There is one title contender who is tired of other fighters acting like Conor McGregor.

And that contender is Brian Ortega, who is slated to challenge Max Holloway for the UFC featherweight title at the upcoming UFC 226 pay-per-view event.

Since the former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion rose to fame by talking some major trash and also backing it up inside the Octagon, there have been many fighters who have tried to clone the actions of the Irishmen.

However, not all fighters can be McGregor. None the less, people are still trying to be him. Ortega recently stated in an interview with MMAJunkie that he’s tired of these people trying to be McGregor.

“There’s only one Conor,” Ortega recently told MMAjunkie. “Everybody who’s tried to be like Conor, you can tell they’re just fronting. You can easily see, you can tell by the way the go in there – you’re just like, ‘Come on. Shut up.’”

“For me, I’m just me,” he said. “That’s what I realized the best thing to be is. When I talk to people, they’re like, especially getting into the sport, (they’re like), ‘Oh, you’ve got to be a character. You’ve got to be this.’ And my coach told – and I don’t know if I can cuss or not – but he goes, ‘F-ck that.’

He’s like, ‘Just be you, bro. You don’t have to lie on the thing. You don’t have to pretend. You don’t have to remember some thing you made up before.’ He goes, ‘Just be you, and you can’t go wrong with being you.’

“So that’s what we did, and I’m happy I stuck to it, man. Because I’m just me. If I ever get pissed off, I’m legitimately pissed off. So far it hasn’t happened.”

UFC 226 is set to take place on Saturday, July 6, 2018, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET while the preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

Former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar managed to get back on track after a devastating knockout loss to Brian Ortega in March.

Seven weeks later, Edgar defeated Cub Swanson a second time, and now “The Answer” wants another shot at featherweight gold.

Edgar has lost twice to former divisional kingpin Jose Aldo but has otherwise cleared out the rest of the division outside of Ortega and Holloway.

“The Answer” made recently his case for the winner of UFC 226’s 145-pound title tilt during this week’s edition of The MMA Hour:

“I still think I’m the guy. S**t, I risked that shot, maybe I shouldn’t have like people said, but I’m going to do it every single time. I still believe I can win that fight (with Ortega). I was doing well in that fight, obviously I got caught and Ortega did a good job of finishing.

“But yeah, I want the winner. I think I deserve it. I’m No. 3. We’ll see what happens.”

The loss to Ortega marked the first time Edgar had ever been knocked out or finished in a fight. At the time, Edgar was already the next in line to fight Holloway, but he took the Ortega fight anyway in a high-risk, low-reward matchup for the former champ.

Do you think Edgar deserves a title shot after winning the Swanson rematch?

Or will “The Answer” have to rack up another win or two to fully erase the Ortega KO?

Brian Ortega is already looking at his next opponent.

Despite the promotion already announcing that the rising contender would be challenging Max Holloway for the UFC featherweight title at the upcoming UFC 226 pay-per-view event, Ortega has his sights set on challenging another UFC champion.

That current UFC champ is Khabib Nurmagomedov, who is fresh off a decision win over Al Iaquinta at the UFC 223 pay-per-view event to win the vacant lightweight title.

If you recall, Ortega beat former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar at the UFC 222 pay-per-view, which secured the opportunity to challenge for the featherweight title.

He is unbeaten in his MMA career and holds wins over the likes of Edgar, Cub Swanson, Renato Moicano, and Clay Guida.

“Not too many people present a good ground game from the bottom,” Ortega said to MMAJunkie. “They survive a little bit, and it’s kind of boring. But not too many people are attacking from the bottom, hurting with elbows. They don’t bring that kind of game because it takes a long time to develop.

Whereas me, I grew up in that situation, where I was always the bottom guy, always getting beat up by these guys. So I had to adapt my game to that.”

“I was curious as to what was going to happen,” Ortega said. It’s on my radar,” he said. “I have a big fight right now, but that one, for sure, it’s on the radar. I have to be successful on July 7, and hopefully, I can make that happen after.”
