UFC featherweight Bryce Mitchell is enjoying his time away from the octagon, and showing off his creative side with a debut rap single.

It’s been a while since Mitchell competed in the Octagon, and it’ll be a two-year layoff by the time he’s scheduled to fight Edson Barboza on March 5. He’s undefeated in his professional MMA career at 14-0 and garnered the attention of the UFC brass during The Ultimate Fighter: 27.

But Mitchell has apparently been focusing on other aspects and hobbies during his downtime away from the octagon. He’s slated to release his debut rap mixtape, entitled “Pasture Fire”, on Wednesday.

Mitchell released a sneak peek of the album with a single called “Darkansas”. You can check out the track below.

Bryce Mitchell Will Return Against Edson Barboza On March 5

Mitchell isn’t the only UFC fighter that has dove into the world of Hip-Hop. Former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley has gotten into the music business, including his single “Let’s Go Big” released just before his boxing debut against Jake Paul.

Mitchell is also joined by Brian Kelleher and Andre Fili as UFC fighters who have started a side gig rapping and making music.

Mitchell shouts out former UFC champion Conor McGregor during the single, and also tells the story of his hometown in Cabot, Arkansas.

The Mitchell vs. Barboza fight is a very important fight for the featherweight division. Barboza is coming off of his most recent loss to Giga Chikadze earlier this year and is looking to get back in the title picture. Mitchell is looking to remain undefeated and move up the featherweight rankings.

In the meantime, looks like Mitchell has quite a side gig to keep him occupied as he gets ready to make his eventual return to the octagon in the spring.

Edson Barboza will look to get back to winning ways against top featherweight prospect Bryce Mitchell on March 5 according to a report from MMA Junkie.

The Brazilian suffered a third-round TKO defeat at the hands of Giga Chikadze last time out. Prior to that, Barboza had been impressive since making the drop down to featherweight. He picked up back-to-back wins over Shane Burgos and Makwan Amirkhani after suffering a very controversial split decision defeat to Dan Ige in his division debut.

Bryce Mitchell Returns After A Long Injury Induced Layoff

‘Thug Nasty’ has been sidelined for more than a year after suffering a hand injury in a career-best win over Andre ‘Touchy’ Fili at UFC Vegas 12 in October 2020.

The 27-year-old spoke with LowKickMMA’s James Lynch back in June about approaching his hand injury with caution, hence his lengthy layoff from fighting.

“It was broken in that (Andre) Fili fight but it’s doing a lot better,” Mitchell said. “I’ve got my full grip strength back and I’m just making sure I don’t punch anything too hard too soon. That’d be a rebreak and that’s why I’m waiting for a little while before I take another fight, but I’m in good shape and I’ve been training and, you know, I could fight right now if I had to. If I got like real bad debt or something in like a week (I could fight) if I had to. But I’m just waiting until my hand heals a little bit better till I go pursue one.

“I don’t think that it will happen again if I take my time to heal it and then I change my punching method,” Mitchell added. “You know, I was throwing as hard as I possibly could. So I probably should do that more accurately next time. If you’re swinging as hard as you can, you need to be a little bit more accurate, so I’ll be safe with it and wait for a little while, till it heals up.

“I don’t think that it’s going to bother me again, but if it does break on the first punch of the next fight, I’m just going to keep fighting like I did last time. If I have to fight with a broke hand, I’m fine with that too, but I hope it don’t do that.”

Who do you think will win on March 5? Edson Barboza or Bryce Mitchell?

Bryce “Thug Nasty” Mitchell is done counting the days waiting to be paired up for his next contest and has assumed the role of rogue self-matchmaker.

When it comes to young UFC prospects, you won’t find many more promising than Bryce Mitchell. Mitchell got his break into the promotion on The Ultimate Fighter: Undefeated in 2018. Although he did not emerge from the tournament as the season’s winner, no one from that cast has experienced the success that Mitchell has had in the UFC thus far.

After winning his official UFC debut against Tyler Diamond on the TUF season finale, he would go on to take home Fight of the Night alongside Bobby Moffett at UFC Fight Night: Thompson vs. Pettis in 2019. In his follow-up performance, Mitchell would snag a bonus all for himself when his hypnotic twister submission got ‘er done against Matt Sayles in 2019.

This made for only the second twister finish in UFC history, and it turned all eyes towards the Arkansasanian’s direction if they weren’t already paying heed.

In his most recent bout, Mitchell defeated Andre Fili via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night: Hall vs. Silva in October of last year. This improved the self-proclaimed thug’s record to 5-0 in the UFC and placed him in the official rankings, where he currently sits at #12.

Bryce Mitchell Makes An Open Challenge

Now that over a full year has elapsed since his most recent victory, the 27-year-old took to Twitter to extend an invitation to anyone willing to help him get back to business.

“Waitin on a fite. Who wants to throw down?” Mitchell asked.

As of this writing, there haven’t been any takers. A couple of names thrown around in the comments section were Dan Hooker, who has strongly hinted at moving down to featherweight, and Arnold Allen. Allen has recently expressed an interest in facing the Korean Zombie.

Some other names worth mentioning who are coming off wins and currently without an opponent are Alex Caceres (#15), Shane Burgos (#14), Movsar Evloev (#13), and Edson Barboza (#10). Mitchell did not limit his open challenge to ranked opponents, though, so the possibilities may be limitless.

MMA News will keep you informed when Bryce Mitchell eventually has a new opponent lined up following this public invitation.

Up next, we have an interesting featherweight fight. The unbeaten prospect Bryce Mitchell faces the toughest test of his career when he takes on Andre Fili at UFC Vegas 12. Who’ll win? Let’s find out…

Round 1: Bryce Mitchell is using his kicks early to maintain range. He shoots in for a takedown. Andre Fili is defending well but ultimately succumbs to the grappling pressure. ‘Touchy’ is trying to work his way back up but Mitchell drags him back down and moves into the mount. Fili again squirms out of a tough spot before being dragged back down. Both men clearly have immense grappling ability – this should be a fun fight. Another scramble and Fili is back to his feet but Mitchell switches to the back and drags the fight back down. He moves into full mount. Mitchell postures up and starts dropping straight shots. Fili uses the space to explode out of the position. Mitchell tries to lock up a triangle choke but falls to his back and Fili is finally able to completely get back to his feet. Unfortunately for ‘Touchy’, the fight doesn’t stay there for long. Mitchell lands a punch upstairs before completing a takedown and riding out round one in top position.

Round 2: Mitchell opens up with two huge left hands at the start of round one. He shoots for a takedown but Fili manages to avoid it and separate. Another big punch from Mitchell. Fili doesn’t seem at all fazed by this. ‘Touchy’ lands a sharp knee and begins pouring it on. Mitchell lands a right hand before shooting in for the takedown. The fight is against the fence but Fili again manages to avoid being taken to the mat. The featherweight veteran is enjoying a much better round, he’s putting his hands together and defending takedowns. Three minutes into round two Mitchell finally secures the takedown he’s been working so hard for. ‘Thug Nasty’ is in side control and is working for the von flue choke – it looks tight but Fili manages to escape. A huge explosion from Fili at the round of round two brings the fight back to the feet. Mitchell’s mouthpiece goes flying out of his mouth. A clash sees the 26-year-old on his back as Fili tries to land ground and pound before the horn sounds.

Round 3: Mitchell secures a takedown about 30 seconds into the final round – this could be huge. ‘Thug Nasty’ seems content to sit in the guard and land short shots whenever he can. Fili is scrambling and eventually get back to his feet but is immediately dragged back down. Once there Fili explodes again and ends up in top position. He land a shot on ground before standing up. Mitchell scores with his hands before again dragging ‘Touchy’ to the mat. ‘Thug Nasty’ is trying to move into side control, he’s landing elbows in the process. Fili continues to space on the ground – he’s clearly talented in this area. He’s trying for submission but the clock is ticking down and we are into the final 30 seconds. Fili stands up with 10 seconds left on the clock but he eats a straight shot and is taken down once again as the buzzer sounds to end round three and this fight.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Bryce Mitchell def. Andre Fili via unanimous decision
