a boxing ring isn’t likely and there’s a reason Mayweather is such a favorite for this fight.

Televised mascots beware, because WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder just took out one of your own.

Recently, the “Bronze Bomber” appeared on Nacion ESPN to promote his upcoming fight with Tyson Fury. During the appearance, the hosts had Wilder hit a dummy. They then asked him to hit their mascot in either the stomach or face. Wilder chose the face. With one good right-hand, Wilder layed the mascot out to the ground.

Apparently, Wilder didn’t realize there was someone inside the costume. He took to his Instagram to issue out an apology to the person who absorbed the devastating shot. He even invited him to his fight against Fury in December:

“Yea, Anything headlining I didn’t know a “Human Being” was in there is just straight “Click Baiting”
like come on now, I guess the Mascot rolled out there. show so respect! I sincerely apologize to the brave man that was injured (if this is true) I have the up most high respect for him, his participation, willingness and courage. If this is true @nacionespn I personally would like to invite him to my Dec.1 fight. Word Is Bond -CHAMP”
