Jailton Almeida makes quick work of Alexandr Romanov with first-round RNC - UFC 302 Highlights

Jailton Almeida got back into the win column in a big way with a quick finish at UFC 302.

Three months removed from his brutal second-round knockout loss to Curtis Blaydes, ‘Malhadinho’ returned ready to make a statement against another submission specialist — Alexandr Romanov.

As expected, Almeida moved in quickly and took ‘King Kong’ down with ease. From there, it was just a matter of time. After an initial attempt to choke his opponent out, Almeida was able to sneak his arm under Romanov’s chin the second time around, forcing the Moldovan to tap out.

With the victory, Almeida moved to 7-1 inside the Octagon. During his post-fight interview, he called for a fight with former interim UFC heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane when the promotion returns to Paris in September.

Zhilei Zhang lands stunning fifth round knockout over Deontay Wilder in huge win Highlights

Chinese heavyweight favorite, Zhilei Zhang has turned in the most impressive and high-profile victories of his professional boxing career to date — laying waste to former WBC world champion, Deontay Wilder with a monstrous fifth round KO win.

Zhang, a former WBO interim heavyweight championship winner himself, had been sidelined since earlier this year, dropping a majority decision loss to common-foe, Joseph Parker back in March in Riyadh.

As for Wilder, the veteran former WBC world heavyweight titleholder succumbs to strikes for the third time in his illustrious heavyweight career, following a pair of consecutive knockout defeats against former world champion, Tyson Fury in the pair’s distinct trilogy.

Wilder KOed

And dropping his second consecutive defeat following a prior return to winning-ways with a knockout win over Robert Helenius, Tuscaloosa native, Wilder himself suffered a decision loss to Parker last year in Saudi Arabia.

Wilder KOed 2

Linked with a potential retirement tonight with a fourth career loss in his main event clash with Zhang, Wilder was felled in the fifth round of his headliner with the Henan native — who produced a thunderous hook knockdown, leading to a massive knockout victory.

Zhilei Zhang may have put Deontay Wilder out to pasture earlier tonight (Sat., June 1, 2024) at Queensberry vs. Matchroom 5v5 LIVE on DAZN pay-per-view (PPV) from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as the Chinese veteran brutally stopped “Bronze Bomber” with a fifth-round knockout.

Wilder, who has now lost four out of his last five trips to the ring, came into this fight with the idea of retirement already on his mind. That’s never good for any boxer, especially one in the heavyweight division matched up against a proven killer like Zhang. Unfortunately for Wilder, Saturday night didn’t result in the swan song he had hoped.

For the most part, Wilder looked sluggish and didn’t land much of anything as he attempted to score his patented power punches. This allowed Zhang to take control early on and set Wilder up for a finish in the fifth. Zhang connected on a big right hand during an exchange inside that badly hurt “Bronze Bomber.” Wilder was stunned and oddly turned around and started to walk away from the action. Zhang quickly chased him down and scored a final right hand that put a stop to the main event.

Daniel Dubois cashed in during a huge co-main event spot earlier tonight (Sat., June 1, 2024) at Queensberry vs. Matchroom 5v5 LIVE on DAZN pay-per-view (PPV) from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, stopping the previously undefeated Filip Hrgovic with an eighth-round TKO (doctor’s stoppage).

Dubois, who came into this fight a betting underdog against his Croatian counterpart, looked good from the opening bell. He certainly had to keep his composure high because of the heavyweight missiles firing back at him, but he did well to make Hrgovic miss and tire drastically over the first half of the fight.

After Hrgovic emptied his gas tank Dubois was able to take full control of the co-headliner. He did some serious damage through the seventh and eighth rounds, which really started to bust Hrgovic up. The referee checked on the heavyweight contender before the ninth frame and ended up calling a stop to the fight. Hrgovic was bleeding pretty badly from multiple lacerations on his face. It was brutal.

Donald Trump has announced his plans to attend UFC 302 later this evening (Sat., June 1, 2024) live on ESPN+ PPV from inside Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., as the former President of the Unites States will take his usual cageside seat.

Trump, who was just found guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records during the 2016 election, let fans know he’s coming to UFC 302 with an early evening post to Truth Social (shown below). The former President didn’t indicate when he’d be making his walk to the Octagon, but it will still be a nice addition to an event already stacked with star power.

Trump, who is known to attend some of the biggest UFC cards, isn’t going to miss tonight’s event in Newark. UFC 302 is pretty stacked from top-to-bottom including a main event showdown between UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev and future Hall of Famer Dustin Poirier. Not to mention a co-headliner featuring former UFC middleweight king Sean Strickland and Brazilian powerhouse Paulo Costa.

In addition to Trump, New York Jets quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, is also joining the party to witness some live combat action. The future NFL Hall of Famer has already made his walk to the Octagon for UFC 302.

Stick with Mania as we’ll share the moment Trump makes his walk later tonight for UFC 302. It will be interesting to see if the former President gets cheered or booed in New Jersey after his recent conviction.

Stay tuned!

Undefeated pound-for-pound standout Dmitry Bivol looked as sharp as ever earlier today (Sat., June 1, 2024) at Queensberry vs. Matchroom 5v5 LIVE on DAZN pay-per-view (PPV) from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, stopping replacement challenger, Malik Zinad with a blistering sixth-round TKO.

Bivol, who came into this fight with a 22-0 record and the WBA light heavyweight title, was expected to meet undefeated WBC, IBF, and WBO champion, Artur Beterbiev, for the undisputed crown. It was going to be a huge fight on one of the biggest boxing cards of the year. Unfortunately, Beterbiev suffered a ruptured meniscus during camp and was forced to withdraw.

Zinad, who was also 22-0 in his professional career coming into tonight, didn’t really stand a chance in his fight. He was a massive betting underdog and fighting one of the most precise punchers in all of boxing. Remember, Bivol out-struck Canelo Alvarez over the course of 12 rounds just two years ago. The writing was on the wall before this fight even started.

After scoring a crisp knockdown in the first round, Bivol followed his efforts up with a barrage of punches in the sixth round that had Zinad on the ropes. Zinad eventually backpedaled into the corner where Bivol put the finishing touches on another memorable performance.
